Invasive Toyota C4C ad

You have firefox but no adblocker? I thought that was the first add-on everyone got.

Also, does this still happen after you refresh the page, sometimes a problem in the code will cause random problems like this.

Interestingly enough I just came to post something similar...

I've noticed more and more invasive ads on this site recently. The pop-overs being the absolute worst. Now out of respect for this community I have whitelisted this site on adblock. And occasionally I'll click an ad.

But between the pop-over ads with no close box on them which block the news and forums buttons, and then the full-screen ad that comes up half the time when I'm trying to visit a page, requiring me to click another link to redirect back to the page I wanted, I've been really considering turning ad-block back on for this site.

But the thing is, I've always been under the impression that ad-block hurts the site owners because it deprives them of ad revenue... but here is Jordan saying to use ad-block???? Seriously?

How about a few less invasive ads?

There's a Toyota Cash for Clunkers ad that comes down over the forum. It doesnt' block much, but it's incredibly irritating.

That's very strange - it looks like a 160x600 banner is appearing where a 728x90 image should. Refreshing the page should, of course, take care of that, but I will try to figure out why it happened in the first place.

The unfortunate reality is that I've had to approve more invasive ads due to the collapse of the online ad industry. The economy has forced companies to reduce their advertising budgets, launching online ad networks in a "race to the bottom" on pricing. As a result, I have seen ad revenue from my "top" network drop, literally, to less than $1 per day despite a two-fold increase in traffic. To make matters worse, advertisers are focusing more on targeting, paying only for United States visitors (a considerable majority of GTPlanet's traffic comes from Europe). As I'm sure you can understand, it's a very uncomfortable situation to be in. Regardless, an intrusive ad that cannot be closed with one click is unacceptable. Screenshots of such banners would be very helpful.

Here is the ad without a close button that I was talking about...

I got that one too a minute ago, but it just disappeared without me having to do anything. Very odd, though I was browsing the game guides at the time.

Considering I'm premium, it's more odd than I thought when I saw it.

Getting more un-closeable ads, very annoying. :/

Also sucks that we can't view this page from smart-phones because all the javascript ads bung it up and lock the page up, any way to not show ads on mobile devices?

Absolutely - just head to mobile.gtplanet.net.
