I have been playing for about 2 weeks now, and i noticed that the rally control is horrid! im so upset with the fact that every time you side the back of the car out to do a turn, the rear end acts like a magnet to the wall. Does anyone else notice this and find it rediculous?

The rallying in GT4 is a joke. It is very similar to Rallisport. The car slides and goes out of control way too much. It is also similar to Colin McRae05- very arcadish. And this is why you can't really use the Force Feedback steering wheel because it is so unrealistic and better off using the joystick pad.

I'm not crazy about it either...I agree.

BUT...I do like to drive these tracks....

I wonder if I can buy the Charger, paint it bright orange, buy dirt tires and race it on rally tracks like the Duke Boys..?

I'll give it a shot when I get home;)

I think you are just entering the turns too fast. That's what I did at first.

Once I got the hang of it though, I started to love it :D

I agree. I thought the rally was extremely difficult at first...but once I got used to it and learned how to control the turns by feathering the accelerator, it's really fun to rally now.

Im not upset yet, but I will be soon because I dont have a rally car yet, and I havnt tried those stages yet.

Rallying in real life is extremely difficult, very limited grip. You can not assume that you will get traction and hook up in time to exit a corner. Just imagine running on a gravel surface and suddenly just stopping. You would skid for quite a while before you come to a stop. A car weighs a lot more and is going alot faster but doesnt have much more surface area to gain traction (especially if the wheels are spinning).

I quite like GT4 with the DFP as its not as unmerciful as Richard Burns Rally but certainly better than GT3. Its all about going slow into the corner and modulating the gas and brake to control your slide and then power out of the turns.

IMO

Yeh... umm... rally racing is hard, in real life and in the game. From what I kno about physics, the game physics on the dirt are pretty close to real life. Driving on dirt is like driving on snow, it's pretty nuts. Don't complain because you can't do it properly yet.

just win the RSC in the second special conditions race and throw some dirt tires on it. Hell I love the rally racing and the snow tracks too, just gotta throw it down a gear, cut the turns a little early and as soon as the back end starts to break free shift back up a gear or even 2 if you need and counter steer, you should be able to keep the car under control and will be flying around those turns. Fun as it gets.

I run my wrx in dirt all the time. GT4's rally is great. The only thing is you don't use the ebrake like you might in real life. I hardly touch it on GT4. Other than that its pretty good. You actually have a bit to much traction in some of the cars i drove. Trust me GT4's with the DFP is pretty good. Anouther bad thing is the width of the tracks. To rally guys most of the tracks are like 4 lane highways. 👎

Those who have played Richard Burns Rally with the DFP know that GT4 ralling is a piece of cake (maybe for me it is). I have no issues with the rally, just proper throttle control as well as car balance (read about left foot breaking) and you can just dominate the rally i have almost beat all of the rally events got like 5 more to go and im done. BTW the DFP pwns in rally i love the jittery effect on the wheel its just sex.

haha, thats exactly what im doing, i bought the car and tires last night before i went to sleep, going to be taking pictures tonight, should be posted in the GT4 Drifting section.

And yeah, i noticed the rallying is harder than GT3 (but so is the whole game) although after a few races i was getting used to it a little. i thought it was just the car i was using but i guess not. that charger is going to be real interesting... lol

No, this is how rallying is supposed to be. GT3 was good, but GT4 is much better in this regard IMHO...

i completely agree. not only is the handling bad, but it is near impossible do get out of a drift (slide), which is really thonly way i turn. and can i say lack of rally courses to choose from?

I think the rally in GT3 is more realistic than GT4. The dirt and gravel races are too slippery.

i found the rallying too be much more realistic, once it clicks its really fun

i want to know how many of you guys have actually went fast on gravel? I have in my WRX. I've done many events with my car. Believe me when i say GT4 has more tranction than you will in real life.

Come again ?.. I didn't quite get that...

Rally in GT3 realistic ?... The rally part of GT3 is pure arcade. There's no way in hell you can carry that much speed on gravel..

Using the throttle correctly will snap the car out of slides just like real life, im guessing people are driving the rallys like they did in gt3? this method simply doesnt work in gt4................thank god

Exactly...!

"Look - The road is turning" - "It's ok - just keep it flat out, it'll work"....

or something...

I hated the rallys in gt3, it always felt like a taped on mode, now it feels more detailed and realistic it actually fits with the rest of the game

The one thing I don't like about the rally is the 5sec. penalty I've lost a lost of races because of that. The worst one are when I'm trying to pass the AI and I BARLEY tap the AI and I get a 5sec. penalty

I found rallying to be difficult. I play GT4 with my DFP though, which I think is easier then using the ds2 for this type of driving. My only experience so far has been the snow track while getting my professional license. I really think to drive the rally's well you need to keep your throttle in reserve, never flattening the accelerator, but, keeping the throttle at "half-staff" so-to-speak. I find if I do this, it give me the right amount of accelerator to push on to get me out of trouble in turns.

I've found that proper throttle control in rallies make it much easier and faster to break out of slides. (Keep in mind, I tested this technique using the Renault 5 turbo rally car at grand canyon). The 4WD can work to your advantage if you give it a sudden burst of power (say, by downshifting) in the middle of a turn. This seems to give you more grip. So, you would enter a turn in 2nd, slide halfway, downshift, and accelerate out of the turn. This seems to work pretty well for me, even though I've not tried the rally much.

You explained my technique perfectly! thats exactly what i tend to do

i think everyone was so used to gt3 controls and rally how u just accelrate and brake rigth before the turn and how unrealistic it was in sense....now they are just adpating to gt4 and think its bad because they arent used to it

Colin McRae05 arcadish?.... we must have not been playing the same game. While I still feel Colin McRae does rally better than GT, GT4 is a definate improvement.
