Is it possible to get gold in all licenses using the Sixaxis/DualShock?

Ive gotten Golds on all licenses with the DS3 however i did have to change the button set-up to where R2 was the accelerator and L2 was brake. It is much easier to "feather" the gas with the R2 button than the "X" button. Even got a Gold on the Eiger test in Grand Tour with the DS3 controller though it took around 5 hours of trying:tup:

I got all gold on National B & A classes with a DS3. It's all about smoothness. If you are still using X and square, I doubt you'll gold them. Try switching gas and brake to R2 and L2. Another quick tip is if you know your going to fail, restart.
Wrong :sly:..lol...
Yes, indeed :)

I worked through at first with 30/30/0 or so (making sure I achieve Silver at minimum) and I'm now up to 49 Golds, the last 11 are spread across IC/B and A. I've not used the triggers or sticks anywhere. I have had the usual thing where you're a fraction outside the time and keeping at it won't get you anywhere, I find the best thing to do is to come back to it on another day, its always possible.

ps. are nested quotes disabled here? I had to do it manualy

I just cannot get a couple of them. Currently on about 48/8/4. The FR slalom is doing my head in.

Yeah, I've golded them all (using × and square, not R2 and L2). Some were close (2 were bang on the gold time), others less so (.5s under on the rally ones)
I did find that I'd get stuck a few tenths shy for a while, then find a ton of time from somewhere, and still end up milliseconds short :P

I'm also on my way to getting al gold special events. Done karting, NASCAR, TG, and rally, one away on Loeb and Grand Tour, two away on AMG.

So yeah, the game's still doable with DS3, hard in places though.

I got all gold, just with the normal Sixaxis. Almost never did anything about the setting either, unless on a very rare occasion once or twice, but can't remember properly which one (might've been the Fairlady double hairpin). Oh, I usually drive in 3rd person from behind the car, but in some instances I used bumper view, which helped me greatly.
Toyota slalom was by far my most difficult one to pass.

I use the dual shock and I have all gold up to I-B

I have 57 gold with the DS3... that one was one of the more difficult ones. Two things:

1. Try to perfect using the X button with varying amounts of throttle, not on or off. If you are able to modulate between about 1/3 and 1/2 throttle smoothly, you will be able to get it.
2. Don't look at the cones as if you are trying to get in between the inner and outer cones... visualize only the middle cones in a straight line (or in other words, pretend the outside cones are not there in your mind's eye).

You will definitely have a hard time if you use the D-pad, but I've gotten full gold on the first four licenses(havnt bothered with the others, got bored, and realized how pointless the effort was.) Using the Thumbstick.

I use the left thumbstick for steering, Right thumbstick for looking around. Shoulder Buttons (L2,R2) for Braking(L2) and Accelerating(R2) which allow you to give the amount of brake and gas you desire. Square for RA Menu, and D-pad to Navigate the RA Menu.

Having L2 for Brake is great when you get an Itchy nose. haha

I got all gold with a ds3 controller default button config. I use the dpad to steer not the analog stick. My fingers hurt so bad after i finished them. Like the little easy tests where you have to maintain speed by feathering the gas get frustrating compared to if you had a wheel where you can control it perfectly. The licenses in this game are not that hard just require time to get it right.

I got all golds a night ago, always using both analogue sticks rather than the D-pad. The S License is a joke in this game, while the shorter tests fom B to IC can be very difficult. Some of the special condition events, however, seem to be nigh on impossible (Eg., Eiger in the Loeb challenge, AMG academy second-last event for each difficulty).

I managed to pull off a Silver in the first World Tour race. But you are right, that Alfa is a PAIN IN THE ASS to steer with the controller. I agree that Gold would be near-impossible.

lmao i got gold first try on the gt world tour with that hurtin alfa, gotta slow down hard before the corners and try hard not to drift.

It's hard with the controller, specially on the NASCAR school Intermediate! Glad I have a g27!

No not really. Took me awhile just to get gold and receive my prize from it.

Yeah it can be done I got all 60 license gold with my six axis although a few of them did take a few tries to do it

Only half way through IA and have golded A, B, IC, and IB, with the DS3.

I don't anticipate not being able to Gold them all.

