Road/circuit racing in PP limited rooms online is my favourite kind of racing. A few months ago, it seemed you could log on and have your pick of 2 or 3 dozen rooms with various PP and tire restrictions. Lately I've noticed there are much fewer PP limited rooms and a ton of drag racing rooms and rooms with no limitations. Even Nascar, which had a couple of dozen rooms every night a few months ago, seems to be fading.

Has anyone else noticed this trend? If so, why do you think it is? Do you think it's because of the quality of racing in online lobbies, the whole "crash my way to the front" philosophy a lot of guys seem to have? Maybe it's so difficult to tune and/or be competitive a lot of guys get discouraged?

Racing in equal cars against drivers from around the world is what I really wanted from GT5 and it seems to me, if the current trends keep up, that's going the way of the Dodo bird, or the balanced government budget, never to be seen again.

dont race much in open lobbies, so not sure. but I race in private lobbies alot and there is always good racing to be had night after night

Noticed the decline in activity on my friends list too. Seemed I could just scroll through and find two or three people in Lobbies doing races. Now it's either league races or nothing. Which I love the leagues. Best place to get like minded clean racers.

Since the decline and slight boredom. I resorted to honing COD skills back in. New one to be released. Was gonna skip it. However with this GT5 activity trend. I probably buy it. I have several family members that play COD nightly too. Nice interacting with them. Done so for yrs waiting on GT5. Then totally abandoned them last November. :)

Here is hoping spec 2.0 brings some fuel for the fire that is GT5 online.

I dont race online much but I tried to recently.

I assumed there where a number of PP rooms with sports softs or 600pp with racing hards etc

If I found a PP room everyone had racing softs and most had skid recovery on too. I think I may just have to create my own room in the future.

Most hosts ive encountered dont communicate well either, if you increase the PP limit and allow racing tyres please tell us. Not everyone notices.

You can limit your search to rooms without skid recovery...that's a worthwhile exercise and most rooms with skid recovery tend to be full of inexperienced drivers so I avoid them for that reason.

If I limit to SRF off theres a lot less lobbies to choose from. Most hosts dont set many restrictions it seems.

I noticed that as well, maybe people are waiting for Spec 2.0? Maybe the "Expanded online lounge features (narrowing down car types, shuffle races…)" that is supposed to be coming with Spec 2.0(even though we know next to nothing about what exactly will change online) will bring more people back and improve the online play of GT5? I guess we'll have to wait and see..

I dont place a restrictions on my room but on individual races. I do mixed racing once a week and always end up with a full/nearly full room too. I kick morons instantly and make sure I behave properly on track. We race JTC, DTM, shuffles, nascar, FGT's and road cars. All races have different restrictions so I am wary of labelling room anything other than Clean Mixed Racing. When we have a good crowd and have raced our hearts out we shift to some fun races. Normally dirty nascar, cat and mouse, football or fugitive on nurburg.
We have lost a few people to F2011 but its still great racing online for me :)

Stop going in open lobbies. Join my Group-B league :)

Or any league on this forum for that matter. Honestly best move you'll ever make. GTP has rules against the things that make open lobbies lame.

Happened to RacePro for me, loved the game.

Anyway I bought the ps3 just for gt5 and have a small friends list. I like to race on line and it can be hard lately finding a good match for me. I like realistic match ups especially the super gt races. Im not the fastest but like to race clean.

If anyone would like to add Me to
their friends list.

Thanks

Nope, not even close. I refuse to race in open lobbies (except for a few friend exceptions) and whenever I can organize one, I have great racing in private lobbies.

thats because online sucks

I've been having trouble finding rooms as well. I usually just wind up in a shuffle room lately, as I can't find any rooms with proper restrictions, or ones that aren't using racing softs.

I use to race online but for some unknown reason I stopped playing online, like cruising in free run lobbies, not much of a serious racer

Link?

Why are lobbies decreasing? Answers: School. 👎

Most players I've met are in their teens so this would explain a large drop.

same problem here, cannot find enough cruise and free run lobbys anymore:( ..... hope ppl get back for spec 2
don't let gran turismo die !!!

I raced in open lobbies a lot when I first got the game. Then I joined a weekly series, then another, and next thing you know 4 nights out of the week I was racing in leagues. To me, online racing in GT5 is best when you race with the same people week in and out. It builds camaraderie and you don't have to worry about being knocked off the track in the first turn first lap. If anyone cannot find the rooms they want in the open lobbies, my advice is to seek out any racing series on this site to join an organized league.

I clicked open lounge today and picked a room hosted by this greek guy (think his name was Spilla or something). It was 400-600pp around the Rome circuit, with the pp limit being changed every now and then to different values between 400 and 600.
Anyhow, I spent ages on there today racing and had so much fun, even though there was a huge gap all the time between racers (like 10 racers, 3 battling far out in front, 5 in the middle about 10secs behind, and then a few stragglers). Mechanical damage was on, you got penalised for hitting other drivers too hard, and I used a different car every race even if the pp limit stayed the same, mainly to see which one was fastest. We got 3 minutes tuning and free run time until the race started again and it made it very hit and hope with setups with such little testing time (found out 170mph top end gearing was best for me lol). Just thought I'd share this as I rarely go online and had so much fun.

Things come in waves. First it was limited racing. Then it was Nascar, then drag racing. Now Drag, Drift, and Nascar are all I really see. Even those few "whatever" rooms are gone.

I got tired of getting kicked and can't seem to find a room with at least 4 people.
I hate using production cars so it's even harder to find race mod rooms.

personally i wished PD handled the online like they did with Prologue. Where they set up like 5 different race events limiting the cars and tracks and then changed it every week. I loved prologue's online because it was just so easy to just jump in and race without having to constantly set up new cars for new room rules.

It's only natural that the online is becoming less and less crowded. Most people online only play certain game while the novelty lasts, then, as time passes, and new games are released they switch to those newer games.

in open lobbies with pp restrictions its hard to get over 4 people in a room it gets really annoying when your looking for a good clean room to race in. If anybody wants ever wants to race im on everyday looking for a great room my psn is MAC_ATTACK91 send me a friend request

Weird world. I do remember hearing... human beings are impatient, especially Americans? (Not to be racist, I'm an American myself after all)

I guess it's the loyal GT fans who are left. :sly: I guess that's good.

A 'couple months ago' everyone was on summer break

everyone is back in school now. less people playing = less servers

try opening up the region to all. i frequently play on Japanese/aus/ger servers. no lag

only downside is you cant communicate with them. but if all youre doing is pp racing, who cares.

Open lobbies are mainly comprise of gamers and like most gamers, they tend to gravitate towards the latest game on the market. GT5 or any racing sim for that matter, can't even begin to compete against barrage of mainstream FPSers especially almost one year after its release.

No great loss anyway especially when you're already on site like GTP- check out the private races/leagues. You might also want to check out GT5's official forum for great TT competition:

US GT5 racing/events forum:. http://tiny.cc/wgke0

Be willing to invest some time- if you're really into finding good races- to find ones that suit your racing need.

You need to learn what "racist" truly means.

Anyway, things will pickup with the big update...

I don't think it really is, or I haven't really noticed either.
