this was done to me as I was trying to pass for the finish line on the rome circuit. I thought it was kind a dirty. But I remembered seeing it in done in RL by the pro's

Depends what you mean - if they push you into contact with the wall, then no it shouldn't be allowed - if it's just squeezing you towards the wall to try and make you "chicken" out of the move, then it's fine. (imo)

I would rather win clean, rather then win at all costs. It's not like you gain god like status for an online win, but hey, everyone is different.

Someone did this to me at the Circuit de la Sarthe. Main straight. He came off worse. I got a message come through on the chat afterwards saying I was a "Jew". I'm not sure if this was a compliment.

Doesn't sound to be in the racing spirit. As above, I wouldn't do this to someone else.

Sounds like some mindless juvenile that needs to learn the meaning of the words respect and fair.

Schumacher got a penalization for this, it's not a clean manouver.
And I wonder why PD refuse to add flag rules into the game. That is a REAL thing for a "Real Driving Simulator" so why don't use it?

well unfortunately with f1 rules, these kind of penalizations depends by the stewards and their ideas of what is right and what is worng. But we have to say, recently, contacts and dirty manouvres get more penalized than back in the days. Plus if a driver decide to spank another one he seriusly risk to damage his car, I suggest everyone to drive with the maximum ammount of damage in the game, dirty and not skilled drivers will crash into the wall.

I say it's cool in this game because that seems to be exactly the sort of thing the AI have been programmed to do and it seems the developers of the game intended it to be this way

Ask Rubens Baricello.

I think there is a fine line between defending your position and forcing someone off the road. I also don't think there's anything wrong with some contact either, just watch touring car races from anywhere in the world. It's when you try and force a person off the track or into a wall that it becomes unsporting because then it gets dangerous.

Senna used to go for the inside gap around corners and most of the time the other driver would back down and he'd get past, or the other driver wouldn't back down and they'd both end up off the track.

If you can intimidate another driver to back down, then mentally, they're beaten. People have criticised Senna for doing it but I don't think its bad sportsmanship. A driver who let Senna get into that position knew what was coming and Senna had the balls to never back down. If there was half a gap he'd go for it. Like he said, thats what racing is about.

It's OK to make one move to defend the line into the upcoming corner, but its not ok to weave around preventing a blatantly faster car from passing, its also not OK to pit another car or rub it gently so it goes into a barrier.

Cheating heading up to the finish line is terrible!

In my book if they are beside you, you can give them a choice between going on the grass or backing down but you must never force someone to crash.

If they're already next to you putting someone in the grass or back off is not ok in my book. They're already next to you, so you did something wrong apparently.

In a word NO. It is dirty racing. The only time I would deem this as ok would be if you are racing with a group who like to do that sort of thing and expect it or the person you are squeezing has been racing dirty doing these things to you. The latter case is still not really ok but understandable.

If someone clearly has the speed in me I will let them pass on a straight. If however we a negotiating some bends I will keep to the optimum line and let them find away to pass.

It depends. If someone is overtaking at a corner and there is a lot of run-off, he can use the full track forcing the other person off. They can also move once along the straight and it can't be at the last minute.

The real problem for me actually comes in the first lap. I race completely clean trying to avoid crashing at all costs but when mechanical damage is on, people tend to crash into me on the first lap, from then on I'm usually limping through the whole race trying to maintain the car on asphalt.

It's a horrible habit of mine that I've had since playing GT3 at about 6 or 7 years old - I don't think it's right, yet when I'm put in a position where if I don't do it, I won't win, I knock them into the wall... this is why I don't play online though, I wouldn't like to ruin someone else's race.
