Is constant display switching bad? (normal to 480p or 1080i)

Having recently read some threads in this forum I noticed many of you are very concerned about the constant switch from normal display to 480p or 1080i and what effect (bad obviously) it has on your HDTV or in my case home projector.
I personally own a NEC HT1100 DLP home projector and this switching modes business seems very "unhealthy" to it.
I was hoping someone with good technical knowledge could shed some light on this case since most of us out there have forked out a considerable amount of money on our display devices.

P.S. 480p looks absolutely awesome 👍 . 1080i, too grainy for me.
 
I don't think it's as bad as people make it sound.

I've been thinking about a solution for the problem and I think I may have found one, sort of. You could pick up a set of those 'Y' RCA splitters and split the component cables from the PS2 to go to the HD and non-HD component inputs on the HDTV- that way all you have to do is switch the station between games. Make sense?

I'm going to give it a try tonight, I have one of those crappy HDTVs that don't support 480i over the component inputs. :crazy:

*EDIT* Er, after reading your post, I have a different issue. My TV doesn't support 480i over the HD inputs. Woops.

Well to be honest... no, I'm not quite sure what you suggested. What is an HD?

Sorry to hear about your tely not working with progressive.
 
this is silly. anyone with an HDTV switched between high definition and normal resolution programming multiple times per day. do you question if that hurts the tv?

HD is High Definition Television. Means the picture is clearer and what not.
 
There's no problem with the constant switching. If you suscribe to an HD service, your TV is switching from 480i to 720p/1080i almost every time you change channels. (Depending on your service and whether or not you only watch HD programming.)
 
thanks for the reply, but I do recall someone mentioning that he spoke with his dealer and the guy said it would degrade the brightness much faster...
