Hey guys, I just signed up yesterday & it took me a while to get used to everything (first PC sim, first time on iRacing (obviously) & it was my first time using my T500rs)
All was going well though there was some trips into the walls.
I eventually tried a Qualy event at Lime Rock & got a 1:00.1xx which I was proud of seeing as I started the day with a 1:02
I looked at the standings (I came 3rd btw) 58.6xx. Is that a normal time or was he just an alien? I lost most of my time in the first sector but the last sector I was the fastest :D
I started my first race (against the 58sec guy) I was 2nd so it looked good for a podium finish :)
Had a poor start went down to 4th :( Then a guy spun out directly in front of my & I couldn't move, ruined my car, race & now my rating is 2.21 :( Seems like a struggle for me to get promoted quickly now :(
Also I seem to always get a bit on the grass coming out of the corners & that kills my safety rating too. Do I just stick to some slower yet safer lines & go around with no incident's to increase the rating or just try winning?

I just managed a 59.993 you don't know just how excited I got when I looked down & saw that I actually got under 60secs!

Have you gotten the latest T500RS settings?
The recommended ones in the T500 thread is old now. Basically everything is correct but move the main strength or what it´s called from 100% to 60%
Then use the slider in game until you find the sweet spot for you.
T500 is simply amazing :)

And to answer your question, practice more until your just as quick but never touch the grass. More practice will make you safer and not put that front wheel or rear wheel on the grass so much ;) (i do it sometimes myself but it´s just something you have to think about while racing)
And yes, everybody will hit a wall where it seems everybody crashes in front of you and you always end up in carnage. Just fight through it and later with the experience you will be able to dodge 99% of the wrecks. Sometimes it´s impossible i know ;)

My current settings in order are 100% 100% 10% & 0% so the first 100% should be 60%?
I just had an awesome race & would've easily won if it weren't for 2 silly mistakes running wide at the first corner.
Ended up 6 secs behind 1st. (each off cost me 7-8secs so I could've won by about 8-10secs.. Shame really but oh well.
In just these first 24 hours I've had more fun than I have in a while on GT5. It may be just the wheel I haven't tried it on GT5 yet but damn iRacing is so much fun!
Can't wait to meet some of you on the track, lookout for "Darren Westby" on track :)

Thanks to Hampus and Dch for the info, I'm having a bit of trouble with the legend cars at the moment. i just cant' get them quick through the corners. The setup is fixed right now so i can't change anything. but it seems it's eithier right on th bottom but really slow or it's up high and around or just riding that line. Any help there would be appriciated and thanks in advance.

That's awesome man! You're really fast for just having picked it up.

We should practice together sometime in a session. I love LRP. My best is 59.236 in a race. It takes a little bit to find those last few tenths but the key is seat time and using as little steering input as possible. We can do some lead and follow so I can show you some of the intricacies of the track. Can't wait for Okayama next week! The Nvidia cup's super fun.

Btw that time is off, the world record time @ LRP is 58.750.

Roadster and Cup are to completely different cars. it´s not just steering wheel on either side.
What they have done though is given the roadster the Cup tires and the same aero model.

And no, 5ths atleast is BS. Check the WR´s and see for yourself.

Check wha-?
Roadster is definitely the faster of the two by about 5 tenths minimally.

58.7 + .5 = 59.2

Next time take a step back before you so confidently display your wisdom. Notice I said "minimally" meaning the larger gap @ Laguna between the two cars is... not the minimum.

You don´t want completely different cars in the same class yet you want another car which is basically the same as the Ford V8 in the class? Makes no sense.

I was talking about how most cars in iRacing are real life spec race cars so there's no need there. Then I mentioned a few of the cars that are in iRacing that are part of a real life multi-constructor series that would do well to have one more real world series competitor car.

I left out the two Formula 1 cars 'cause I think they'd rather go to racing hell then try to gain access to the counter-part chassis for those two.

It really does seem to take alot to get those last few tenths, just pushed my hardest to get a 59.937. Not even a tenth faster..
It might have been a 58.7/8xx then I'm not sure as it was yesterday.
It would be awesome to do some lead & follow stuff :)
I've heard Okayama is supposed to be amazing fun so I'm looking forward to it!

