Irrational Tendencies in GT5

Back in early December the PS3 was saving and got some power failure, the file got corrupted, and as you all guys know, we couldn't back up back then.

Lost everything when I was A-Spec 30 and B-Spec 29 with 600 cars or so.

Well, I just remained silent, in shock, stood up from the couch, slowly walked toward the nearest wall, lowered my eyesight, kind of breathed more rapidly, and boom...

Got a pretty strong blow against the wall... My knuckles kind of hurt back then...

:scared:

After what I call the "Nürburg Tragedy", I started over again. PD also gave us save back ups, and I got 5 USB's to have 5 back ups (another irrational thing right there).

Today, I'm pretty close to the platinum trophy, should have it in a couple of days...

Happy ending. :)

P.S. Got a UPS now just for kicks...

I'm a tad obsessed with figuring out the actual value of each car against what it costs. I'm currently running all (most) of the premiums through an identical performance test and copying the test data as well as the car data (HP, weight, price, etc...) into a spreadsheet where I can sort said data any way I'd like. Yeah, it's time consuming.

I detest the "oil change" feature, since it gives a power boost. I like my cars with 300km and no oil changes, that way they'll have exact factory power.

All my cars have to be totally stock, I haven't bought any tuning shop items. I want to drive the car as built, not with a load of extras on it. A Ferrari F430 with an extra 200hp and a giant wing, just isn't a F430 anymore.

It makes racing online impossible as everyone else has racing softs on everything and giant rear wings, but I don't mind, I just try to keep up on comfort softs

Exactly, I was doing that even in GT4, where the cars doesn't have break-in period, but without Oil change I can remember that they will never drop in HP, and until now, this seems to be the same even in GT5. All my premium cars without oil change didn't dropped neither 1 HP after several km, but the cars with oil change dropped just after 150-200 km. I hate oil change, they made it wrong, my IRL car doesn't gain any HP when I change oil...

Bless me father for I have sinned.
I have about 5 '99 Impreza Wagons.Only two have been driven.
I also tend to drift cars in my Tiff Needell voice.

I'm thinking it was done that way because, in real life, high-quality synthetic oil performs better in high-stress situations or something like that. Two problems with that though:

-That still isn't a direct power boost
-A supercar wouldn't come with cheap organic oil, let alone a formula one car.

I've always had a strange habit of looking behind me (as in, using the rear view) when not necessary, or just, in some sort of weird habit.

Depending on what it 'feels' like I have to do, will either hold it down for some random amount of time (until it feels like I'm OK to stop) or press it regularly / rapidly for no real reason, other than to complete the 'pattern' of presses my brain seems to be 'needing'

I've always just assumed it was some obsessive compulsive behaviour, seems harmless enough, just weird =)

i do this all the time.............even when racing offline...in practice mode.... when im the only car

When I get over about 20 cars in my garage, my OCD takes control and I have to sell them all, otherwise my garage feels messy. It does annoy me because If I hadn't sold them all, I'd have had tons of expensive cars by now. :/

When I buy a used car, I have to perform the "Chassis Rebuild" and "Engine Rebuild" options in GT Auto before driving the car. I suppose that's not really irrational since the car does drive worse without a rebuild.

Before I golded all my license tests, it annoyed me when I had Silver's or Bronze's because it looked inconsistent and uneven. That's part of what drove me to gold the tests.

I have to select EVERY option in GT Auto, even when I know it won't allow me to do it for the car I'm in. For example, if you rebuild the engine in a used car, you don't have to change the oil anymore, but I still click the oil change service, even though I know it will say the oil is still fresh. Or when I paint the car, I won't need a car wash after. And I 'attempt' to race mod every car, even though I know the car I'm in doesn't allow it.

Wow, this is me too. Can't tell you how many Standards I've tried to give racing bodywork or different rims. It always says "you can't do this to a Standard car" and I know it's gonna say this, but I try anyways.

Kind of like the lottery. One of these days I'll find the "one" Standard car that PD snuck some Premium upgrades for.

Often I critique my own driving. This works against me in online lobbies, as many will say that I talk to myself:nervous:

I'm definitely obsessive about certain aspects, and it actually limits my enjoyment.

1. I check the UCD after almost every race because I don't want to miss a car. I know I can go 6 or 7 races before they're all replaced, but I have to check it each time. I even avoid championships in the fear that I'll miss some used cars.

This.

I also tend to drive very close to the pit wall and wave to an imaginary pit crew, upon winning a endurance race, no I don't know why either. :boggled:

If I have decent lead, I find it absolutely necessary to hit the e-brake and slide backwards over the finish line.

Lol, me too.

This carries over into the tuning shop as well. When you're in most race cars or rally cars, they always come with certain mods pre-installed, like FC Suspension or FC Transmission, but even though I know the car has that part already, I have to 'double-check' every menu.

And yes, I have OCD IRL, although it's moderate. Sometimes it makes life a little more interesting .

