Ipod Touch Competitors

Not much. Other iPods for music, but no other all round media player, especially with the app store.

Heh, this is a subject that has always interested me. The only explanation I find reasonable is that Android (etc.) hardware makers rely heavily on carrier subsidies for their hardware, while Apple can leverage its enormous supply chain advantage to create the iPod touch with reasonable margins. You have to remember that the iPod touch, as a category, is essentially a smartphone without a few antennas, yet smartphones cost upwards of $600 unsubsidized while the touch costs $200. So it's a big ask to get other hardware manufacturers to start making iPod touch competitors when they're having enough trouble keeping up with profits per device on phones.

I've been looking at the Archos range, the 701 Internet tablet as a replacement for the iPod, and the G9 101 as a replacement for the iPad 2. Both are quick, especially the G9 range, and the latter runs the nVidia Tegra chipset, at 1.2Ghz for the basic model and 1.5GHz for the Turbo model. Gen9 10.1 tablet.

The only thing that ever came remotely close to the Touch was the Zune, and even that flopped. Apple has a monopoly over the MP3 market right now.

The thing is an iPod touch you rationally can make a phone because there's apps like Skype or magic jack that allow you to make calls threw wifi and other apps like whatsapp that you can text for free on. Than again you can check eBay or craiglist and buy last years model iPhone with no contract for the same price.

But they're cheaper.

User experience is often more important than price for things like this. But yes if price is a huge concern... but you can get an iPod touch from woot for under 200 dollars on a regular basis.

HP touchpad.

Mine is in repair after the USB controller fried.

iPod touch = 3.5" screen

HP Touchpad = 9.7" screen.

Let alone finding one to buy at this point, though 2nd hand I'm not sure where the prices are sitting at now.

When i needed an MP3 player i had 2 options Zune 80GB or 160GB Ipod classic.

I went to the zune 80GB.
It had Wifi sync, radio larger screen for video playback.

We're not talking about the iPod Classic, we're talking about the iPod Touch vs. the world. The iPod Touch totally trumps the Zune. Multitasking is the key.

I know we are talking about the ipod touch.

Just look at the specs of the ipod touch and other mp3/4 players.

The new Samsung Galaxy Player is made as a competitor to the iPod Touch.

It's just as fast, runs on android gingerbread, has a 5MP camera, and better battery life.

It also comes in 2 versions, 4 and 5 inch screens.

It's a true competitor.

Well a 5MP camera is nice because the ipod's camera is just 🤬. From what i'v read and heared of corse.

The number of megapixels is bad, so you can't zoom in that much, but the resolution's pretty good. The 720p video is really good too. My avatar picture I took with the iPod Touch I'm writing this on.

Well it isn't that bad.

Well there is the Samsung Galaxy Player or the Walkman Z (It's a full blown android pmp)

The walkman z isn't out yet but its got some really nice specs. It has a 4.3 inch screen, dual core processor, FM radio, and you have HDMI out.

The galaxy player is pretty nice as well.

If you mean the picture then no, no it isn't. As long as you don't make it huge then you'll be fine. I use it to take pictures of nice cars on the road because it pulls up so fast.

The iPod's Camera sometimes works good in certian Lighting and weather conditions.

Here's a random picture I took when I went to take a walk outside. The weather was really foggy at the time I took the Picture.

The only thing remotely close to the iPod Touch would be the Zune HD, which was actually pretty fantastic. But like all the other Zunes, it didn't sell so Microsoft had to kill it off. :(

The Zune is a mp3 player.

Also i'v made a club, its called the tech club if anyone wants to join.

The iPod is an mp3 player, too. Unless you're implying that the Zune HD only plays mp3s, which would be wrong.

The only notable difference between the iPod Touch and the Zune HD is that the iPod Touch has a camera, and has 3rd party apps.

The Zune HD can run apps, but Microsoft idiotically never gave developers an outlet to release apps for it. Thus the small number of apps available for the Zune HD are Microsoft-published.
