Is PS4 really worth it?

Ehh, I don't even know if I'll buy a PS4 if and when the time comes. I spent so much money on my PS3 for games and accessories why would I wanna buy a PS4? I must have a good 15 games between the PS store and actual discs. On top of this I spent however much the official Bluetooth mic is plus I paid for two new controllers and I just spent $300 on a 320GB model not to long ago. Am I the only one who thinks about it like this?

Plus the PS3 is perfectly fine, I don't see a need for a new console.

There'd be backwards compatibility, not to mention an integration of PSN on the PS4, I see no reason why they'd design it in a way that doesn't allow you to log in with your current PSN account, all your PSN content, etc.

Besides, you're looking at a least a couple of years away and I think by then we'll be needing the next gen. PS3 is showing it's age and in a couple of years, most of the tech will be 10 years old (particularly with the wi-fi, 802.11n has been out for 2-3 years now).

Bigger hard drive, more RAM (it already had a pathetic amount), etc.

I look forward to the PS4, the PS3 is a long way from being dead, just showing its age in parts.
 
How about rather having a new console, they just upgrade the PS3 with new specs every so often. Life would be much easier on consumers.

And how would this work? Those using older hardware would still eventually be left behind and have to purchase a new box entirely, and then it is effectively a new console.

Like, I'm not really sure what you are getting at here. It isn't like the consumer can just upgrade parts of the PS3 at home to scale with improvements.

Seriously Guys Chellax :D .I always wanted that Our PS3 get a RAM Upgrade but like what was Posted above Can't Happen.

I think PS3 is enough, what else could they possibly add to the PS4. Since the PS3 we've already had access to online store and the ability to play online. IMO PS4 is just another chance to empty peoples pockets. Sorry if you think this is stupid.

Well your logic is flawed, but I wouldn't call it stupid.

It actually costs the console manufacturers and the game industry as a whole a lot of money to release 1+ consoles on the market, usually there's a lot of upskilling involved for development of the new titles, all the 3rd party accessories need to be stopped and redone for the new console, and all the old games and consoles are suddenly much less valuable.

Having all that in mind, Sony and Microsoft were bruised quite badly from the last release, which is why they are stubborn to change to a new console, they want to see a 'good' return from their investments, hence the 10 year mutual agreement not to release a new console (its not official, but if they halt development of a new console for 10 years, the profits from the games will eventually be worth it).

The PS3 is extremely old, yes it has full HD, but several games lag (Dark Souls, GT5, ect), the 2xBlu-ray drive is a joke, and its extremely selfish of Sony/Playstation to not release another console at this stage.

If they released one, you wouldn't have to buy it, but many people would, and would be glad to (assuming any good launch titles existed), because this generation is done, its last generation already, and some of us are sick of it.

You have a point, but there's nothing wrong with wondering what's ahead for gaming. The PS3 is getting old fast, just look at the bugs we are experiencing in GT5 at the moment while there's no evidence about it I'm pretty convinced it is a hardware problem. Whenever the glitch shows itself it acts exactly like an overloaded PC does.

That would be a good idea but it would just create too much trouble from parents acusing Sony of forcing them to buy new components. It just won't happen.
 
Really? Are we down to this? "is the PS4 really worth it?". There is no PS4 right now!! I want Sony to add a feature to the next firmware that electro-shocks someone when they say "PS4", as a form of aversion therapy.

The PS3 did for a while. I remember going to Blockbuster and seeing it on the shelf at that price. It was $840 for a base 20GB and for a bundle it was $999.

I'm not making this up dude. I know what I saw. Clearly you aren't from these parts so you have no idea what they charge. Just so you are aware, this was in 2007.

What "parts" would that be? Dude, your profile says you're from the US. So unless you're not being truthful as to your location, you ARE making this up. Anyone can go to any library across this great land of ours, from sea to shining sea, look up a Best Buy ad from 2007, and see that there's no way in hell that the PS3 cost $999, or $840. In fact, by 2007 Sony had cut the price a hundred bucks. The introductory price was $599. So you are indeed making 🤬 up. And if that's what you saw, then you need your eyes checked.
 
Of course PS4 is required. With new generation of graphics chip, more and faster memory and processing power. Games can become more realistic and immersive.

For example GT7 or GT6 on PS4 we can have 32 cars, realitic weather effects and damage model and amazing graphics

It's not so much the account as I'm sure that'll carry over it's just all the crap I paid for. PS2 games don't work on a PS3 and I doubt PS3 games will work on a PS4. I hope they do though. I imagine the mic and wheel'll be compatible with a PS4 though.

Every console where it has been tried (TurboGrafx-16, Genny, N64, Saturn) was designed to allow it from the start (which, as far as I'm aware, the PS3 is not), and the only ones that weren't basically a failure outside of Japan was the N64 (which was bundled with the highest profile games that used it).


All hardware expansion does is fracture the marketplace for the console it is tried on, making it harder for said console to compete effectively with the ones by other companies because developers aren't sure whether to develop games to the new abilities or the bigger audience.

Imagine GT5 with full AA, no more flickering, HD smoke, particles and shadows = imagine that you actually play with the photomode quality.... just for that the PS4 will be a must buy!

If it was released tomorrow, no.
If it was released in a couple of years time,yes.

Yes being, serious improvement in graphics, online capability, hard drive size etc. The next batch of consoles will have to be able to cater for downloadable and/or cloud gaming, integration into home viewing and so on. Current consoles are still keeping in touch with demands put on them and all the time they provide, there will be not immediate need to go 'next gen'.

A bundle here had 2 controllers, 3 games, the system, 4 accessories of choice. So what. I remember clear as day because I looked into getting one. This was Blockbusters price. 2 controllers, lets see thats 100. 3 games, thers 150. 4 accessories could be anywhere from 200 to 400 bucks. The system itself was 599. So, yeah. Don't tell me that I'm lying unless you can somehow go back in time an dissapprove me, and I know for a fact you can't because I clearly know what I saw. I don't make up prices.

See, thats not the system selling for 1000. That is a specific retailers bundle.
You may have seen systems going for 1000 but again, not the system alone.

MAP and MSRP were set by sony at 499 and 599 ( or was it 599/699).

Ok I see where you going with this now. Bad on my part and I apologize for the confusion. The system wasn't being sold here at the time without being bundled with something else.
 
Glad you figured out where you were going with this... straight towards hot coals. The most expensive systems at launch was the Xbox at $699.
