Hi guys,

I'm AvolA (ingame nick: "Veloc1ta") and fairly new to SIM racing. I've done some racing, but that was just GT1, 2, 3 and 4 (and some other ******, not to be mentioned titles :P). PCARS2 was on sale in the Playstation store, so i went ahead and buy it. Dusted off an old Thrustmaster T80 and home-built a "rig".

So, now i've done some careermode first, to get the feeling with the game. Eventually, when i got the hang of it, i made my way to the Online Lobby's. Here i got placed back on earth with my both 2 feet, getting passed by on all sides, getting launched in first corners by rockets from behind etc. I was having a blast and got better and better (still low-average :P). This got me wondering, is there more than just Online Lobby racing in PCARS2? Are there leagues for noobs? So for instance: GT3, <20 laps and with some driving aids?

If not, can i create one myself? Are there people interested or is it all just pro's here and am i in the wrong community :P You can be honest, i'm a big guy.

Thanks alot for the read, and i'm sure i will find you in the lobby's some times (if you're there, obviously).

Hey AvolA. In terms of casual, non-structured online leagues, I don't know that there are any. At least none that I've found. I'd love to be wrong, and please, someone point it out if I am. I don't have the consistent schedule to run in a structured league. I simply can't commit a lot of specific time to gaming and none of the leagues I've found jive with the times I know I'd have. Simply put, I haven't found any casual leagues that fit my time, or lack thereof.

Having said that, try the online league forum. SNAIL may be what you could try, or look at others on there. It wouldn't work for my schedule, but it might fit yours. Typically, I think leagues (at least ones I've been in before) do a good job of policing the lobby and keeping the racing clean, hard and fair. And they are usually full of good, friendly, mature racers willing to help, and usually give a good representation of the sim-racing community. Community being the key word.

If you can't find anything that fits your time, like me, you'll just have to do your best at creating lobbies or wading through the public lobbies hoping to avoid the rammers and trolls as much as possible. I've had way more fun and rewarding races in public lobbies than frustrating races. It's just that the frustrating ones might stick in your mind longer because you wonder what hole some of these people crawled out of.

Hi @AvolA

is there more than just Online Lobby racing in PCARS2? Are there leagues for noobs?
what @fumanchu11 says really. The online section is HERE. It's certainly not as active as GT but there's certainly still stuff going on. If you find a casual race format you like look out for the host again.

If not, can i create one myself?
You could certainly have a go and see if you can generate some interest. Now might be a good time actually since with the sale of PC2 and the virus restrictions there are more potential players.

or is it all just pro's here and am i in the wrong community
Oh we're all quite friendly over here, always ready to help a convert to PC2 out when we can. :)

Thanks for the replies! @IfAndOr , ill definetely check out the online section, thanks.

Unfortunately, i wrecked my T80 Thrustmaster wheel yesterday :( For the past couple of days it had the weird intention of jerking to the left all of the sudden (without me doing anything), as you can see here at 2:19

Yesterday, i was in a very close 1v1 online race on Monza, when this happened to me in the fifth lap, throwing away any chances i had on a victory. This pissed me off so much, that i snapped the steering wheel through his left lock. Stuff had broken off, so i dumped the wheel. I did some research and ordered a T150RS Pro with the T3PA pedals (regular T80 pedals are crap). I'm fairly new to the SIM racing world, so don't want to buy a really expensive wheel.

Ahwell, that's my little update :P Hopefully it gets shipped to me soon so i can race again! Thanks for reading ;)

Hahaha i was not planning to demolish this one. Ill beat the wife whenever i feel frustrated.

(j/k obv..)

If there's anyone playing PCARS2 with T150, please share your wheel settings. Thanks in advance. Ill try to fiddle around with it, this weekend.

The rabbit hole opens

Joking aside mate, there's not much point because every car & every track feels completely different so you'll probably find you have to keep tweaking to get the best feeling or just accept that this game is not a one size fits all.

Example here is I can take a Porsche gt3 to Imola & have a very direct ffb setup (oversteer, understeer, weight distribution, elevation changes, road bumps & curbs) all feel great.

Take that same setting to Mugello & all of a sudden the road feels/bumps are exaggerated massively causing me to turn down the FX & my direct input I had with Imola now feels a little more spongy.

And these 2x tracks aren't that far away from either end of the scale, jump on the nordschleife & it becomes a whole new ballgame.

Now add the factor of changing cars & setups then throw weather & track temperatures into the mix & you'll start to see how deep this rabbit hole goes.

Obviously you can accept this or go chasing the unobtainable (the perfect ffb settings)

Thanks for your honest and thorough reply. Ive tested some settings for GT3 and found myself going atleast a whole second faster in my favorite car in my favorite tracks, so thats positive.

I never thought that ffb would be this great of an addition to the game play. It makes the handling of a car so much more predictable. I love it!

