is gt5 better than gt6

Personally I don't think it's good enough for succeeding versions of any game to just be better in some aspects. It's also not acceptable IMO to introduce bugs into systems and features that worked in previous versions, nor to take stuff away that served a purpose and had no drawbacks whatsoever. Camber worked in GT5, it does not work in GT6. Ride height tuning was backwards in GT5 at first, then neutrialized (not fixed, they just made rake irrelevant) and now it's backwards again in GT6. For a couple of months you couldn't copy and paste your tune sheets. No more top speed given when tuning a transmission. The individual gear ratio sliders that worked beautifully, suck in GT6, they are too sensitive in the higher gears. No more scaling of the mini-map, an important feature for determining who was near you in online racing. Etc. etc. etc.

Stuff is added or taken away with what seems like no real thought or planning, and certainly without listening to feedback from the fanbase. For that reason I'd have to say GT5 is the better game, there just isn't enough progress made with GT6 relative to the 3 years between launches.

At GT6's current level, It's still lagging behind 5. But that's fair if you factor in the amount of time that was already invested into GT5 post and prior to it's release. (and course maker of course)

And for some reason, I felt that GT6 was more globalized and less japanese. Which is a shame because GT5's UI and menu experience felt much deeper and elegant than 6's. One prime example was GT5's perfect tune settings menu.

Except that everything that was improved in gt5 should have made its way into gt6. This isn't two separate games from two separate companies that have chosen different approaches. One game was built on the bones of the other.

There's no reason that gt5s successes shouldn't be in GT6. That there's even a serious discussion about which is better represents a massive failure on the part of PD. Why buy the new game if the old one is better?

(why the hell I have to go back to main menu and garage to just change the car when I'm on the track???).

You don't. Exit the race/event you're (main menu of the event) in & simply press 'start'. You'll be in your garage. 👍

On topic, they both let the franchise down. So, for me, it's like choosing which one is the least crap. And on that one, I'm undecided...

This is a serious discussion? Sorry, the OP hasn't really made a compelling case either way, more of an observation that is a tad premature as far as I see it.

The OP hasn't, but other people certainly have. They have been detailed and explained their positions. Others have simply stated their answers, and yet more simply scoff at the idea of the question without actually thinking it through. See below.

To awnser the stupid question asked in the OP:
No, not at all...

It's only a stupid question if you're feeling defensive about it. It's a very reasonable question that a consumer might ask themselves when faced with GT5 and GT6 side by side on a shop shelf.

As for "not at all", do you feel that GT6 is superior to GT5 in every single way?

Yes I do.

In what ways do you feel that the B Spec in GT6 is superior to the B Spec in GT5?
In what ways do you feel that the Course Maker in GT6 is superior to the Course Maker in GT5?

GT6 does many things better than GT5, but I don't feel that it does everything better. I've chosen a couple of the things I think it does worse, and I'd love it if you could tell me how you perceive them as improvements in GT6.

  • I think gt5 is 50% better than gt6. We will have to wait for more updates to find out to our self's if gt5 is better than gt6
No I do not think GT5 is better than GT6. I prefer GT6. I did not enjoy GT5. I am enjoying GT6. Standards ruined GT5. Standards are handled MUCH better in GT6.

I think a lot of us are forgetting that the physics are new for GT6. It would be fair to say that there shouldn't be any new bugs if it was copy/pasted but it's not. I'm not saying it's from scratch new but there have been noticeable changes that I think allow for new bugs. It seems like it would be a simple fix but without knowing how the game works under the hood, it might be harder than we think to "fix" things like camber. It's not an excuse because I don't think it should have been shipped broken in the first place.

The only fair way to compare them is to wait for the patches to catch up. A lot of what was liked in GT5 was not in GT5 1.01. I'm not sure what the final version was but we really can't compare the two until we have GT6 v.1.08 for ex. or whatever patch GT5 is on.

No minus points for missing features from GT5, though?

Which features are missing, that aren't listed as being in future updates? Once implemented they could actually increase points.

If development stops before implementation, then they become negatives. Except for B-spec, leaving it out will give +0.5%

I thought we were comparing GT5 and GT6 at their current states. So the missing course maker and B-Spec in GT6 should mean negative points in an objective analysis of the games' current state.

I have applied the shortened load times as a positive offset placeholder.

I didn't use B-spec anyway so I don't see it as a loss.
I think the "course maker" in GT5 was awfully bad, so I think no course maker is superior to a "course maker"... A proper course maker would be very cool though.

It's still not exactly a walk in the park in GT6. Sure it's miles faster but some parts are still convoluted with lots of back/back/back required.
