Is GT4 Going to Have Neutral?

Of course neutral is useful... if you spin the car in a curve (4wd or rwd), making a power 180-degree turn engaging 1st gear with full acceleration is much easier. To simulate this situation in GT3 you have to go for a full stop, hold the brakes (or e-brakes, i don't remember) and accelerate. It would be easier if we could switch to neutral... This way we don't have to stop the car to rotate it...

What you guys are actually saying is you want a clutch. With that I totally agree. Being able to launch when you want and jumping the start would be great. Being able to jam the clutch in to raise the revs if you spin would be great. A clutch is what you want. Find a single race driver who uses neutral for either of these tasks and I'll be very surprised.

Yeah but a car also has a child safety restraint and a windscreen wiper fluid bottle, but neither will be specifically useful to a driving simulator. ;)
If we had a H pattern gate, then of course neutral would be there, but even real cars with sequential gearboxes only have a neutral between first gear and reverse, which we can access using the handbrake or foot brake.

Basically, there is no point until more is simulated, so quit dreaming of neutral and start dreaming of a h-gate shifter/clutch combo ;)

it would be good if nuetrol was there so it be easeir to do burnouts

Neutral should be there between the 1st gear and reverse. Reverse should be under the 1st gear and neutral, and not on the separate button, so that it have to be shifted into.

Also, the thing of having automatic-only cars with no option of cahniging the transmission would be nice, but I know I'd hated it because I hate to drive in automatic. But it would be more accurate to real-world.

Having "neutral-to-1st-gear" starts would be great, but non-experienced players would find it diifficult to master. Though, some licences with starts would help.

Return of rolling-start races would be nice too. And I like idea with 3-2-1 lights on start, but only if the penalty would be given for the jump-start. And it would require neutral too. :D

Neutral would be sweet, but I'd much rather you had a choice of what kind of transmission you have in your car when you buy it, not when you start the race. When you buy a car from dealership it should ask something along the lines of "Manual or Automatic Transmission?" and then from that point on that car will have only a manual or automatic, and the only way to switch would be to drop in a different tranny.

And it should be true to life. A Viper or S2000 for instance cannot be had with an automatic in real life, therefore it should be manual only in GT4 as well. Same thing goes for automatic-only cars.

👍 Agreed

I also wish automatic in the game truly simulated an automatic transmission, rather than a "computer-shifted-manual." While that may seem at odds with the performance driving nature of the game, KY has made it quite clear he wants the GT series to be more realistic simulation rather than just another racing game.

Besides, once I've completed all the races, I must admit I enjoy just buying different cars and doing donuts/burnouts/cruising/etc, and having a neutral selection in the transmission would just make things more interesting :)

Hold on a second. I thought GT was meant to be a driving simulator. For it to be a real simulator to copy real life down to a tee. that means, it needs damage, fuel usage, tyre wear and a neutral gear.

However Logitech (insert other manufacturer here) would need to make a proper gear stick for this to really work imo.

Cheers, Jamie

I bought the h-gated shifter for my old Act Labs RS wheel when the shifter came out, but shortly after, my pedal box died, so I never had much of a chance to use it :(

It was absolutely wonderful for games that supported it, such as Viper Racing, and could be used as a sequential shifter for games that didn't. It's easily possible and do-able to make a proper shifter, the wheel-manufacturing companies just need to get their act straight and do it.

Oh, the things that would be improved if only I ran the world....:D

Just FYI guys, TOCA Race Driver 2 has clutch capabilities or no clutch manual.... so if you want a real sim experience while waiting for GT go buy it, it's only 29.99. It also has online and is tons of fun...

i think a it would b pointless

Crap - is this a driving simulator or not?

If some of you guys don't know why neutral, a clutch and a gated manual shift should be essential in a driving simulator then I think you've being hanging around computer screens for too long - go for a drive in a real 4/5/ or 6 speed manual transmission car with a clutch and find out for yourselves what I'm talking about.

p.s

I still regard 'Grand Prix Legends' as the most realistic simulator - it had neutral and a clutch. Add a gated shift, load up the ring and its pretty hard to beat.

The original 'Need For Speed' was an excellent simulator - it had neutral, although it was badly in need of a clutch like 'Grand Prix Legends'.

Viper Racing also had a clutch and neutral, and gated shifter support. It wasn't the greatest game, only having Vipers and a few tracks, but it sure was fun to play with the gated shifter :)

Also, it didn't have the track boundaries that most racing games had - you could go Viper Offroading if you felt like it (which I often did :D).