I golded them using X and square.. took me a few hours but i did it and im planing to gold the rest to.. at least try

None of the buttons give any decent degree of being able to fully control the throttle perfectly.

Use the right analougue stick for accel/brake for great throttle and braking control.

I have completed all 60 in gold with DS3.

It's a pain in the * ...
Terrible precision from the analog stick + input lag from an lcd screen makes it hit and miss.

It's just get the basics right then trial and error till you get gold , hardly any fun if you aren't able to be consistent.

DS3 only.

I still only have 40 gold and 20 silver ( although I didn't try to gold some more in the last 2 weeks ).
Anyway, did the Eiger Loeb challenge on first try ( or let's say first finish, bumped into the invisible walls a few times ). Just make sure to set ALL assistent programs ( apart from ABS ) to 0 in each event ( Although i have them set to 0 in my personal settings, some assistent programs were active, which made proper rally drifting impossible ) Then it's a walk in the park for a guy like you, who unlike me, did all licences on gold.
Just race the car really hard, push it, no need to drive carefully. Did it yesterday, I remember having a 1.21 at the exit of the hairpin, at least I think so. Did it by a second, wasn't that great in the last third of the track, since I drove it the first time ever.
AMG Acadamy. I used the default setting of the cars, and again, drive the car harder than on other licence tests. The Nordschleife requires an agressive aproach, use the curbs, try to find a smooth line and beat the Benz to death ;-)

Also I noticed that the racing line GT offers is way off sometimes in some events, rally and AMG for example. Sometimes you can easily go at full throttle in red zones for a fe seconds, and you have to in order to get gold.

Speaking of gold and Loeb challenge, I am having a problem to gold the snow level. Hell, I even needed 3 full attempts for bronze.
I remember also having had a few problems to gold the snow rally licence test, but I did it in the end ( had to eliminate some of my drifting, replaced it with slow driving, which doesn't suit my driving style, but improved my time ). The Loeb challenge in Charmonix seems just as hard, but for 4 min instead of like 1.30. Pretty tough for me at least.
I have the impression, that my personal style is agressive and hard driving, which makes some licences and tests extremly easy, others which require patient and careful driving all the harder.
In a more positive light I might say that I am more of a Hamilton than a Button. ;)

Anyway, good luck for the special events mentioned above, I'm not the best driver out there, if I could do it, you can aswell.

Your kidding right?

The analogue stick is perfectly precise, I get as much throttle or braking exactly when and how much i want. No lag or no dead zone.

LCD screen lag????

Sorry buddy but none of it is making any sense

Okay... so I'm currently stuck at 57Golds here. Was trying to get gold for the S-8 license and I got stuck there for like an hour and gave up. Will be trying again tomorrow, and hopefully that is when I can get all 60 Golds! :D

have 45 golds rest silver.... controller FTW! until i get my wheel later this week!

It can be done. So far, using the controller, I got the 60 license tests golded, as well as every challenge there is except the 8C Competizione, Focus WRC and Lamborghini at night on Grand Tour. (I don't have the Red Bull Challenge so I can't talk about that one yet), but other than that, it can definitely be done.

First on topic: for the rally events/licences try putting your LSD to 65-35 front rear instead of the baseline 70-30, gives you more grip when accelerating out of a corner without getting any noticable understeer, makes getting gold alot easier.

Yeah because a whole 45 degrees of movement to either side is precise, especially with a 1 cm long lever to decide the angle. :dunce:

Lcd tv's have input lag, anywhere from 15ms (negligable) upto a whopping 90ms depending on what make and quality.
Cheap lcd monitors for pc do aswell, but for the plebs the marketing teams put '2 ms response time '(time for a pixel to go from off to a color and back, which is an entirely different thing) on the box and conveniently fail to mention the long input latency of their cheap tft panels.

My older gen lcd tv has 50 ms input lag + a controller input lag of 66 ms (66 for gt5, it's present in all ps/xbox games, some games that run at 30 fps have as much as 115 ms input lag, go look it up on eurogamer/digitalfoundry), added up for a total of 117 milliseconds (0.117 seconds) of delay between you seeing something happen onscreen and your input affecting the game. (not counting reaction time obviously).

