my bro bought a used 2000 civic si for 12,000 dollars. All of our friends down here in Hawaii said it was too pricey. I agree even though my brother kept on saying that the owner took good care of it. *sigh*.........he already had to change the battery which i told him to do from the very start but was to stubborn to do it. He also had to buy new tires as well because one of them had this fat air bubble sticking out of it. So what do you think? Was the Used Civic Si too pricey?

on the wrong thread and it is a bit pricey can u give us a pic of ur bro's civic

I could get a 2.3 Prelude for half that. Surely thats way better. Or an Accord Type-R (I dare say that last phrase will trigger the swearword filter  )

or a 1994 rx7 for 10k

Ok guys, slow down.

A) He's not asking "what could I get for $12K".
B) These cars you're naming aren't readily available everywhere all the time.
C) Maybe he spacifically wanted the `00 Civic Si

If you want one of the 6th gen Civic Sis you have to pay a lot. Like someone else in the thread said, I don't think I've seen one for less than $11k. I don't think I'd want to pay that much, but that's what they cost. Hondas in general have high resale values, the Civic Sis are even higher.

I wouldn't trust blue book value either, the blue book value for my 91 Si was $1500, however after it was totalled even the insurance company decided that it was worth $3000.

He did not necessarily get ripped off. It would help know some of the options, but 12,000 sounds like it could be right on par. Even though i would never pay that kinda cash for a civic. I hope he enjoys the car

i assume your talking american dollars, which would be around $17-18,000 canadian?you can get a 2004 lancer for a tad over $16,000 canadian. granted, it only has 160hp which is more than the civic(i think, i dont care much for civics so i never bothered to learn about them) and with the $2000 left over you could get a few items to increase the horsepower.so my opinion is, your brother wasted his money.

Uh, maybe it's different over in Canada, but here it's $17,000 US dollars for a 160hp Lancer. The cheaper versions are 130hp. At least according to Mitsubishi's site.

The Civic Si has a 1.6l DOHC VTEC motor, good for 160hp with an 8000rpm redline. By every account I've ever read it's an awesome engine, very popular for swapping into other Civics, although the 99-00 Sis came with them standard.

In addition you get four wheel discs, four wheel double wishbone suspension, and just an all around superb car. That and being fairly rare would be the reason for the high resale prices. Like I said I had a 91 Si and I didn't have a single complaint with the car. I've also driven a Miata and I own an MR2, and honestly being front wheel drive really isn't bad at all.

edit: Also, in Canada I'm pretty sure you guys call out Civic EX the Civic Si, and our Civic Si the Civic SiR. I don't know if they were doing that back in 2000, but if they were, the car he is talking about would be the Civic SiR up there.

Yeah. Lancer 2.4, the 162bhp version trimmed as Ralliart, starts at $15800. The base model actually has 120bhp, but even it, in all its mediocrity, starts at $13600, not $12000 or anyplace near it.

But the lancer looks like it was designed in 1995 with a Buick grille. The Civic has more presence, IMO. (Did i just say a Civic has presence? Well, compared to the base Lancer, I think it does.)

i was at a mitsubishi dealership last week and a 2004 lancer was there for $16,xxx and it comes stock with ac, power locks and windows, decent stereo and 5-spoke alloys.

2004 MITSUBISHI LANCER ES Sedan -$ 15,998.

2004 MITSUBISHI LANCER ES 4AT Sedan -$ 17,018.

2004 MITSUBISHI LANCER OZ-RALLY Sedan- $20,098

Plus, no Lancer in the United States will ever sticker under $13700. It wouldn't be hard to haggle them under $13000, but that's really the point of haggling.

He got an SI, not an ordinary civic, he won't be wasting money later in the future for any engine transplants beacuse he has a powerful VTEC engine in it already. I think the price was fair for a 2000 SI

3 years ago, my bro got a '97 civic 2-door for 7 gs. It had a new deck, and some rims. Low mileage. we got it for $7000. It was expensive but the only reason that one was chosen was because we knew the person and we knew how well he maintained the car.