For all the other factors like weather, Tire pressure etc, i Will dive into the rabbithole and find out. Already found some great tips about Tire pressure here on this forum.:gtpflag:

Very true....I have the T-150

Switched to stable car set-ups as of yesterday and in general cars seem to be more stable especially in corners. Still slowly experimenting with general settings and even general car tuning. I think this is a game that there is a wide range of things to learn to maximize enjoyment. Somedays - I could almost swear that if have not played for a week or more that it does not drive the same as last time.

One thing I got caught out on when I first got the game was I'd set the track options to (current date) so it follows real life seasons (country pending) & like you returned to the game after a brief pause & thought "why does this all feel different" not realising that the in game calendar had changed seasons, which of course affected tyre temperatures.

Now I keep it on track default, for optimum performance reasons.

Unless I want to change it to have a little fun in the winter or snow but then I'm aware of it & can change the appropriate settings to match.

I usually just use spring or summer as season settings - so thats not really issue.

I believe using stable default settings then making some other adjustments is some positive steps in the right direction. Reducing fuel load to just what is needed. Reducing break duct openings, radiator opening to get a little more speed etc. Also I believe for me 50/50 or close to it front / rear brakes work better. Possibly my cheap T-150 wheel is getting old and does not fully engage. Not to mention it recongines accelerator as clutch and clutch as accelerator. However that is not an issue as thankfully the makers of PC let you re-assign the pedals. So kind of sucks now on the few times that do want to play GTS or asseta corosa since you are unable to reassign pedals. As frusting as it can be sometimes with with all settings that are available, that is one of the great things about Project Cars.

@AvolA

Welcome to the forums :-)

I dont have much time to commit to a league eather. I mostly just race vs the AI.

But if you find the right AI difficulty, and learn to adjust a bit to how the AI behave you can have some pretty good races with the AI too.

I use these settings on Logitech G29

RAW
Gain 100
Volume 38
Tone 38
FX 4
Menu 0.40

Not sure how they would work on your wheel, but might be worth a try, and maybe adjust from there.

But like others say, it can vary a lot depeding on wich type of car and track you are driving.

Also wanted to say. You should try out Assetto Corsa with your new wheel. IMO its far ahead of anything else on Console regarding the FFB.

Not to take anything away from Pcars 2 its a very good game, just not as good as Assetto with the FFB.

Yes there are a handful of needless rammers out there. Yesterday I was in a 7 car grid at Bannochbrae not doing very well when about 3 laps in a couple of cars ahead of me crashed and I went past them. Not more than 10 seconds later they both just came up and smashed me off the road on purpose. It's those kind of players that aren't needed. I didn't take note of their profiles unfortunately.

I really don't understand why there aren't a lot more higher-level lobbies being made, and with full damage, diving aids off, etc. There are a lot of good, clean, fun racers out there. And I'd think bumping up those numbers would help draw us to each other. Cause, man, when you find a good room, it's great fun. But the lobbies seem to be dominated by U100 wreckfests.

Nobody's perfect and accidents will happen. Hell, I made a mistake yesterday at Red Bull Ring. I went for, in hindsight, an ambitious pass for the lead, and the front didn't plant as well as I had hoped. I pushed wide, made slight contact, but that pushed us both out into the sandtrap. I felt like a jerk. Then in the next lobby at Monza, I had basically the same thing happen to me. It was an F or E-level lobby, I think. And half the field wrecked into each other on lap one. I joined at the end of qualifying. So started last (11th, I think). And by the end of lap one, I was up to 6th just by driving around everyones' wrecks.

Anyway, all that to say I certainly wish we'd collectively make lobbies that would help weed out the rammers and those who haven't figured out what that center pedal does. I've tried to and haven't had any luck drawing anyone to a lobby I create. So I end up wasting big chunks of time and get no racing in.

I also noticed that when you're in the lobby there's a lot of races I'd like to join but seems like I'm having to wait almost the whole race for the next one by which time the track might have changed from the one I wanted. And quite a few times I've joined then spectated to wait for my race session to start only to be disconnected or kicked from the session. Why is that? I'd love to do some online stuff but the waiting times are too much sometimes. This will probably have been happening since the game came out but it's a bit annoying. It's like it forces you to just do customr against AI.

There's a delay in what you see, what I've been doing is only attempt to join if they're on a practice session with plenty of time left before the race or a practice session with qualifying before a race.

No good jumping onto a qualifying session with only 5 minutes left because chances are the race will be already underway or at least loading.

Now I only attempt to join if if there's over 5 minutes left before the race session.

I dunno what do you expect from lobbies, those are not league or something. It is the same in GT sport for example, even though there much more people, the whole picture isn't different at all. Ya all saw just recent news on serious events, and still want lobbies to be clean:).

Have you got all of the DLC? If you haven't got what the host picks you will be disconnected when the track begins to load.

Online could really do with the ability to name rooms on console. I often run a couple of lobbies each week and I'd like to put "Fun but clean short races on short tracks in slower cars" but I can't, so it's difficult to attract drivers sometimes since it's not the popular GT3/4.

No I've got all the tracks that I attempt to join. I generally try to join Monza or Imola but sometimes get kicked for no apparent reason.

I suppose so, I've got good internet 40mb+ d/l 18mb u/l

I'll try that and see if it helps.
