Yea I agree and am not at all faulting people for liking the car, but at the same time they could attach missile launchers to cars and have Lamborghini police cars in the game but that just isn’t what the game was about to me. But I understand the point of it now. More of giving us the opportunity to drive a "what if". For some reason I don't drive any of the cars that are concept in the game. Maybe I am abnormal in that because it is a game and nothing in it is real, just a computer showing images on the screen but when I see the concepts pop up I say, "I am not driving that it isn’t even real" Lol well nothing in the game is "real". Just my thing I guess.

I see it the other way... for me the game is a virtual environment that lets you play out your race driver fantasies.

Why not drive a fantasy race car while you're there?

The Citroen Road Car was pondered as a design study and almost made it to minor production, but the idea was scrapped. Production total was around 6 cars, fitted with V8's.

Existence isn't the same as production. Many concepts never get production runs but can have several prototypes.

The Ford GT90, a beautiful concept had a prototype, I remember Clarkson on Top Gear saying it went about 40 MPH and handled like a cartoon or something equally clarkson-like.

Even the protoypes rarely have the right performance.

Concepts are generally a few signatures away from becoming reality anyway.

If we take a good look at what technologies are being implemented today in high end cars, it's amazing how far we have come, from the horse-less carriage.

It isn't far fetched for the X1/X-2010 concept to be built in our lifetime. If there is a purpose, they (manufacturers) will fill the need. Cost and feasabillity being limiting factor.

Here it is just recently, Google had driver-less (autonymous) cars prancing all over Asia's highways. England has been experimenting with driver-less (autonymous) sanitation trucks for decades.

These were concepts at one-point in time.

I agree in a sense and maybe my lack of physics and racing knowledge is what is the problem here. Is it possible for a car to create enough down force to take turns as fast as the X1 does and if so are there tires that can take it more than 1 or 2 laps and if so can it hold enough fuel and still be light enough to achieve all of this? If so then I do change my thoughts a little on this. Fantasy is borderline ok in a sim game but there is a limit. If the technology is right around the corner and in 5 years this car will be produced, then yes it's an acceptable fantasy, if we are talking 30 to 40 years from now then it's science fiction and there are games for that, just not the GT series.

With very few changes an F1 car could take 10 or 15 seconds off most laps already.

The X1 is definitely do-able... but it would be very very expensive to do just for the hell of it. If there was a commercial value to the project it would happen... competitive value simply isn't enough!

Then I don't find it so far fetched for it to be in the game. To me it just seemed physically impossible to take a turn that fast, apart from the driver being able to do it.

It exists but it doesn't work(yet). It's just a model.

It's a driving simulator... therefore it's Kaz's job to try and simulate the performance of these vehicles were they to be built. I see nothing wrong with that. He's a motoring enthusiast and so are most of the fans, if you had the chance to simulate driving some of the cars that may never come to be, why wouldn't you? It's a rare opportunity to see that cars that won't ever happen, and the ones that someday might happen.

are you thick enough to think they measured every single in the car to core to make sure it handles the way it does in real life? Honestly with the time spent on the x2010 its probably more accurate to what it would feel like then some other cars in the game.

Originally it was just a technical excercise between adrian newy & pd, but I'm pretty sure theyr trying to make one as we type/speek

Somehow the X2010 made me think about Speed Racer. It wouldn't seem out of place there.

Almost all my prize cars are yellow. It makes me sad.

I have the same problem. I actually like yellow, but I get silver/white cars all the time which are usually boring looking. It's as if the game is programmed to give you prize cars in colors you won't like (one of the few brighter cars I got was an FT-86 - it was Chameleon Purple and didn't even give me a chip!)

As for the X1/X2010, didn't they build a real life version of it?

Strange how now I have a unexplainable, compulsive urge to see that movie, even though I know it is more unrealistic that the X2011 times ten, given that the top speeds in that are mach 5 (something like 3,600 mph) and has loop-de-loops with paper thin track...

Kinda.

I don't think they are as there's no purpose for it outside of the full size model built by IDC.

It would cost millions just make it drivable if it were to be anything like it is in the game. Money that Red Bull will undoubtedly continue to pump into Formula 1 instead of a car that would be nothing more than a, "Hey, we did it" centerpiece at their factory.

The x1 is not a real car. They only have a prototype(not drivable) one.

Rader

Huh? There is a real redbull x1 it's in the gt tv it shows it in the making and stuff also

The model of the car is real but the cars abilities are fake.

No land vehicle on earth can react like the X1 and physics is not something you can change.

The x1 is pretty much like an f1 car but it stuff on the front wheels which makes the aero and turning a lot better

Do you honestly believe that the X1 in GT5 will behave the same way in real life?

NEVER

Jeremy Clarkson did a test in a X1 (PD's X2010) on Top Gear a long time ago.
If I remember correct, it was under the label of Ford...
Youtube has the video...somewhere.

No he didn't. I don't know why this old thread was bumped, the first reply was correct in 2010 and still is. There is no mechanical working X1 in real life.

PD didn't spend the tens of millions dollars or so it would have taken to actually build a working version of the car that no one would be able to drive anyway just so their publicity stunt would have more credibility. The only thing they built was the full size model with no interior.

Have you driven one in real life to prove it wont? No? Oh, ok.. Didnt think so. So if you could stop saying that it wont handle the same in real life until you have proof. In theory, there is nothing stopping it from handling like it does in the game.. Theory...

The Caparo T1 is not even close to the X2010/11... Not even light years close... and the Caparo isnt a Ford??

Yeah of course it is not the same..one is Caparo, other Red Bull 👍

I can't see why not. I think the car is capable of performing like it does in GT5 if they can design tires to cope with the forces. The biggest issue is that human's will give up on the G-forces well before the car does.

If we can launch rockets to various planets, if we can make dragsters accelerate from 0-300mph in 2.5 seconds, if we can already make F1 cars pull 5G's around a corner under heavily restricted regulations preventing them from going faster, then we can build an X1. It's design was assisted by one of the biggest boffins in motorsport history after all.

There is not a single other similarity between the T1 and the X2010... The body shape.. And thats about it...
