GT3 Series is so frustrating this week at Road Atlanta. The McLaren, the car I'm choosing this season, is just not taking to the bumps well. I've worked on a setup to make it a lot more stable but, it still struggles. Sure enough, my times are good enough for the top 8 in the top split races but, I just can't keep the thing off the curbs through the downhill esses and through the final corner :/

I see several people struggling with the curbs in the McLaren. The Ruf seems to handle the bumps better. I have to be a little careful coming out of 4 at the top of the esses, though. Twice in practice and once in the race I just ran, I'm digging through the left hander aiming for the curb on the left, and when I steer back to the right, the rear end just keeps going. After the last spin, I started feathering the throttle just a touch through 4 and it feels a bit more stable.

If I had a dollar for every time I've spun on the curbs in practice I would be rich. Thankfully I've kept it off the walls in the races (got in a wreck or two, but no solo spins). I chose the mclaren too this season because I don't like racing the car everyone else does. Hopefully the mclaren will be better at courses without these style curbs

I did my first laps in a long time last night, I chose the RUF but thinking about running in the Mclaren now too just to be different to everyone else  but my main problem will be actually finding time to practice enough so I can race :(

Have you seen this?

I used the car last night on a 90 minut league race against the Ruf and with a good setup that someone gave me the car felt incredible, fast, stable and maneuverable, I've never liked Zolder since its inception and this setup made me love the damn track!!!
Qualied 2nd about .1xx behind a Ruf in the hands of a very fast driver and in practice we where something like .009 appart! I ended up winning the race and never once I went off or spun.

Hmmm, something that I'll definitely have to try today. The curbs at Zolder are much flatter than Road Atlanta. I think the time difference between the cars is not so bad at a circuit with flat curbing. Though I do think that the RUF is a bit quicker.

*edit*

Holy cow. Night and day difference with -2.5 camber in the rear. It's like driving a completely different car! Went from running consistent 1:20.3's with Race fuel to running consistent 1:19.7's. Makes the car much more competitive for sure. But, it's still lacking a bit around Road Atlanta. Will be interesting to see how it fares at the rest of the circuits.

The Ruf can stomp over Atlanta's curbs like nothing. The McLaren explodes. However, apparently Atlanta's curbs are fairly steep in real life. Check out professional races there. Most drivers stay way clear of the curbs in the esses.

Glad to see it changed your perspective on the car, you'll find the speed, right now the World record quali belongs to a McLaren with no draft.

Just a tip. Most of the fast guys use the curb in turn 4 to an advantage. I've managed it a few times. If you exit 3 with your tires on the curb of 4 and ride your tires on top of the curb until the circuit straightens out, the car will not over rotate and will be really quick through there.

I'm still struggling with the speed. Down to a 1:18.9 in Quali trim with consistent 1:19.4's in Race trim. Most sessions I'm in, I'm not used to being outside of the top 10. In US sessions, I'm generally around 15th. European I've managed to average in the top 15. With most series and cars I'm in the top 3 to 5 all the time. So, I definitely think there is a bit of a speed advantage to the RUF at Road Atlanta. Though I think Silverstone will be a track where the McLaren will excel.

I'm going to guess Mert Uzel* was the driver that ran that quickest lap. He's such an animal in the McLaren. Always has been.

It was actually Dylan Sharman, who's pretty much an animal in any car lol!

I've come across him a few times and he was definitely really really quick. Sometimes I wish I could drive as fast as those guys. Feels a bit strange that I am getting shown up by so many people but, it just goes to show that there are many talented guys out there. It's like any sport, you really have to be of a certain few to be at the next level.

Sorry to double post but, this is something that many should see. I've just had to post this after the most recent GT3 race. Massive glitch in the system. If it happens more than once, could potentially be a season killer for a few people.

Hey guys. Was just running in the GT3 race in a McLaren around Road Atlanta. I was quite happy as I was running in the top 15 for the first 12 laps or so after starting P20. I received no INC points and no warning saying that I have cut the course when, coming down the hill to the final corner, I was given a straight 15 second stop and go penalty for cutting the course. A bit strange as I have gotten no INC or any corner cutting slow down warning. Anybody else seen this problem occur before? I believe it happened to the driver behind me as well, as he came into the pits for a 15 second duration as well.

