Point 3 will depend on different people. I think if you just want to have a good race and not care about irating don't worry about it. :)

I love point 3! It has saved me so many times from accidents. I don't give up positions but when I see some moron weaving behind me and almost about to hit me on braking, I will take the outside of the corner slowly and let him pass, eventually these people crash into a wall and disconnect :dopey:

Edit: People who are using t500rs pedals, open them up and remove the latches and remove all of the black sludge! (with a cotton swab and paper towel), pick up some lubricant from a store (I used white lithium lubricant) and cover it well, take a cotton swab and gently brush it against the torsion spring to get the excess off.

The pedal movement has gotten smoother then it was before, and it no longer feels "spongy".

hows everyone doing in their championships?

I got the time series one no.1

Nice Job! I was able to move into first in my HPD div. 5 championship but only by 8 points. I had my best and most disappointing HPD race of the season tonight all in one race lol. I scored 86 points in a race earlier in the week so I knew I had to score more than that at least to gain anymore points and I was 6 points down in 2nd so needed 6 points at least to tie.

I started in 2nd by gaining a little more time in qualifying since the beginning of the week. The guy in 1st blinked out right as we went green so I stalled a little cause its a rolling start and if I was in front of him went we went green I could have got a black flag. He got a good jump and pulled about a second a lap on me for the first 4 laps. Then going into the 5th lap he ran off course and crashed giving me the lead. After a couple laps the 2nd place guy spun out. I had about a 2.5 lead on the next 2nd place guy and was maintaining that but lost some time getting past a gt car and he closed it down within a second. By then with the back straight being so long at road atlanta and the down force so high on these cars when you draft someone you can make up lots of time on the straight. He got up to my rear bumper and we had a battle for a few laps. He would try and make a pass, but I would always set it up to where before we got to the next corner he would have to always go around the outside if he wanted to pass me. I was hoping after a couple of those moves that he would start to get frustrated and go wide trying an outside pass. He got a run on me down the front straight and stuck his nose under going into turn 1. We came up to turn 2 and I was on the outside and had to give way or we both would have crashed.

I was able to hold onto the lead from lap 5 to until about 3 to go, but after he got by me and I ran wide he pulled about 2.0 on me when he got by. There wasn't enough laps left for me to try and run him down at that point :(. I got a couple of 2nd's and 3rd's through out the season, but that was the first race I lead laps and was close to winning. It would have been my first win in the HPD and it was my last race of the season most likely so that would have made it even better. I was able to bring home 2nd, scoring 100 points my highest point score in a race in the HPD this season.

I say it was my best race cause I scored the most points in a single race and more importantly when it counted the most for the championship and I was really close to a win. I am a little disappointed though cause I really wanted to win and should have won.

I scored enough points to put me in the lead, but still couple days left and the 2nd place guy crashed out of his race scoring only 14 points so I'm hoping he crashes out again if he races :sly:. If not it wouldn't take much to score more than the 14 points he scored before and I'm only 8 points in the lead so I'm hoping nobody else races lol.

Nail bitter!

But 14 points? Doesn't that just mean he could sit in pit lane and wait for a few people to crash out like always and thus get it?

cheer left!

PRetty proud, top 40 in all skip drivers, I think I was 38th or something? I have 1 race left in me too so top 30 I think. :D

But I don't think I will drive the Skip anymore..not sure...I really wanted the MP4 this season :(

I think many people did. I know there's a lot of following of the Cadi. But why do we have to wait till after the bloody cadi when the MP4 was announced before it. Or, at least I heard of the news of the MP4 much earlier than the Cadi.

Mp4 is probably going to come during week 8.

Probably because of the lump sum of cash Cadillac paid iRacing to 'advertise' their new race car?

Ah, well didn't know that bit. Although, for the people that will race the car on iRacing, lets hope they didn't just throw it together so they could get it out in time.

