Is it true? Gear ratios

Also, I bought fully custon tranny,

my car is 5 speed stock, but the gear ratio's show a 6th gear! I cannot shift into 6th gear!

So I had to bump the gear ratio final to use 5th as final so bogged down on the start!

What the hell is with this game? Its so un-polished!

Part of DRIVING and RACING is the CAR ITSELF. Being able to SET THE CAR UP IN DETAIL is CRUCIAL, and has been AN INTEGRAL PART OF GRAN TURISMO SINCE 1997.

Anybody who says "it's not a tuning simulator, it's a driving simulator" is full of ish. A lack of customization is one thing, but a lack of key tuning elements is inexcusable. That's actually a deal breaker for me, because that's all I do with GT: buy favorite cars and play with the tuning, making and breaking lap records. GT4 is pretty decent with that but was also somewhat limited; at least being able to tweak gearing precisely was there, that can affect the performance of many cars alone in a significant way.

I REALLY hope they fix this.

WHAT???????? why even buy the custom tranny?

I'm really glad I didn't sell prologue. Tuning and tweaking was my favorite part of the game. It was so much fun to experiment and improve lap times.

I really hope this was just a pushed out beta release which they will fix with time.

I just found this out today, really changed my outlook on how to spend my money on upgrades.

I have stopped playing the game completely until I have an answer to this - if its removed from the game I will just sell the game and maybe get it latter if its patched latter

*facepalm*
Sorta makes the real racing simulator feel less real.

It feels less real because you cant change the gear ratios? Ahm, ok...

MAYBE we have to unlock the option to change them seperately, just like in prologue?!

The UI is too good for it only to allow the adjust of top speed. You can clearly see the cogs(?) for adjusting each item. Maybe you have to be a certain level to unlock this.

I'm Level 22 and I still cant change individual ratios its beyond pathetic

this game is starting to look like nfs.. not much customization with the engine, aerodynamics, weight, EVEN GEAR RATIOS! come on! is this final? or will they still do something about this? if you guys go to gear ratios, click on the yellow manual button.. it will say something about "beginners not beibng able to adjust each gear, try setting the top speed first"

what is that about?

- Custom 'boxes do make a difference though. For instance, I'm a big Caterham fan so an early purchase was the 7 Fireblade. When I drove it I was mortified - the stock gearbox is daft, it does over 100mph in second and first is so long that it can't get off the line or round a tight corner without completely bogging down. What's that all about? The real car has a close ratio box - essential for using a small engine that revs to 11000 rpm.

I fitted the fully customisable box and dragged the final drive down a bit, and the problem is basically solved, it now has a normal fist gear that tops out around 40mph and you can get into 5th on a nowmal straight, whereas you never get out of 3rd with the standard box.

So, lack of selctable individula ratios is annoying, and I hope they patch it, but the options that are already there can make an unusable car perfectly usable...

- Agreed. If your game is chasing world class lap times then a gearbox that it fully tailored to the circuit you're on is essential. It's weird this game - I love it in general, but some of the holes in the 'complete racing' philosophy are baffling. I hate to say it but Forza II (I've not played 3) is a far more complete tuning simulator. I heard that Forza III had all gone a bit arcady...

I did that in GT4 a lot once i had completed it for the 3rd time. Got bored and started to get the best lap times i could with certain cars. What i found especially for Nurburgring, it is ESSENTIAL to have every gear custom suited to that track. I remember my final gear especially, i only managed to get into it on the back straight, when i used NOS.

Ah and X2010 got a fully modifiable transmission but you can't change the top speed as well as individual...
