Is there a weakness of the Trueno S.S.?

It's far from crap. It's a great starter car with excellent potential. And a whole lot of fun to drift.

It's not a speed demon, but it was never meant to be. It does what it's supposed to do very well. And that's be a balanced car that's fun to drive.

I mean if the 86 is garbage, what else in GT3 that's in the same price range is so much better?

Not a tenable position, when the thread is about the 500,000cr Trueno Shigeno.

It's crap. Deal with it.

Snowman - I've driven everything there is to drive in GT3 (apart from the 996 911, Diablo, NTSC F1 cars and the pair of Stratoseseess, obviously). I've rated every single car, objectively. Have you?

What will become of you once GT4 gets out ;)

I can't remenber what series that I got it from, but it was a total fluke as I wasn't aiming to get that car just to win another series. But I'm glad to have got the car as you can pull off some great drift laps. 👍

Drift God- Thats some amazing work you have done on your tokyo 3 paint jobs.

thanx bro,

im working on some new cars, ill let everybody know in the TXR3 thread when i add them to my site.

I like the SS it's a fast car (when you are just starting) that is pretty easy to get. It's strength is for learning to drift. Be honest once you bought or won a race car did you use your first car as much, no. It's not going to win any big races but when you first get going it can be very valuable. Rant Rant Rant Rant Rant Rant Rant Rant Rant Rant Rant Rant Rant Rant Rant Rant Rant Rant Rant Rant Rant Rant Rant Rant Rant Rant Rant Rant Rant Rant Rant Rant Rant Rant Rant Rant. Trueno SS rocks!

- I cant get one :)

if your looking for a AE86 LEVIN/SPRINTER/TRUENO you wont find it in the US, you need to look for a TOYOTA COROLLA GTS '85-'87 wich is the US version of the HACHI-ROKU or AE86 :D

If you're talking about the one you can buy from the dealership and not the SS version, from memory, I think the Miata mx5 is almost the same price?

Don't quote me on that though, haven't played Gran Turismo for the last 2 years or so.

The Miata mx5 is also lightweight, well balanced, rear wheel drive, and if not, better looking.

How come that car is not as popular as the Trueno?

If they had made the Initial d series based on the Miata, I'd bet that no would even know what an AE86 really is.

Don't get me wrong, It is a great car, but it's over rated IMO. (both the SS version and the GT apex version.)

But arent the US versions FWD? I think I read a magazine saying that. Any one know?

Midway through the 1984 model year, the rear-drive Corolla coupe and Liftback were offered with a new dual-overhead cam, 16-valve version of the 1.6-liter four rated at a robust 124 horsepower. The resulting Corolla GT-S is now a classic of sorts, a highly tossable, fun-to-drive vehicle that has attracted a cult following of "drifters" who slide their vehicles through corners as a motorsport form in Japan.

I agree that the miata is a good car. I think it is percieved as a more feminine car. Few people see them racing. I hope the next version has stronger lines to go along with it's good performance.

The question should be what isn't the weakness of the Trueno S.S.

Meh, onto the real question, the weakness of the car is the looks. Sheesh.

I hate to tell you but the ol' Hachi-Roku had a fairly big cult following before the show was even thought of. Yes it got a bit bigger after Initial-D came out but it really got big after the Dori-King (Drift King) Keichi Tsuchiya (forgive me if i spell it wrong) got famous and begun the drift craze. The MX-5 has a big following in its own right but its got nothing on the Hachi-Roku.

now IMHO the hachi-roku is a beautiful example of Japanese engineering and looks perfect in the 'Panda' style colours. They can go fast with a bit of work becuase they are light and due to their weight balance they are pretty good for track work and drifting. The final reason and to me the biggest reason is that the 86 has load of tuning potential, and me being a Toyota convert i like it that way. Yes MX-5's can get rotary conversions and what not but i prefer a 4A-GZE block with a 4A-GE 20 valve head screaming out to redline and roasting rear tyres.
But hey this is all just my opinion and yours may differ

Getting back to GT3 gaming.
I can use a stock standard R32 Skyline GTR in the 3 beginner 80's races and beat the AE 86 Trueno SS version.

