Is Top Gear Test Track the Most Boring Track in GT5

Sure it is a huge part of one of the world's most veiwed automotive programs and it is definitely exciting to have it in GT5 which is HUGELY unique and a great honor. One of the things that made this track interesting was the database of lap times that Top Gear has compiled over the years and now finally we get to test our skills to try and beat them or compile our own database. At least this is what I thought anyway...

No mid-field... that's fine, at least now we have TOP GEAR TEST TRACK! Sort of the same thing right?

Now that I've been playing GT series for... oh idk, since GT2 at least... I can't say that, after 3 months of GT5, I actually like this track anymore.

The problems... there is no scenery, no different track surfaces, no banked turns or any kind of track elements. There's no long straight away, all of the turns are compact, no dynamic weather (I mean come on how many times was the real track drinched on the show ), and GT5's static sky is the most noticeable here because there's no trees or mountains or even stands to block the veiw. The track is dead silent, still... it just seems really fake, the most fake track of all the lot (and that's including the originals). It's static, cold, and just all around dead.

In other tracks like Trial Mountain, Deep Forest, Sarthe, Nurb... theres things flying by you - theres scenerey - all of which add to the illusion of speed, power, acceleration... it just ties the game together. The track isn't all the same - it's bumpy, rough, some tracks have different types of surfaces, of course a lot of tracks have their signature elements. TGTT is just stripped of all this... no heart or soul or anything. It's just there. Not to mention I don't really think it can handle 16 players on it or any more than 2 or 3... it just gets really messy really quick.

Now I understand the hype, and I'm sure the hype is still relevant today as there are some really die-hard fans of the TV show out there, most undoubtedly. But I can't help but point out the stark reality that it HAS to be the most boring track in the game.

CONFIRM DENY.

Font and colour fail for the OP :ouch:

The test track is so bland, because the original is. It's somewhere in rural england on a disused airfield. What did you expect?

Much more annoying is the sort of sloppy implementation of it. The cones are epic fail as there's none of those in the original. The lack of weather and standing starts adds to it and the fact that all 3 SIARPC mobiles are missing from the game is the EPIC'est of fails.

They managed to get every reason to include the track wrong

1st up, you really need to change the colour of your text; it's just plain horrible to read.
As for the track, i find it a welcome addition and a real challenge as nearly every corner is blind. Remember, it's an airfield; what do you expect to see, a sprawling metropolis? Why would their be banked turns on a runway?
So i deny it's the most boring, that award goes to Rome or High Speed Ring or nearly every other track that's been dragged through the whole GT series meaning they don't have to spend time rendering a fresh track.
It makes for a fun challenge when their's 2 of you in competetive cars and sheer mayhem (translate as big fun) when their's a full grid.
If you don't like the track then quite simply don't use it; that's my solution to all the tracks i loathe on this game.

If you don't like the track, don't race on it. It's that simple. As for me, those things you mentioned don't bore me, when I realise that I'm driving through the famous corners that Stig drives through.
And you forgot to mention some pros of the track -- for example, it was constructed by Lotus, and these guys definetely know something about car testing. And you can always pretend you are test-driving a car TopGear-style while driving.

Whether or not it's on an airfield doesn't change the fact that track is boring. The track is what it is... if your reasoning is that it has a right to be boring because its on an airfield - this doesn't change the fact that it is still boring. Notice the play on words there.

PD didn't exactly do anything to liven it up. There were some things they could've done... cameras, camera crew, audience (with perhaps Stig looking on as well - would be a cool easter egg), of course the dynamic weather would've been nice since the sky is wide open, definitely more things to connect it with the show would make it more interesting. The actual replay camera angels would cool.

You know, actually its not meant to be a QQ about things PD missed about the track, but whether or not the track itself is boring. What I expect out if it has nothing to do with what it is... seemed like a good idea at the time, and even though I do think its boring I still thinks its definitely a welcomed addition.

*also I like the colors.

My personal top 3 favourites:

Nurburgring 24
Cape Ring Periphery
Top Gear

All 3 of these tracks are always used for my tunes that i do, each one represents a unique challenge - rarely can a car make it totaly flat-out through the follow-through and i actualy like the inclusion of the cones; if i hit one i feel that i've failed!
Minor correction though to AlexKrelin, Lotus didn't construct the track, it was already there; they just designed the layout which boils down to where the paint markings would go! :)

I think you missed the point by a lot... I mean you probably need a plane ticket. lol. I'm not saying it should have banked turns or whatever else it doesn't have... this isn't the piont. I'm jjust simply judging the track itself and determining whether or not its boring.