Is there a way to block certain people on this so you never race them again?
I've just had my race ruined by the same guy. Thats twice now..

Would it make sense to subscribe for X amount of time just so I can run laps on a few tracks (2 of which are additional content)? I'm not impressed with the car selelction so I will probably settle for the MX-5. I got a chance to run some laps on a verizon IZOD set-up and was rather impressed with the physics. Though, my only intention to using the software would be to learn tracks that I have access to IRL.

So pretty much, is a subscription worth it with the sole intent to only use the software for practice laps?

Yes, it is going to be the best representation of the track.

58.7 at Lime Rock is insane, i'm assuming fresh tyres on an empty fuel tank while drafting, my personal best in a test session is a 59.4, optimum of 59.2 and i'm hard pushed as to where else to get time. Some drivers are just litterally aliens.

You are seriously comparing ONE track? GTC races on alot of tracks.
Sometimes the difference is around 0.1, one track the Cup is even faster.
Minimally to me means "at least" 0.5 seconds.
Maybe it´s me not knowing enough english.

Yea it´s crazy, i managed to do a 59.478 in race which is ok to me but still puts me at 690 LOL.
Haven´t really tried to go after it but it´s possible if you put down the time and effort.

Try these,

The recommended settings by the the guy who programs the FFB in iRacing.
Then just adjust the slider in game to your liking depending on what car it is and if it´s got power steering etc.

For the T500 RS use the following:
- Master Gain set to 60%
- Constant set to 100%
- Periodic and Spring are not used (set to 100% anyway)
- Damper (shock?) set to 0% or more by feel if the wheel is too loose
- Auto centering spring turned off (by the game?)
- Rotation/Angle set to 900.

1080 unfortunately doesn´t work right now, the T500 creates it´s own virtual stops so better to leave at 900 for now until the next build.

Hah... Its a good day for me if I can even get 1.00.xxx in the Mustang even. Think my best in the miata is a 1.02.xxx... So terrible at iRacing but love it just the same.

how fast should I be able to go driving a Mustang with the baseline setup around Laguna Seca? I am trying to get down into the 1:38's

Best I've managed is a 1:41 with a Laguna setup I found on the forums. I Haven't tried with the baseline. I think if you look at the records for the Mustang on Laguna the best times are in the 1:36's or so.

^That's pretty cool stuff. On a smaller scale its nice to see stuff like the Thrustmaster sponsorship for the Mustang series this season too.

I think they will in the future, it´s still a relatively small company to something like Sony and Polyphony Digital but for sure we will see something like this in the future.

We already have it but nobody gets to drive real cars at the end of the season ;)

That's awsome! I'm about to order my pc! Looking forward to running with you guys in a few days!
Any advice for this rookie?

As a rookie with a rookie license. Try your hardest not to crash. It doesn't matter how fast you go as a rookie, it only matters that you get the basics down.

The main goal of the Rookie class is to get out of Rookie class ;)

Some people like to take it easy around the track when in race and just rack up SR.
I can honestly say that i practiced like hell, got confident in my abilities to race close with other drivers and i raced my heart out in every single rookie race. 110% win or lose.

That way you learn racecraft which is arguably THE most important thing in racing.
Took me one day from morning to evening to get out of Rookie class.

100% agree with you there! Speed is nothing without racecraft!
Thank's for the advice guys! Do I need any aditional software/programs?
I read somwhere here tha you need to download something to make your skins and be able to see the liveries on the other cars?

Go to TradingPaints.com when you get the game.

1. Sign up
2. Upload your own skins if you have any (usually $10 will get you a mighty fine skin from a member, i leave that part to the pro´s and the skins i´ve gotten have been top notch)
3. Download TradingPaints desktop downloader
4. Choose what cars you want to download skins for, press download or start. (it takes care of everything for you, placing them in the correct folders etc)
5. Start iRacing and be amazed at a new level of visuals compared to the lame standard skins you will see otherwise.

Now that you mention it, methinks a alternate title for iRacing should be "World of Racecraft". :D

Thank's for the help man! I'm pretty stoked about it! Looking forward to getting in as soon as my new pc gets here!
wish I could start playing with the liveries and skins now!

This new telemetry system should be interesting. A shame it'll be too complex for me.