As for the standard AE 86 it is about 20 seconds slower in last place.
To tune the standard AE 86 car up to the level of the SS version it would cost a lot more credits than the standard Skyline costs.

In the game when you upgrade the engine the chassis does not handle the extra power. It losses grip very easily which is normally bad for grip driving. It only becomes a good drift car because of this weakness.
So most drifters love it and most grip drivers dont rate them very highly.

Limit Four-Five
Im a grip driver and i rate it quite highly buddy. I dont drift because i cant do it properly yet which i admit proudly.

Junior, How many cars you driven.
I am not your buddy. I am no one's buddy. So do not call me buddy and I will not call you Junior any more. 👍 My name is Uncle Harry. (Uncle because I am an old fart).
I have driven all the cars, yes every single one, in GT3 and the SS Trueno is only average for a 300,000 car (value is 4x75,000 if you buy it in from a memory card).
A 30,000 stock GTR skyline as I said in my previous post can beat it and I rate that car as average also.
Limit4-5 drive some top line cars and then see if you change your rating.
The GT-One race car rates quite highly in my book.

i never said i dont appreciate it. its a damn cult car. lol....people like it cuz its an 86, not because its a super-performer.

In my opinion, the trueno is a great car, but the best of the trueno isn't the hp and the aceleration, the best it's the handling and the weight. When used with a guy in experience of underpowered cars, this car can be a good tailgate car, because the weight and more things. Like Bunta said in Initial D, the trueno is that car that can trains the driver because the car is underpowered, and to keep with a guy with more power, you need to use better the hp and the aceleration you have, you need to push the limits, not yours, but the limits of the car. When I say the limits of the car, I say the braking for the curves, the control in the curves, and the exit at the curves.
When you push the limits of the car at that (braking..), just buy another car with better power and handling and with better things, if when you drive the other car you was pushing the car's limit at your normal, in this new car you will push more your limit, because the limits of the car is higher, and you will be faster than before, and sometimes, it could be much more bigger :D.
And this is real, I already had the prove, my father can be faster than me with a motorbike with less hp and less aceleration and with less handling but with lees weight (mine has 97 kg, and his motorbike has 70 kg or a little more), and I drive very well for a guy that isn't in races, but he still faster than me :ouch: .

No there is a very logical well thought out response. And I agree that if Initial D had been based on any other car then nobody would know what the Hachi Roku was! :dopey:

Junior, How many cars you driven.

Ive got about 130 of the cars in the game qand i am currently getting the ones i dont have because its about the only thing left for me to do.

Of course the Skyline beat it. It comes with 2 more cylinders, an extra litre of displacement and another turbo. From what I know the Trueno S.S. version was worth so much becuase it was a limited run homogolian special or something along those lines. The Skyline was a mass produced road car.

Uncle Harry

Ive got the GT-One both the race and road version, and i rate those quite highly too. I dont car how fast the cars go i enjoy the way they dive. Speed isnt everything in my life you know. Which top line cars are you referring to? Ive driven just about every good car in the game and only have lower grade ones left to buy.

Whcih rating are you reffering to here? My win ratio? My completion rating huh. I done 99.6% of the damn game.

Lancer Drifter
I agree with kikkoman, if we didn't see the ae86 in initial D, we wouldn't probably know well how is the ae86.

Yeah you would just watch the best motoring Drift Bible and you will find out what car Keiichi Tsyuchia was first driving when he became famous for drifting.

Limit 4-5, I was reffering to your rating of the car.
Your rating and my rating differ so we can agree to disagree.
The car in question is expensive and that lowers its rating in my eyes.
I think the non turbo Supra and the old 300 ZX out rank the SS Trueno in being better value for money and more fun to drive.

I can agree to disagree with you on that one then. I personally think the turbo supra 0wns the trueno but you might disagree with totally fine with me. So whats you fav car then?

Oh cool your from Australia too.