Grats swift on time trial division champion

I was only able to star mazda for 6 weeks so wasnt in it for points. I had somemore good finishes and got into a higher split. Driving was quite a bit better which allowed me to focus on hitting my PB

I do love watkins glen. Got in 5 races so far this week :)

Well, I'm currently 10 points behind 1st place on my div, good news is that the session that guy normally is up and running and he's not in it. So all I need is a good SOF race to score 97 points or better and I'll get the lead back, bad news it's easier said than done!

My advice with the Legends? Start from the pits! Top 5 finish every time guaranteed! 0 incidents and +iRating every time!
The first lap is always a massive pile up going into T1, so by the time you are there the idiots are arrested on the pits or have quit already, then comes the idiotic moves and pretty soon you'll find yourself on the top 5 with no SR hits and big iR gains because you've made so many spots!

Thanks for that tip Jav. I am getting 5th or better every time now. My SR and Oval iRating is slowly rising. Much appreciated my friend, Vince

Just had a race to secure third in division 3 (forty first overall), I think. I was locked in a three-way tie for third before the race with fourth in a very good position to swoop in and bump all of us down (because he hadn't raced at all this week and was only 15 points behind).

Before by jstretch87, on Flickr

I waited for a high SOF race before making my last attempt of pull ahead (second race of the week for me). I was surprised to see the fourth place points holder (Luke) in the race, directly ahead of me on the grid. This was the race that could determine third in the division. Fortunately for me, Luke jumped the start....
Now I'm sitting 9 points ahead of the tie for forth and 24 points ahead of fifth.

The two tied for fourth have both raced twice this week, so they probably won't race again for fear of dropping their average for this week. Luke, in fifth, had also raced twice but has nothing to lose so he will probably race in the next race, which is pretty much the last high SOF race of the week.

After by jstretch87, on Flickr

I didn't understand how the points system works for most of the season, hence the high number of races I did compared to most others, so some of my weekly averages are pretty low. Had I known from the beginning I might have been able to challenge for second place. They guy in first place is out of my league though.

I planned on running the skip again but since Derek sponsored the Jav's GTPlanet Cadi series I'm going to only race the Cadi next season. 👍

I'm like you Nastradamus, I didn't understand how the "points game" worked until 5th race into the season, I also switched my race night from Wednesday to Sunday night which moved me from 1800-2000 SOF races to 2700-3000 SOF races. If I would have taken advantage of switching these two things earlier I'd be in a better position right now.

I'm currently 5th or 6th in Division 2 and 15th overall in the Mustang Championship. I was hoping for a top twenty-something finish from my first full season championship, so I'm pretty psyched even if I stay where I am, of course many of the guys that are 20 points ahead and behind me will all be racing tonight too, so it should be some interesting racing. We're at Spa too...that place is so hard to stay consistent at.

How are divisions chosen for drivers? Will I theoretically stay in Div 2 next season or possibly move up to Div 1?

Glad to hear of a lot of success stories from the GTP Forum group.

Congrats to all the GTP guys getting strong results in their divisions 👍
I was mainly just racing to get my iRacing credits this season but still almost got a top 10 overall for the Skippy TT's :)

@Spec - I think if you get top3 for your division you get promoted, if not then it's based on iRating too.

I got bored and started running the Legend Ford yesterday, I was actually doing pretty good, got a win in only my third ever oval race :), full of confidence I started my forth race, that's when I came across the type of racer we all fear :grumpy:, this guy got hit half way through the race, from then on his mission was to destroy everyones race, he started driving the wrong way round the track, basically just trying to line people up to take them out. It was carnage :ouch:. Hoped never to do this but looks like I'll make my first complaint :(

I was like 154th in the Mustang, made division 6 (3rd in division 8 Time Trials). Not bad for a one armed 51 year old. :D

Damn! I can't get a damn clean race down! Twice taken out from the lead by some HPD hotshot! The first race was an HPD guy that had no place runing in an HPD, a lap down and had to get involved on the GT battle for the lead, spun out while passing me and came back into the track and collected me. Second race again taken out from the lead, this time by another HPD guy, this time the guy was planning on an outside move going into T8 a spot where the C6.R tracks out to the edge of the track to turn into T9, anyways as soon as I'm clear of him I move over to the outside to turn in but the guy thought I was going to go in at the same speed as him and got into me sending me flying into the barriers and out of the race.
On both races I would've gotten the 95 points I need to win this damn championship!