I thought I was the only one. I also HAVE to rebuild chassis/engine on used cars before driving them.

Also, the oil changes and car washes drive me crazy. They all have to have fresh oil and be clean. Drives me nuts, sometimes I drive every car to GT auto and make sure they're good even if I know I haven't driven it since the last time. I so wish PD would put an option in the pop up menu in the garage.:banghead:

Ah, but the difference is (unless you're just lying to yourself :sly:) you are actually double-checking to make sure. I do it because if I don't click every menu before exiting, it bothers me later. Picture in your mind Jack Nicholson in "As Good As It Gets", dial it back a bit, and you've got me.

When I watch TV or listen to music, the volume must be set at a volume that is divisible by 5. When I walk, I must take steps evenly; if my first step is on my right foot (and it always is) then my last step will always be on my left. If I'm browsing the internet and I have several tabs open, when I'm done I have to close each one individually, never closing them all at once by closing the whole window.

You see? Craaaaaazzzzzy.

I have OCD with checking the UCD or OCD  after every race sometimes and I cant stand having racing tires on a car that only needs sports/comforts....it has made me a better driver being this way though :) I also wash the car and change the oil everytime I buy a car, and unfortunately I have a habit of restoring a LOT of cars and keeping track of all of it in a google doc. I used to HAVE to record fastest lap times on a google doc as well, but somehow got away from that....but I still write them down sometimes :sly:

The worst case I can think of is someone that has to rebuild a car each time they drive it....I feel for ya....

I'm in the habit of stalking the used car lot, buying duplicate cars just so I can fully tune one while leaving the other car with the permanent mods off. This doesn't actually seem that irrational to me, it's more practical really.

Here's some actual irrational tendencies...

> I've been in the habit of researching, machine testing, and filling out pre-printed spec sheets (pen & paper) for most every car I drive, ever since the first Gran Turismo. I do this because it makes the entire gaming/car experience seem more real. :) If I don't do this...if I just get in a car and start driving, something is definitely missing from my game.

> I'm also in the habit of having different "drivers", even in A-spec, since my GT/GT2 days. So I pretend sometimes I'm a yuppy driver who only drives BMWs, Lexus, and such. My Vanilla Rice character only drives "riced out" rides (Integras, Civics, Evos, etc.) There's the Soccer Mom. The white trash trailer park guy who only drives American rides (with a few crappy imports thrown in occasionally). "No replacement for displacement" is his motto.

> I used to make little stories during my GT/GT2 days for these drivers. Nowadays, I don't have this sort of time anymore. :( I miss my stories. :neurotic:

> As I drive, I'm also in the habit of leaning into turns, rocking this way and that as the car reacts to bumps and avoids other drivers.

You Sir, are getting the most fun out of this game... I salute your commitment to the GT series! 👍

1. I do the look back thing after every turn, didn't notice I did it till my gf said something about it to.

2. I have click everything in GT Auto, even on standar cars, if I exit out before I do then I can't stop thinking about it until I go back and check.

3. I always have to make sure I'm using the same tire as the AI.

4. In endurances races I try to always put black marks in the same spot on some turns.

5. When I pit, the lap I pit on has to end in a 5 or 0 (5, 10, 15, 20) and with the sound on the TV or music

6. If I effect a AI car and he gains or loses a position because of me, I have to restart the race. I like to know what cars can beat what.

7. If Im winning by a lot then I stop before I finish so the other cars can try and pass till the end of the race, I do that online and offline.

8. There is only one turn in the game I lean or turn my head to take, and its the turn on the Nurburgring, its the banked turn, don't know the name, but you know what one I'm takin about

I'm sure there are more but that's all I can think of now

Oh don't know how I forgot

9. I hate, no I really HATE that I can make the used cars have 0 miles, I want all the cars I own to have only mile I put on the (in game not real life) I wish u could buy all the cars with no miles, I would pay double for them just to have it like that.

And on my 7. I meant I stop so the other cars can try and pass eachother till the end of the race, not me, incase anyone way think that.

I always buy multiples of my favorite cars.
I always look back regardless of my lead.
On the 787B I sometimes shift from 1st to 5th just for the sound
I almost always wash a car and change the oil after a long series race.
I hate the fact that the UCD has cars that don't have 0 miles.
I always have to have at least 3-4 million in the bank although with my late GT500 spending spree, that amount has lowered considerably.
I always log on everyday to get a random paint chip.
Car colors must match
Most cars I drive have to be bone stock.

If i'm online, in a PP restricted room the first car i go to must be my fully modded Scuderia. We have done 500+ online miles together, and not going to it makes me feel like i'm cheating :(. Problem is, by the time i detune it to race regulations it's usually the slowest car on the field.

