However I had the most fun on North Wilkesboro in the truck.

Okay, I haven't even looked at the track list yet, but I had no idea this track was in this game, and if I didn't want it before, I certainly do now. Maybe I am a little biased since I live in North Carolina, but I loved racing on this track in NASCAR Racing on PS1, and it pleases me to see that this track was added to the game. I could be mistaken, but I think the last time we ever got North Wilkesboro on disc was with NASCAR Legends.

It has a lot of character and lapped traffic kept me on my toes the whole time.

I know that feeling. Reminds me of Martinsville in NASCAR 2000, that track was a lot of fun in that game for this very reason. It pleases me to see North Wilkesboro is like this.

Only planning to play the career. I’ve seen the carnage online and want no part of it.

Even for someone who hasn’t played a Nascar game since Daytona on the Dreamcast, that first race was way too easy. Need to find a more challenging difficulty level.

If you mean the Discovery race, it is easy so people can qualify for the Menards series and start their career. Once you start that series races you can go to the career race settings and set the AI up to 105%.

I actually meant the first Menards race, but I’ve redone it now at a much higher difficulty and been put firmly in my place.

I used to think oval racing was boring, so it's very strange to be having much more fun on those than the road/street circuits. Some of it is probably due to the awful brakes on these cars (and the weird track limits punishment system). Still getting to grips with the strategy, I don't know when to pit and when to stay out, never mind all this stage stuff. Need to watch some actual racing.

The 40 player multiplayer races on Talladega are indeed like Wreckfest but when you get a clean race on an oval that is not flat out the racing is brilliant. You should probably give it a try. As time goes on only the serious players will remain so the racing will probably get better over time. Great game.

Tbh I am also learning the tracks for the most part but Las Vegas and Kansas worked really well.

Richmond, Dover, Kansas, Indianapolis Park (the short one), Phoenix. Had good online races in all of those. Dover is just a great track anyway as is Indianapolis Park. Phoenix always has multiple lines to run which makes it very intriguing to race online on as it's dictated by setup and so on.
