I'm glad I didn't make the list. I was in trouble in the beginning last year. I never knew all about network like GTP. But now I have the hang of it.

I was in a huge amount of trouble a year or two back, had to keep off for the summer to get my brain in check. Worked for the most part, I suggest it for people getting in hot water.

I don't really see how people get themselves into that position in the first place, I mean, it's not like the rules of the site are ambiguous and designed to catch people out.

I think in some peoples cases, they know there are rules for the site but they simply don't care. I guess because with the site being free and easy to join and the anonymity of the internet, some people think they can act how they want at all times and get away with it. Accept, in the corner of the internet, they don't get away with it as such.

It's an odd mentality anyway. :boggled:

My problem was a ridiculous chain of acute failures to utilize common sense. Since then, if I'm having doubts about the quality of a post, I just abandon it there.

One in particular was the "How Often Do YOU Masticate" Which was a really, really poorly conceived idea from the get-go, and an infraction I could have avoided if I actually stopped and THOUGHT for a moment.

Ah at first i though you just ban the user, not it's IP...because so many people were the same.

I'm glad i did'nt make it to the list, cause i was in trouble recently...
Well, good to know :gtplanet: bans people by IP! :D

However what about Dynamic IPs?

I should have been on that list, at least for a temporary ban. I had some issues to deal with when I was "sick". The EMDR therapy works perfectly. 💡

You're obviously not trying hard enough. ;)
Oh, wait. That's a good thing. 👍

hehe...

If we tried to pull some of the stuff we got away with, back in the days, I would be.. But that was then, lot of water under the bridge (And quite a bit bigger boat these days)

Twas good fun though 👍

I'm sorry for revive this thread, I've seen "the black list" and some users have returned with a new name after being banned but they were banned again (I guess based on IP address), so I wonder (not only in this forum, in all forums in general) How much information can know administrators/moderators about users? I mean IP address, browser, minutes online, visits to the forum... just curious, thanks.

I'm not mod but I used to admin a website, there is a whole log about everyone who gets into the web page, this log contains a lot of stuff like IP,OS,browser, time in the site,(recently from where they were redirected),and so on,this logs are maintain in the host place until is filled up,so technically this logs will last forever(or at least until we reach the monolith),In any case the only information that goes to the web site server is the basic log of the client, private info and other kind of personal data is not read because web browsers are programmed to just send vital info that server request.

If you feel a bit worried about your info just relax, personal info is only hold by the browser(in some cases in the google account)but they are never transmitted to host(unless its a bot or a virus).

VBulletin has an option to track statistics like time spent online, threads clicked etc but whether it's used here is another thing. IP tripwires I think are in every forum - some more advanced than others. Basically there is a few little 'traps' set up and if something fishy occurs the alarm bells ring and a mod (SH by my experience) investigates.

You'll forgive me if I don't delve too far into our little secrets...

But, we only have whatever information you give. Your IP address (or at least the IP address you're using) is given out by your computer - if it weren't, you wouldn't receive any information - but everything else is physically given to us by you. If you don't tell us, we don't know.

The biggest clue we have with returning members is "modus operandi" ("MO"). Basically, how they behave. People may not realise it, but they have unique posting styles which are almost as good as fingerprints. It's behaviour that tips us off to check other details. Sometimes people try their hardest to change how they behave to fool us - this is good, because if they've been banned for how they behave, changing their behaviour so they won't be banned means they're now behaving as we would expect a member to, moderating themselves so we don't have to! Usually the fingerprint will be left somewhere eventually - if it does, we win. If it doesn't, we win.

But seriously. I wouldn't be able to tell a posting style from anyone else's. Only if Famine got banned(very unlikely) and came back I would be able to tell then. Because he posts in indigo.

if it does, we win. If it doesn't, we win.

Almost seems too easy, the

always wins.
