What's the song they used in that video? It's pretty cool.
The video's cool, too. Very original, unlike most other skate videos which all eventually run together.

That's really cool. And the song title and artist are listed in the sidebar of the vid.

That is insanely cool !...

They did exaggerate the shadows in a couple of seconds and leave 'em out in others - Still.. Maximum points for creativity.. Awesome work....

i don't really like the idea of those. afterall, don't we use stuff like that to show off not hide?

They need to somehow put some back to the future hover boards in place of the skate boards.

Heh, i'm surprised nobody thought of this before. It wasn't quite as cool as i thought it would be, but interesting to watch all the same :)

Very nice clip, now just a matter of time untill a invisible skateboard will be reality. :)

Ranks right up there with the Starwars fan film recreation of the "top of the cliff sword fight", from The Princess Bride.

Woah.. blast from the past. Brains and Steel, it was called. You're actually missing out, though.. the original, uncompressed version is MUCH better, you can actually see the extra work he put into it, like the cliff itself.. looked kinda crappy when it was put online.

I should tell him to remaster it, maybe "Special Editionalize" it or something, put it back up. Clay, the "man in black", is a good friend of mine. I was helping his mother-in-law with her computer yesterday. He and I actually did a short fight video one time, but it never made it online. Too cheesy.. hehe. We swapped roles on that one, too.. I did all of the lightsabers and sound editing, he did the CGI. Usually we work the other way 'round.

But anyway, going back to the topic vid.. hehe. Very interesting. I'm kind of surprised I've never thought of it before. I've done tons of keying stuff like that, including removing unwanted objects from a shot, but it's never occurred to me to remove a normal object and see what it looks like.

Emad - to answer your question about the shadow. They basically "paint" it out. In addition to the normal footage with the skaters, they also have a blank plate. Approximated camera motion, but without the skater in the scene. They use that to basically paint over the top of the skateboard, replacing it with an image of what's behind it (in most cases, the ground). They also do the same with the shadow of the board, replacing it with an image of bare ground. Then they most likely went in and hand-painted the missing shadows of the skater's feet, done in such a way as to match up with the real shadows that they were casting.

Wouldn't surprised me if they used some CGI here and there, too. Matching backgrounds on a handheld camera is a nightmare, so for some of the shots, like when they were grinding down the handrail on the stairs, they might have put in a CGI handrail instead of trying to match up the background plate.

I saw a few problem spots here and there, but on the whole, it was pretty neat. :) Probably looks better in high-res anyway, and a lot of those problems might go away if I saw it in the original format.
