Jaywalker
For the fun of it?

Desperate times seek desperate measures I suppose.

Having to acquire all the cars again must be a drag.

To me it re enforces the fact that Aspec is lacking.
Obviously on line is your answer but with an empty garage that's problematic too.

Don't see the fun it it but not knocking him. Boredom must set in to re do everything.

Restarting a game like this when you're in the middle of it is easy for a lot of people. If I were to guess, Jaywalker does't care about having to reacquire all the cars he has. Personally, I don't look at it that way. If the cars were "hidden" on different parts of all the tracks, meaning you had to do something special to get them, then I would probably never restart a racing game like that. You're playing GT5 wrong, IMO.

They are hidden to some degree.
Forget acquiring money for a moment. Certain cars are simply not available to buy because of your level.

The way I see it. If you had every car in the game it's only just begun.

IMHO.

Works for him so all is good.

Plus the 800 standard cars which are completely hidden for most of the time. It's not like every car in the game is freely available to buy at any time.

Well some like it that way. Not me. I prefer to have all the tools to play with. I'm not against earning credits to buy stuff though.

Organising a league with certain cars could prove problematic.

Why on earth would anyone do that? I don't understand the logic.

Cause I was going to sell my PS3 months ago and I restored it to factory settings. ;) Seriously, this is fun though. I'm enjoying all the licenses and stuff again.

I think people have to understand that DLC does not determine the life of the game.
Adding DLC does more than likely extend the life of the game a little for some people but for the most and the true fans they will still love it and play it until the next one comes out. Even if they don't play it daily the game is still something that they enjoy and will come back to play.

There have been times in its year and a half since release where I have got slightly bored of playing it but I still put the game in to play because its such a great game.
Like I said in my previous post the game will only die for you as a person if you let it, the game itself will still be played by others.
I have the original Call of Duty sitting at home and I occasionally put that on on the PC and there are still servers full of people playing. That game is really old and it is still going well.

Good post. I agree with you, and all I'll say is that dlc is welcome (tracks, anyway) because they add to a game that I would still enjoy playing regardless of dlc.
Furthermore, with car games it's not about what it takes to "complete" them.
If all you're doing is trying to get to 100%, then you're missing the point of a racing game imo.
I'd wager a large proportion of the "grinders" have long since stopped playing for fun (if they ever did).

Wow that was well put Mr. Sinbad.

I will love the game regardless, however I have to admit when Kaz and PD add content every so often it does keep things fresh and exciting. I makes the game feel like it did when I brought home after I preordered it. A few years ago. :-)

Things only 'die' when the person playing them 'kills' them, mostly metaphorically, but sometimes physically. GT5 players 'kill' GT5 in their minds because they're bored with it. It itself isn't dead, but it is to the player. Now, when PD decides to pull the plug on all of the servers running GT5 online, as well as dropping further support in the form of patches and DLC. Only when both are true would it be considered dead.

GT5 is only dead when both the players and PD 'kill' it.

I agree with you there that DLC is welcome, any DLC that is produced then I will buy. I have done the same with many games down the years of PS3 like GRID, Dirt 2, Dirt 3 & MW2. I have bought all the DLC for all these games because I enjoy them (well MW2 not so much but I enjoyed playing it with my mates).
My long term aim of the game is to get the platinum but even once I get that I wont stop playing it.

I haven't deleted my A Spec level 40 game. There are just way too many cars in there that I enjoy driving/have yet to drive. :) I was just saying that maybe some people get a kick out of starting from scratch again.

Every now & again I do a bit on my one sub account & do things very differently as to how I did them first time 'round. (Less impulsive.) By buying the right cars & doing the races in a different sequence, I progress in a helluva more efficient way than before. Hindsight is a wonderful thing...

I have several PS3 accounts and I have started again on one of them but 99% of my GT5 time is on my main account as I am close to finishing.

👍

Actually,...

I have several PS3 accounts and I have started again on one of them but 99% of my GT5 time is on my main account as I am close to finishing.
That's what I did too.

GT5 is gasping for air!!! It's barely holding on. I play it daily but I still think that this iteration of the GT franchise has advanced as far as it will go. I STILL LOVE THIS GAME. I can't wait for GT6.

I agree with this, So before the flaming starts I will point out to the diehard fanboys I only have lv40 aspec to reach im lv39 at present.

I have all the cars minus 2, 1 being the Subaru Impreza Touring Car which being a standard I have to wait for it to refresh in the UCD or OCD - Serious oversight by PD, And the X2010 for golding the batman car challenge which I refuse to do on a DS3 - Another oversight by PD.

So yeah basically I've run out of things to do with GT5, Lets all hope PD ups their game considerably by the time GT6 is released (With a livery creator that will seriously prolong the life of the next iteration of the series)

Just my two cents if that is the correct term.

I wouldn't say it is over, but it is due for a big refresh. The only reason I still play is my league racing, and to log in every other day to keep my 200% alive for seasonals (of which the latest one is awesome).

To the member who said it is 'doing the same thing over and over again', I say welcome to any game. You can go all the way back to the original Sonic, MULE, Loderunner, etc. and it is a rinse & repeat situation regardless of the type of game you play ;)

Afterall, this Gran Turismo is the first with a proper Online gaming, now if only we'd have the option to create custom made championship races 5-10 tracks in a row it would be more than interesting.
Online is still full of people playing this, and I personally believe that many will still buy this game.
DLC is only a bonus, shouldnt be the only reason to return to the game, otherwise, why even bother if you have bored with it already, why spent any coins into it if the game itself does not interest anymore ?
