I am curious; I am assuming not but am curious because of all the talk about it here. I believe to each their own but with so many complaints about GT5, some being UNREALISTIC DAMAGE, unrealistic tuning, unrealistic graphics on the bottom of the car, some even have gone as far to say unrealistic physics it seems that the game was bought because a lot of people want a sim not arcade yet at the same time a lot of peoples goal is to get the X1 or even more than 1 of them. Now I think GT5 is the greatest thing ever, it's all I play and I just spent over a grand on a wheel and seat for it. I don’t think it is an arcade game at all, I think that car is an arcade car and that was why I was wondering why so many people wanted it.

Because of all the fervor over that car I thought maybe it did exist (I am being serious) because it didn’t make sense to me to put a fake car in a game known for realism. I even went online to see if it did really exist and could drive like that. LOL

But like I said, I am just curious as to peoples reasoning in wanting GT to be a Simulator and at the same time wanting an Arcade car? And I am not trolling here, I am genuinely interested in the thought process. For me if I get one I think it would be cool because I achieved a high level and I might drive it one or twice to see what maybe the future holds but I cant see making it part of my daily GT5 life.

No, Sebastian Vettel said it himself that this car only exists in the world of Gran Turismo.

I can't help but wonder how much time they spent (wasted?) with Red Bull on designing this car, then working out the lawyer speak on who actually owns this idea and benefits from future production/race proceeds. Same with the GT by Citroen.

It's what one of the world's leading F1 designers thinks a F1 car without having to follow regulations would look like. So real car no, but neither cartoon style unrealistic.

Yes, the X1 is a real car.

That's why the in-game car was changed to X2010.

I don't think any of the concepts should be in the game. As I have said before it's easy to have a concept, but these things are never the same once they get build. Some examples, the Silverado Truck Concept, a truck that handles like a supercar, then they build it. It's just another truck. Citroën’s GT, can fly round Daytona Oval at 250MPH constantly and only has one gear and can lap the world's supercars there after only 5 laps! It will never be built because it's impossible. The X1/2010 is pure fantasy that can never be built and is thus of no value in The Real Driving Simulator.

The concept of most race cars is fast acceleration, high top speed and amazing handling. There has to be a trade off and there is usually a flaw, the fun in driving is learning to minimize the flaw while playing to strength.

It seems like there are more concept cards in this one then I remember in past ones I have played, but personally I like them. There is a little bit of that "what if" factor in there, especially for concept cars that didn't make it to production models.

I also think the Citroën GT car just looks really cool, especially in red or black. If it existed and I could afford it, I would get it just to look at. Of course, the prize one I got in game was yellow, and I greatly dislike yellow cars. Almost all my prize cars are yellow. It makes me sad.

Same as the guy above, the X1 is a small crossover/ute made by BMW. The X2010 is not real, but based as if it WERE a real design.

You sure about that? I have the GT race car in game and if I remember right it has 7 gears... at least 6. And the GT road car does actually exist irl...

Cool, do you know what track it will be at next? I think it would be cool to go watch it. I guess I should keep up on these things rather than assuming it didn't exist because it seemed impossible.

he's messing with you, the redbull X1 / x2010 does not exist other than a 1:1 scale model that was made. The X1 he is referring to is a different car all together

The Citroen Road Car was pondered as a design study and almost made it to minor production, but the idea was scrapped. Production total was around 6 cars, fitted with V8's.

Yea, I was just messing back. I figure one smart A$$ deserves another...

Can they make it a real car? Yes.
Can they make it practical for racing? Not with the current tech. The G force will take a toll on the driver. Tires couldn't last long at that speed. Circuit will need to be redesigned for safety purposes. All that good stuff.

The X1 (or X2010 as it's now known) is not an arcade car. The X1/X2010 is what an F1 car built without regulations would be like, so it's completely possible in real life if the human body could handle the speed... which it can't.

I'm talking about the GT Concept from Prologue. I've never bothered with it in GT5, as it's not real. Why would fictional cars be in a "driving simulator"?

My issue is, with real physical cars, they can drive them and accurately model how the car feels, measure it's cross sectional pressure on it's tires, do real measurements. With a car that is fiction, where are they getting the data? Just asking some guy from the car company who is in PR mode and lists how it can take corners at 250MPH?

It's supposed to be a simulator and the X-1 is fantasy. Why not put in other fictional cars? Back to the Future DeLorean! finish the race 2 years before it starts!

Its all done by calculations and i guess there reference is from the FGT and the Ferrari F1 cars in the game, plus the few they have made, then they just go from there with regards to how it should perform.

Enter enough data into a computer and it will provide a pretty good simulation.

It's a prototype car of which there are a few in the game. It's not like the car isn't based on real technologies, concepts and physics. Do you not play any of the tracks PD made up because they aren't real as well?

Yes it is real. My Grandpa Mike has one in his garage. And sometimes, if i'm lucky enough he lets me drive it to school.

I'm fine with a fictional tracks, unless they get too fictional where we drive upside down and do loops or corkscrews.

From what I can gather the X-1 it a lump of plastic, it has no engine at all right now. There will never be a real X-1 as spec-ed out in GT5, it just isn't going to happen and thus is not a real car.

At least some of the concepts made it into production with much more realistic specs, the X-1 will never be anything more that a bunch of OTT specs in a video game.

It just feels like PD and Red Bull aggrandizing themselves.

The concept is drawn from F1's automotive history and F1 drivers' themselves. One of those "what if ... no regs" situation was to present itself. This by far is a drivers' dream.

Current racing regulations and restrictions will not allow this technology on any track, but they are pushing the envelope.

If it does come to fruition, drivers would need to adorn g-suites in order to remain somewhat conscious during races.

GT4 had a car (maybe 2?) that was simply a theoretical design study undertaken by PD's design team alongside Nike's ergonomics scientists. The result was a strangely beautiful car with almost Tron-ish bike characteristics.

LOL I think the tracks are possible. Probably can build one in a few weeks if they worked at it. Is the X1 really possible outside a computer chip? A made up track is still a track. It CAN exist. A made up car just seems different.

Newey/Red Bull were involved in the later stages of PD's design programme... it seems that the car COULD be built.

However... Newey commented that the driver environment is not necessarily survivable for races of F1 length.

It's plausible, but making the car would require alot of engineering, and will probably almost un-drivable.

It's not a totally arcade car, the technology exists. But it would be horrendously expensive to make.

IF they built it I bet you five of them in your driveway it has NOWHERE near the performance it has in the game. Even if they matched power stats, it simply would not be as good as it is in the game. The car is fantasy, I'd rather get a premium 1800's car as a reward than a fantasy car.

If a human can't drive it, it's not a real car.