Full Race Replay is in the attachment below. I am in the #11 White and Orange McLaren.

Looks like the file size might be too large for the forums. I've just uploaded it to Dropbox. Hopefully the link will work.

Here's the link to the replay. Should be able to download it from Dropbox.

Kinda like the bug at Spa Enduro config, where people are getting "Wrong Way" after Poulhoun.

Sucks as I was going to Run GT3 challenge, and two of my tracks are Road Atlanta & Spa. Will see what happens with me @ Road Atlanta tonight.

Just had a mega race in the GT3 at Road Atlanta! It was the highest SOF I've ever raced in at 3719. I started 20th and ended up finishing 9th! Of course a few guys ahead crashed out but I made a some nice passes too. I have never pushed so hard in my life, you have too because any slacking and you'll drop down the order its so close between everyone. Got a 18.5xx on my last lap which is a new pb for me. Teeth have felt it this week rattling across them kerbs!

I've run a 1.19.5 in a race with the McLaren without the -2.5 camber in the rear. I'll have to try that to see how much faster I can be. BTW I painted a cobra golf livery for my McLaren that's pretty darn spiffy with the metallic layers :)

Just did a GT3 race but lost connection on the lap to start. Quickly restarted and could start from pits with a 90 second tow. I thought why not and just went for it. Stayed in front of the number 1 for a while untill I started to drive towards others, but I was a lap down so I could not overtake. I stayed behind for a while, driving slowly towards them and the number 1 coming in faster and faster. As he passed me a guy that wasn't supposed to overtake me (he was blue for me) but did, I thought what the hell and got back in my pace. Overtook a bunch of guys and a few of them weren't that happy as I could see by their driving style. Finished 16th of 33 entries. 16 laps in the 1.20's, just no 1.19's =(

But I wanted to ask, what would you guys do in a situation like that?

McLaren or Ruf? I'm proudly part of the McLaren minority in the series. I'm trying the camber trick tonight too to see just how fast I can get

Well, my first V8 Supercars Americas race this year didn't go very good. I made the top split (Barely) and started dead last (21st). Got a decent start and was running 17th until I binned at just past the halfway point after getting loose out of the final turn. Unfortunately the crash even made it onto the broadcast. (Around the 37 minute mark, just search V8sonline on youtube and it should be up, 2014S1 Round 1, Mosport).

Hopefully the rest of the season goes better.

The level of driving in the GT3 Challenge Series is... well below par. Even the highest splits have a driver massively cock up and ruin about half of the field. I've run 4 races. 1st was a DNF from hitting a Curb (Bouncing Betty) that threw me into the wall immediately. Second race I was rear ended by a Porsche going into the chicane. 3rd Race I had that glitched penalty that I mentioned earlier. And now in this 4th race, a driver turned into the hairpin about 10 meters too early and spun taking out 7 cars as the top 15 were within 7 seconds after lap 5...

That's not making me hopeful to race a GT3 challenge tonight.

Was sitting at a 4.01 C SR, so for GT3 I have to stay at 4, until i fast track to B.

Do a skippy TT at Summit Point and get up to 4.03SR. Join a race, can't tell you what split cuz site is down, but probably top 1 or 2 out of 3. Start from pits, just determined to get some SR for GT3 later. Get PLOWED at turn1 by some genius. Ended up losing .02 SR, so now I guess i'm just going to TT and get up a little bit more.

Wish they gave some kinda of ETA for these things.

I was caught up in a 10+ car pileup in the most recent GT3. A Ruf looses it coming out of the hairpin. He's leading a nose-to-tail pack of roughly 10 cars and I don't think a single one made it through  Sr took a big hit

@Kamuifanboy I was taken out in that same wreck! That dude apexed for the hairpin back in turn 3

I think I'm trying too hard or something.

I'm joining races with the sole purpose of gaining SR, and end up losing it. Even trying to take it easy, I end up going wide out of turn 4 at Interlagos all the time. It's getting frustrating.

I want to drive Proto/GT :/