Each car i own has to have both comfort hards and racing softs. I'm yet to figure out exactly why, as i always use the standard tyres anyway

If i'm in a good online room, i cannot go to bed until either the room closes or i fall asleep. I feel i might be missing something and physically can't bring myself to leave the room

Before i go to bed (assuming i didn't get stuck in a good room) i always bring my PS3 to my room with me, hook it up to the small tv in my room and go to sleep. I don't even use it.

When i wake up, guess what the first thing i do is? That's right, the PS3 needs to go back to the lounge room & the 50' plasma

I must finish an event/race once i've started it. I golded all licenses with this determination/insanity and am afraid to start a 24hr race before in race saves with the chance that i'll fall asleep.

/in looking rant

EDIT: 1 more, the first song i hear when i turn on the PS3 with GT5 has to be Feeder's Buck Rogers (GT3)

EDIT 2: On forums, i must read, re read and re re read every post i make to check for spelling. And i must check back every few minutes to see if anyone has commented on the thread (that one is embarrassing)

When on a clear straight, I switch through all the camera angles several times, just for a small change of 'scenery', before switching back to in-car or bumper for the next turn.

I can't stand old used cars with pathetic tiny wheels. I'd have bought a few AE86s by now, but just the sight of those toy wheels puts me off.

NO USEDS WITHOUT OIL CHANGES.

Good to see that I'm not the only one, who has some strange habits :dopey:

1. Every car gets an immediate oil change

2. Ever since GT2 I always looked for ways to get through the GT Mode without buying any cars - just relying on prize cars. In GT5 that means taking on the Lancia Stratos with the ridiculous Autobianchi A112 shopping trolley and spanking the Bertone Miura with an Alfa-Romeo Giulia. Truckloads of fun. When I realized I have to buy a Mini and a Gallardo to beat GT5's pathetic A-Spec mode, I got mad - really, really mad.

3. I never race a car without having done a lap on the Ring with it. It's called Ring-check. After every modification, it has to set a new Ring-time. :sly:

*Relieved

I always get into car dealerships, browsing through many cars, and when I came out, I don't buy any cars, even though I have 14M cr..

  • Probably the most rational thing I've started doing; buying every possible tire for all new purchases. Never know what the limitations might be online.
  • When painting a car, I have to use a paint from the same manufacturer, or at least a sister company (VW's using Audi paints are a-okay).
  • The two exceptions to this are wheel colours (I have a few select rim colour paints I keep stock of), and painting cars that I use exclusively for online racing (these are all Bright Jade).
  • In the quest to categorize all the paint chips for the Database, I had a very lengthy process in place before the recent updates to maximize bonus paint chips each day (per-console limits stopped it). It meant up to 45 a day, and usually about 15 were new finds, if I had enough time to spend on endless resets.
  • Despite having the ability to paint our cars, it hasn't stopped me from buying every example I come across of certain models. Why do I have 5 stock Countachs? Because they're all original paint variations! My reasoning is if I ever gift them out...
  • "Victory spin!"
  • The mileage on used cars doesn't bother me, but it does drive me mad that I don't know how much I've personally put on. Why PD, why?!
  • During loading screens I have a habit of playing with the DS3's dual analog sticks. Left stick up + right stick down, left down right up, left left right right, left right right left, repeat. I seem to do this with all games, though. Obviously when using a wheel I don't.
  • Despite me now knowing the better attributes needed for a good Bob, I've kept my two main guys from release day on for the ride (W. Justice and A. Ventura), because I don't like the idea of dropping them before they either hit Level 40, or hit max experience.
  • I too try to get through the offline game portion without buying any extraneous cars. Of course, now that it's basically done... I've gone on a buying rampage, my total car count tripling in a month.
  • Nearly every online race's first attempt is in my yellow Caldina. Unless the PP is too high, or I'm somewhere that demands racing tires (it has them, but street cars always feel strange on them).

The looking behind you for no reason thing, i do this all the time. Started in the old GT games which i played with a pad. Then i got into PC sims and mapped my G27 top left button on the wheel to Rear view and i did it the same on there. I got GT5 and the same button is mapped as default for the rear view in GT5 (though it often disorientates me due to the rear view showing me the back seats in a lot of cars, instead of behind my car ^^).

I have no idea why i do it, doesnt matter if there are other cars on the track, but seems to be a common thing that people do.

.....I do this even theres no one behind me! eg the special events such as vettel challenge

I always buy every parts for my cars. But I neva drive them. Then when I want to drive them they sound wierd so I sell it. Also I keep cleaning my cars even doe it doesn't need cleaning. This might not sound wierd but for me it does.

For the last couple of weeks, I've been going through my 4wd cars and testing them all on the Mt. Aso course, as I love it. I organize it by times switched, pick the lowest one that is zero, clean, oil change, drive, check UCD, repeat. I only have ten left to race, hopefully I get a UCD full of 4wd cars soon! I also set up my own little challenges on different tracks... 30hp max on autumn ring mini, unlimited for high speed ring, 200hp on Ring Periphery, etc... its quite fun to find the best cars in each group, on the same tires...
