Is the formula GT championship hard?

Not too difficult, but what the hell is the AI doing at the 'Ring? Almost every lap on the chicane, the majority of them spin.

After I finished and won the championship, I went back to just do this race and see what he AI's were doing. What is even funnier than them all crashing after the chicane, they all still manage to get back in the pack.

Do a couple of laps first and know what gearing to run. Some of the courses will require different gearing.

I managed silver in the championship with a DS3. It takes a lot of concentration I found, as the races are long. At some point I'll give it another go with my DF. <-- (yes DF, not DFGT... old school!)

The short answer would be yes, the FGT races are difficult, probably the most difficult race of all just because you can't use a better car, the races are long and you have to concentrate pretty hard.

That said, you can use aids. These make it much easier, though I'd just use TCS, SRF and ABS (as usual). ASM and active steering, I'm not so sure. I managed to win the first race back in December while I was suffering from the flu pretty badly, I spun on the last corner of Fuji a good few times but found I couldn't maintain the concentration for 5 more races after that, so I stopped. Then again I was pretty ill, so whatever. I have yet to try again, I'm struggling to find the time at the moment.

Best championship in GT5, by far.
20 laps, 6 tracks while the opposition is 1 second away from you.
You need lots of concentration for this championship and a good setup (also you must get familiar with the FGT before even entering this race).
Just the price car is kinda dissapointing.

I think this is the best set of races on A spec,the A1's brake really early,so you can pick up a lot time by braking later.Use the early laps to really get to know the course,don't panic if you spin out early,20 laps is a long race,by lap 5 you will really know each track.

I bronzed the Vettel challenge in one evening. I cannot for the life of me handle my FGT even with a wheel, the AI hits me from all over the place. I refuse to turn on assists, but I realize my car needs adjustment / tuning. I will come back to this another day. I do appreciate the challenge in this event.

Suzuka is harder than Monaco for me. Best racing series in the game imo.

I won the 1st 5 races with a DS3, got to Suzuka and it was raining, so I quit the championship as 5/6 was enough.

Eventually went back once I got a DFGT & Apiga stand and finished the 2 extreme races (1 nascar & Suzuka FGT) I hadn't golded/done. I struggled at Suzuka at 1st, because I would have a spin and restart. I eventually decided to just keep racing for practice and what I found out is that they AI get a bit slower in the later stages. On lap 15, I spun out making a move for the lead (the early AI braking makes passing tricky) and went back to last, but managed to win the race by a few seconds

Drive the FGT like a Lotus. Brake early and pick up the throttle early, but easy. This will keep the rear in line.

I won all races fairly easy, but didn't even try Monaco. I quit that one at the start line. Didn't need it to win the championship and didn't feel like 20 laps at that medieval cart path in a formula car.

For me it wasn't hard, just tedious. No way to save in midle of the championship and no practice or qualification runs.

When it rains the last two races. Kept getting Silver
But if you can manage to miss the rain on at least 1 of those last 2 you will have a better shot at Gold.
Heres a tip that worked for me but It could have been blind luck:

Start the championship enter every race and then Quit. Advance through all 6 races this way. If it rained on the last two races then there is a good chance the next time you do it will be dry. The idea is to try and trick the game days into giving you a Dry last two races.

I have no prof that this works every time but it worked for me. 👍

i haven't tried the championship yet, but i've golded all the others. in preparation i make sure to win all the events individually first, before starting the championship. you gotta iron out all the mistakes, especially on the FGT championship. one mistake and you'll go 1st to 12th ::snaps:: just like that! which sucks, y'know.

When I first tried this i would get discouraged if I fell to last and restart. Only after committing myself to finish the championship did i realize it's totally possible to catch up even if you don't race perfect. Some of those races I didn't catch up until the last lap. But when it came to Corte `de Azur, thats on a whole other level. If you don't race that one perfect your not catching up. There just isn't enough room.

I still haven't done this yet, too long for my liking. Plus the car is a big handful with stock settings. I have done Fuji and Indy but that's it. I tried Monaco and Nurburgring but on Monaco I couldn't get passes in and on the Nurburgring I just kept on slipping up. Haven't even tried Monza or Suzuka yet...

It was fairly easy. I remember the last 2 races were rain, I drove better in the rain than the AI and got gold on first try.

I only tried the first race and found it so hard (15 tries) to get even 2nd that I didn't bother advancing. I just hate the FGT and can't drive it at all, with or without assists. It's just too touchy and I end up spinning all over the place. If I make it into the lead, I can only manage a half-second lead. But if the AI make it pass me (which they always do) they just walk away with an easy 5 or 6 seconds.

I did the Ferrari challenges though, won by like 15 - 20 seconds. Are those just easy as mess or what?

I found it a bit of a mission in terms of time taken, but easy enough to win.

On my first attempt I won every race except Suzuka. I went back later and finished that one off.

Don't give up on it if you don't make it first attempt. 👍

Hi - my first post! GT5 is my first racing game so my comments are those of a novice driver. I haven't done the championship, but I have now had one go at each of the races and found the results somewhat peculiar. I didn't do any setup or change the tyres. I did the last two races first and it was raining and found them very easy - gold in both. I found I was two or three seconds a lap faster than the game and was in the lead within a corner or two. The dry races I found completely impossible and was lapped twice at Cote Dazur and once at the other tracks.

Is there something wrong with the AI - how can it be so easy to win in the wet (I found it almost impossible not to) and yet be so hard in the dry?

I used the PS3 hand controller because I'm not satisfied yet with the stand I'm making for my DFGT (it has to fold up and go in the cupboard as I don't have room or money for a gaming chair). Any other newbies have a similar experience to me? Tried the Vettel challenge - impossible!

A very tough race. I qualified for it in January and just finished last week. I had to put it down for a while. When I finally did win, each win was by at most three or four seconds on every race. White knuckles the whole way.

Tips:

Get out early and don't let them pass you.
Go to "practice" and try out each course so that you know what gear you should be in, etc.; you don't want any surprises.
Stick with it! In the beginning I would get a few seconds behind and re-start the race -- DON'T. (Unless you are absolutely getting whipped). The competition seems to "settle down" in the middle of the race. If you are in last place by three seconds in lap 10 you could still EASILY win it. Just hang in there.
Again, go to the practice section and try out different tunes, etc.; The first time I won I had on anti-skid and was using (gah!) automatic because I wasn't shifting fast enough.
You will get different opinions on this, but I would (and did) use traction control, which I don't use normally. Sometimes I consider it a "cheat," but when a car has this much horsepower with so little weight and my DS3 throttle is either "off" or "on," I consider it fair.