Not much to argue here... Intersted in other people's opinions, but I'm not interested in flaming especially when its so far off the mark. 👎

What is it is and what I expected don't correlate at all. Of course I didn't expect even half the things I pointed out - but I brought them up because it lacks those things which is one of the biggest reasons for me that it is boring. Not that it should have them, because that wouldn't be realistic. The point is to judge the track for what it is - not to get all sassy at me because you use a narrow-terminate-on-sight sense of reasoning. If I upset your Top Gear fanboyism... well I can't apologize for that but I'd suggest looking at thread without the Top Gear sunglasses, might give you some perspective..

@DEATHSARTHE

I think thy may happen to miss the point here. From a scenery point of view the TGTT is boring, even the original, because there's nothing there but some runways and taxi ways. The whole point of it is to test cars, to upset their balance, that's what hammerhead, followthrough etc. are for. I'd still stay it isn't boring, but misimplemented. The cones, the invisible walls and the wrong camera positions all spoil it beyond repair.

The most epic thing would have been a real 'free-run' option, so you can thrash your steed all over the airfield hollering "POWWWERRR!" all the time :D

It is not a boring track, as stated before Lotus structured the corners to test the handling of a car to the maximum, and this therefore also reflects in the challenge to the driver. The surrounding scenery is true to life - were you expecting lots of scenery that just isn't there? Only thing I might add as a "hidden gem" would be Jeremy, Hammond and May somewhere around the track watching on, not obvious but hidden (photo trophy?) but apart from that.... They didn't miss the surrounding planes or the buildings which are the only things around.

In terms of how the track was implemented though it is a bit of a false start. Was excited when I heard it was to be included, but thats as far as the hype goes. Reasons as stated before, but these changes can be included later on. I for one would like full access to the runway and to get rid of the invisible walls to run full top gear test drives and challenges. But the fact these aren't in the track NOW does not make it boring.

The Top Gear Test Track could have been done better, but I must say that laying down my quickest lap, and then narrating the replay NEVER gets old!

"Second to last corner now, he keeps it fairly stable. Only Gambon left now. Big oversteer coming out of the corner! AND ACROSS THE LINE!" :D

i love the top gear track. its not boring at all. but i gotta say one thing. next time you think about posting. change your damn font colour. that was stupid putting it to green and now its very hard to read. DUH!!!

DENY.

The TGTT is as fun as you make it. If it bores you as a race track, that's your opinion, but you cany deny that it makes a good venue for drag racing, car football and general hooning.

I did not read the OP because the font/color/background combination made it virtually unreadable.

Anyway... there are some incredibly bland tracks in GT5. TGTT has some redeeming value in the fact it is used in Top Gear. Much worse are the (highly overused) Tsukuba and Fuji not to mention Daytona and Indy.

I wish I could trade these for some of the great tracks of yore: El Capitan, Citta di Aria, Costa di Amalfi, Hong Kong, Paris, Pikes Peak, Tahiti Maze, etc.

Personally I think it's a great track!! I'm not really looking at the scenery as I concentrate on my braking for the hammerhead!! I love Top Gear and the track is famous all around the world,so I would be unhappy if it wasn't in GT5.

I cant and will not read that eye tearing colours you have OP.. :(

anyway.. TG test track is the best fun track GT have for me and my friends. Its very fun to drive and also very good to test cars.. this track I use for testing drifts and tunes for my cars.. also having fun with friends online on it.

I suppose it could get a bit boring doing hot laps, but I've driven 20 laps of it online and it was really fun. The way the corners are set up require your concentration all the time.
At the hammerhead it gets so narrow that if you're three or two wide it becomes a race for who can brake later.

I would say, that the full cape ring is more boring.
Just the full one though.

Deny. Top Gear is one of the most enjoyable tracks in the game hands down. Doing the advanced TTGT challenge seals the deal as you watch a mini-demolition derby as you race.

Top Gear IS Boring, as far as Racing goes, this is not a race track IMO, it is a technical track that quickly determines whether to trash that prize car in your garage or not, if it handles really crappy in key areas of the track. I value this track solely for this reason.

I use it as a test track for my cars as it has a bit of everything, a crap car will struggle and a decent car will shine. The scenery is bland as expected but the track isnt boring.

Denied, it's one of my favorite tracks both for testing and racing.

The most boring track for me is called by the name of Tsukuba:mad:

Also, I had to highlight the OP to actually read it:dopey:

Nooooooooooo, I love Tsukuba . :)

My eyes are still hurting, by the way.

I typed a longer response there but my internet decided to go on holiday, so I'll go for the concise option:

Deny. And your font is horrible.

Deny. Its not fun racing with more than 2 people, but it's a blast by itself. Plus I think it's the best track to get the right tune for any car.

Why would you want the camera crew, stig etc anyway it's a RACE track you're supposed to be
a)going quite quickly and
b)looking at the road
And personally I don't find it boring.