117 ms is an eternity in first person shooter games, and its a bloody long time in a fairly difficult 'sim' game too.

The game is very much playable, but the latency makes things feel more sluggish/less intuitive.

I know it's a hard sell to console kiddies that are used to playing tha call of doodies with their leet controllers while screaming 'controller is as gud as mouse' :sly:

Long story short : I can get by, that doesn't mean I'd not rather have more responsive and accurate controls.

Just a bonus fun fact for giggles: while you are playing gt5 in '1080p' (1280x1080 , but i'm not picking on gt here) , unless you are playing the game on a 2000+ dollar pioneer kuro tv or a very recent high end panel, you are actually looking at a motion resolution of 700 ish lines instead of 1080, and as low as 55x if you're using a cheap LG lcd tv.
HD gaming at its best.

One more fun tidbit: mw2 connection status: 3 bars = 250 ms, +100 ms controller lag (30 fps , 3 frames of delay) + 15-90 ms tv input lag = 365-440 ms latency , if you ever played cs 1.5 , ut or quake 3 you'll know what that means ;D

I'm done ragging on inferior technology now, sorry mods.

Ok, the thing is : Everybody has to deal with input lag and all you mentioned.
So I still win my games with 3 bars in COD against people with 4 bars, and there are people who have gold on all licences with a DS3 and a 100ms input lag LCD.
If it was mouse+pc+inpulagfree monitor against console, well yes, then I see the disadvantage you talk of, but not if everybody shares about the same technology.
You have to adapt to the circumstances - I played a lot of PC shooters, yet I can tell you : a skilled gamer with a feel for tactics and gameplay strategies wins on all systems. I even prefer playing shooters on the 360 over the PC, I don't see that huge gap between my Logitech G9 and my wired 360 pad. I mean sure, I die a few deaths because of p2p and my not so great internet connection. But at the end of the day my stats are good enough for constant top 3 positions and I hit my targets despite not playing with a mouse.
Just like a good race driver I win races in F1 and the VW Lupo Cup. You know, because the Lupo races againbst other Lupos and not against a F1 car.

So while you are right, I still suggest to accept the fact that all players in shooters and GT5 share pretty much the same technical issues. So do I, yet you don't hear me complaining, improve your gameplay and compensate those problems as good as you can or better than others.

i got all gold in A,B, and S. i haven't messed too much with the other licenses. i use the normal ps3 controller, but I *always* use the joystick.

Got gold on all the the license test with my sixaxis controller about 3 days after gt5 was launched. As for the special events, I got all gold pretty easily except I'm stuck on Gand tour Eiger with a silver and two silvers in Amg driving school. I need help badly and I don't know what to do. :( I wonder what it's like with a wheel since I had never owned one yet.

Difficult due to lack of smoothness in steering (I use the D-Pad) and you get less throttle control with the x button (pressure sensitive, but not much of a gradient). Still all golds on GT3 & GT4, haven't bothered with the license much in this one, about half gold, haven't touched the S-License yet.

First of all talking about the controller is not off topic like you have highlighted as if to say i have dragged this thread off topic :dunce:

You are completely and utterly missing the point....:dunce:

Entirely....:dunce:

The analougue stick allows you to hold the throttle/brake precisely where you want it the X or Square button cannot be used as easily for any sort of throttle/brake control.:dunce:

So as a part of the controller its the best most precise, most accurate part to use of a DS3 for accel/braking, the triggers are only a normal button with a little spring to slow down the pressure applied to the reciever pad. :dunce:

E.G. Do you understand how easy it is to dictate how much throttle to use from a standing start with said controls compared to buttons.

:dunce:
:dunce:
:dunce:

Secondly this LCD lag you speak of, which has never affected me in the slightest in any game i have ever played.

It will be evident among every single LCD user therefore nothing to be concerned about.

One thing you dont mention is the users brain which also varies, reaction times are a lot to answer for in gaming not your set up.

Forgot to mention I felt the GT5 license tests were for the most part easier than previous iterations.

I wonder what it's like with a wheel since I had never owned one yet.

How the transition from controller to wheel feels like? First it is absolute hell but when you finally get used to it there is absolutely no return :D
