Hi i'm new here. I have been tying to get into the sport of drifting. I am at around 87 percent. I got some setting from gtvault. I can get sideways around corner but only when i use the brake heavily to get sideways. I have tried the rx7 as recomended some where but i can't keep it straight. (yes i have read Cudamans drift guide) help please?

Welcome to GTP and read the stickes and use the PM sys. also the Search button

perhaps a video would help with a "diagnosis" of sort.

no i meant a video of YOU drifting.

You can use ethier a capture card.

Some people use thier camcorders.. umm I'm not the best person to ask about this I just use my dazzle capture card.

or, if you have "some" time, you can start downloading the "drift bible" 100mb.. sounds fun?

Well, using the brake heavily isn't a bad thing at all. When you brake into a corner, it shifts the weight of the car to the front, so the rear end slides out easily. So, you brake hard and turn hard into the corner to get the rear sliding, then give it gas to keep it sliding. Once you're there, it's all about practicing. Do it over and over, and you'll figure out how much countersteer you need and how much gas you should be giving it to keep sideways. And....don't be afraid to spin out a couple times. It's good to learn where the car will start to spin out, because that's where you want to be.

Now those are the basics. Next up, you'll want to try feinting a little bit. Say you're coming up on a left turn. Stay in the middle of the road at first. Just before your turn-in point, turn the car out to the right side (this shifts the weight to the left side). Then, turn in (left) and hit the brake. Since all the weight goes from the left side to the right all at once, it'll send the rear end out easily. From there, you go back to the basics. Throttle control and countersteer.

Those are the basics and the slightly-advanced basics to drifting. After that, just practice and you'll figure out how it works. Good luck :)

And.....what kind of settings are you using? Sure they're drift settings off GTVault? Personally, I'll reccommend some general settings here. Go up a bit over 300 hp, stiffen up the rear suspension and use sim tires. Don't forget to turn off ASM and TCS. Play around with it from there. Have fun :)

O ya....I'll throw in my "welcome to GTP" here ;)

If you need help with drifting, come on by and join in our discussions over at IDM... We have weekly learning excersizes, and often discuss in detail various techniques and settings...

It’s possible to drift just about any car. It all depends on practice and settings. Well you can drift them stock if you wanted. Which I strongly recommend, so that you car learn about how the car reacts to certain corners and speeds.

The easiest way I know of getting videos up, is to use your video camera. Just hook up your play station to your camera and hook up the camera to your TV, and use a program like MGI video wave to capture it. Or even Windows Movie Maker 2.0.

Oh yes and about the rx-7. I think some people recommend this car to beginners like your self because, this car will teach you control. As you should know by now, this car is very unique. When you said you "brake heavily" that’s all right. I do the same.

Well if you need any help don't be afraid to PM me.

Keep Drifting
-Mike
