Well, using the brake heavily isn't a bad thing at all. When you brake into a corner, it shifts the weight of the car to the front, so the rear end slides out easily. So, you brake hard and turn hard into the corner to get the rear sliding, then give it gas to keep it sliding. Once you're there, it's all about practicing. Do it over and over, and you'll figure out how much countersteer you need and how much gas you should be giving it to keep sideways. And....don't be afraid to spin out a couple times. It's good to learn where the car will start to spin out, because that's where you want to be.
Now those are the basics. Next up, you'll want to try feinting a little bit. Say you're coming up on a left turn. Stay in the middle of the road at first. Just before your turn-in point, turn the car out to the right side (this shifts the weight to the left side). Then, turn in (left) and hit the brake. Since all the weight goes from the left side to the right all at once, it'll send the rear end out easily. From there, you go back to the basics. Throttle control and countersteer.
Those are the basics and the slightly-advanced basics to drifting. After that, just practice and you'll figure out how it works. Good luck
And.....what kind of settings are you using? Sure they're drift settings off GTVault? Personally, I'll reccommend some general settings here. Go up a bit over 300 hp, stiffen up the rear suspension and use sim tires. Don't forget to turn off ASM and TCS. Play around with it from there. Have fun
O ya....I'll throw in my "welcome to GTP" here