Alright guys, I'm coming back and running a full season after taking a season hiatus. What series do you think will be best? Prototype and GT? Williams F1? Indy?

Holy Cow!! Just had a brilliant race in the best Mustang time slot of the week. I needed more than 105 points to move up a few spots....well, we had a super ringer field, but I still ended up 4th after some lap 1 carnage and a clean race. 149 points later I'm 10th overall and 4th in Division 2. I know there is still a full day of racing, but I hope the points stick.

This race was a great way to end my first full season! Time for a brew.

Best of luck to everyone else!

Indy Fixed is pretty popular, Proto/GT can be a big PITA, F1 is a Friday evening only deal for a decent SOF.

Thanks Nastradamus, I'm not sure how much time I'm going to invest in the Caddy as my sim racing time is always limited due to my wife and little boy, so depending on the decided time slot it may work for me or it may not. Also, I'm going to fire up the old PS3 and give GT Academy a shot again this round, I'd love to see how far I get this year with all the additional people entering. 👍

Once GT Academy is over you can bet I'll be back to iRacing. :)

Holy Cow!! Just had a brilliant race in the best Mustang time slot of the week.

Oh, man!:banghead: I was going to enter that race, but I wasn't feeling the Mustang in the practice session. I did the 12pm and 6pm Grand Am Premier races and wasn't in the mood for all the sliding around after driving the Riley.

I did improve to 8th place in points in the Premier Grand Am Series today though:tup: Long way to go with 7 rounds left. Starting to really get the hang of the Riley. Was only 1-1.5 sec off from the aliens at Homestead. Hope I can make top 3 and get some winnings at seasons end.

Grand Am series doesn't 'split' very often and the times you can race are more limited than other series like Skip Barber, Star Mazda, etc. If you are really fast than I'd say go for it. But if you're not very fast yet then I'd highly recommend a different series that has more splits so you can find people around your skill level

The Riley itself is a really fun car to drive though (at least on the Old Tire model Idk about it on the NTM really)

----

So I have this funny strategy I do. Since I knew Watkins Glen was such a risky track I made sure that if I raced I allocated time for a 2nd race. This way, if that 1st race goes bad then I can come back and do the second race to make up for it. This has been working for me. This ensures I end my weeks on a good note (like Swifty suggests).

Just wish people would drive more clean. These wrecks I see are so silly and easy to avoid. It's like some of these people dont listen to their spotter and don't practice either. I see some dummies wrecking during Warmup too.

Had a good week but Watkins was so risky. I saw so many wrecks. Very stressful. I am lucky I ended this week on a good note

What about GT vs C6R, I'm personally leaning toward the GT, but I'm open toward any suggestions. I'm just curious for down the road, I'm class D now

I doubt it will split regularly but we wont know for sure til the new Class C series comes out. I know the Proto & GT Fixed was sporadic with splits. So my guess the new series won't split much either

Sometimes it can be a good thing though when it doesnt split. The SOF might be higher. It might be cleaner. Might be much harder to keep up though. When I get into a decent SOF (1700+) I just let the super fast dudes go and fight off my peers. I can still usually net a favorable placing. Just depends. It's multi-class and both cars are fast. So that might be an issue Idk

The GT series should be pretty popular, the reason so many dropped the GT cars is the huge number of bad HPD drivers out there. Now with the HPDs out of the question there should be some good racing ahead, add to that 40+ car grids and you have a winner!
As to wich car to pick, well that's a hard one! I love them both! I would say go with the FordGT as it is the easier to drive of the 2.
