I've gotten between 146 and 160, It's just a bunch of scientists fulminating over who's intelligent or not.

My .03 (inflation!!1!)

Why put so much faith ( :dopey: ) into the accuracy of a professional test Famine? Isn't the correlation coefficient between IQ tests and academic performance approximately .5?

I don't - I was refuting the statement that it's not possible to score over 160 in an accurate IQ test, because I did.

I understand that... I just wanted to know whether or not you believe some of the tests are indeed accurate.

The problem is what people think "IQ" represents. A high IQ doesn't necessarily mean a smart or potentially successful person - just one who finds certain concepts easy to grasp.

Take me, for example. My IQ is quite high. But I'm also legendarily lazy and have an exceedingly short atten... hey look! A tree shaped like a walrus! Cool!

My brain - as with many high-scorers in IQ tests - is one which finds spatial orientation exceptionally easy to cope with and I'm almost obsessively interested in things I find interesting, but I get bored VERY easily indeed and so, although I've got a pair of degrees to wave around, people with much lower IQs than mine did better on both courses. I've not got my degrees because I've got a high IQ - I've got my degrees AND a high IQ. In fact, if my IQ were lower, I may have done better...

I'm the same way, though, I don't have the degrees yet.

I think this is something that people really don't understand very well. A high IQ does not = success. Especially given that the IQ tests mainly test things like pattern recognition, and spacial concepts.

I was also tested in early grade school and I did well. I have trouble concentrating on things I don't find particularly interesting - and that's something that IQ tests don't take into account, how much you're interested.

I've known quite a few people who come off as brilliant because they find EVERYTHING interesting and have studied a wide variety of topics and know them all fairly well. I, on the otherhand, avoided certain subjects as much as possible - and got some low marks in school as a result.

Another thing that IQ tests don't take into account is memory. My memory is pretty bad, so if I spend time learning something I might forget... wait... what was I talking about? People with highly detailed memories on the otherhand only need to learn things once and can often pick them up faster because of their memory.

It has been my experience that people are more limited by their own willpower than anything else. I've seen fairly unintelligent people do very well due to dilligence and hard work. I've seen VERY intelligent people fail miserably due to ambivalence (I'm also bad at spelling, I don't know if I got that word right... but I might as well not look it up because I won't remember later anyway).

wow, that does seem alot lower than i would expect... i mean, thats not exactly much of a correlation at all....As for the comment you made famine, i seem to have the same problem; im not pretendint my IQ is exceptionally high, 140 on this test, prob 125ish in real life; but i love puzzles ect, logical thinking, thats me...but the second i have to do something that bores me, i cant seem to concerntrate.. Id like to see a correlation between attention span and IQ :dopey: Would be interesting to see.

I'm very logical but I have trouble studying because it seems I can find the answers only by logical thinking and it works except for things that are known by heart that's why I sucked at history and that I have very high grade in maths.

got to say its really odd how just about everyone on here is way above average.

oh after some reading in my local newly built library (read as stinks of paint), the 'official' iq test in the UK is the Cattell "B" test, which has a ceiling of 161, although different iq tests are used worldwide and across the internet some would give einstein an iq of 160 others anywhere upto 232. many tests are reconfigered to force an average of 100, this can cause people retaking a test they did a few weeks earlier and discovering that their iq has suddenly moved across the range.

also the use of time limits can cause even more problems.

conclusion - all iq tests are BS into a official world wide standard is used.

It fits the demographic, I'm afraid.

Gamers tend to be above average for their age group. Computer games train you in spatial awareness and hand-eye coordination and force quick decision-making (essential on a timed IQ test).

If i didn't play GT4 I'd be clinically retarded!

I logged each questions' rating for how many points they're worth, and each one is different. Question values range from 2-9 points in value, so if you miss even one or two questions, your answer could be seriously impacted.

Also, I did the test giving all the correct answers, first, I did the test in about 10 minutes. With all the correct answers it gave me a score of 130.

Then, I gave the exact same answers one right after another and clicked proceed right away-- awarding me with a score of 173.

Extremely flawed, to say the least.

It would seem that IQ average on GTP Forums is much higher than the average population.... Just check the poll results

I wonder if these tests are supposed to make everybody feel good about themselves; nobody seems to have got a low score! :trouble:

Right around the point he read that signatures are supposed to be 6 lines or less...

Yes, and gamers tend to exhibit ADD in one way or another. Over-stimulated by VR, under-stimulated by Real Life.

Could have scored higher, but I just got off work and have been up for almost 20 hours.

Congratulations!
Your general IQ score is 143.

A person whose IQ score falls in the range of 129-143 is considered to be “highly intelligent”.

Meh…

Dito! 👍

Btw, I knew someone like Young Warrior was going to vote 170+. :dunce:

OMG that guy is pathetic, everything he does is better than everyone else or in the top class ect. There was a few posts about Go-Karting in a thread a while back and he came in saying he's been karting a few times and he beat some proper racers and they said he's got talent. I said how can you go as fast as proper racers in a kart when you body build and weigh a good couple of stone more than them, he never answered, then in the golf thread in the sports secion he's said he's beaten everone he's ever played at golf. Everything he says he's done he's been brilliant at, I'd love to meat the guy just so I can see what he's really like.

With the karting thing I used to be skinny and never did any weightlifting. In golf I played against my parents and friends.

The IQ test thing I couldnt be bothered to finish and I wanted to see what everyone else got so I just ticked 170. Usually I get around 140.

How can I see what everyone else got?

Most IQ tests are just B-s*** anyway.

I don't mean to sound rude, but it just seems everything you post on here you're superb at, I don't buy it. I like people to know where they stand, thats just how I view it all, exaggeration is one thing but I haven't seen you say you're less than good at anything and you've talked about doing a lot of things on this site. Like I said, I'm not trying so sound rude, thats just how it comes across to me and I think others on here, it's not something I'm going go on about though.

So why didn't you just tick 140 then? :dunce:

Im poo compared to most people on this site when it comes to OLR. Im a group 3 racer. Bottom half group 3 racer. Im also bad with certain aspects of life. Like Ive recently noticed that I view woman as objects of desire rather than being equal to man. I blame the media. And im crap at rugby and hockey. Im ok at football but only as a workhorse. I dont know all of the alphabet or all of my times table.

Some big relevations there. 10 year olds know theyre alphabet.
