I think it cant be a cheat, but it slows you down big time. So the one who looses is you no matter how good you drive.

It's not cheating... It's just cheap :T

If you struggle, or cannot, control the car without certain aids, you are normal, if all aids are on and you still struggle, you might need a little more practice in less powerful cars. Sometimes I even still use TC.

TC can make you fast but it all depends on what TC setting you are on, but in @SVPSkins case, we can use TC or SRF ON or OFF so it is not cheating.

I would have said SRF was a cheat. I ignore any lap I see with it as it's way too forgiving. It's basically a driving god option.

If it's allowed then it's not cheating.

Nobody has mention the effect that precise acceleration or brake dosage may have on your fingers; some people have health problems regarding thumbs, so using driving assist for them is mandatory.

But competing with TCS when allowed is not cheating - you're just using tools to your advantage. If one doesn't like it, he can change the regulations.

Whether you're better driver or not when using driving assist is a different topic.

Cheating? Its a game, play how you want.

I play TC off 99% of the time, the other 1% I used TCS 1 - here's the problem... the DS3 is a hopeless controller. The triggers suck so I dont begrudge people who use it. The fine control is just not there.

I feel that the 500pp challenges obviously dont need TC... the cars just dont have the power you need to manage.

Once it gets up to 600+ 650pp etc. then yeah. use it.

Hell I sometimes even use ASM just to watch the skid warning flash constantly when I'm showboating. Again you dont need it most of the times...

Not a cheat, it loses as much as it gains in most circumstances, loses way more in a rally situation as described by the OP because your wheels are almost constantly slipping so the TC is acting more like a constant power limiter than just cleaning up a bit of wheel spin on exit. It is a bit of a crutch for some people though, they use it without thinking and it is harming their progression as a driver, this said its just a game and its not like anyone is losing anything but pride so do as you please 👍

I use the custom diff and lower the acceleration sensitivity setting.

I always run lobbies with all aids on. I don't care what you use. Just enjoy your company, conversation, and the racing. To those who say TC is cheating or and other aid I say turn it on and beat me then. If you say it gives you an advantage, then turn it on, give yourself an advantage and beat me. I can race with them on or off. Actually depends on the car to me. Just use whatever I need to make it fun. Don't want to drive around babying the car around. Real cars are not that bad. There is no car out there that you barely step on the gas and the rear end slides out instantly. Nobody would buy them. And don't name a race car. Most of the cars on GT are street production models that we just happen to race. Almost all new cars come with built in aids. Why? So normal people can drive them without wrecking.

I would not consider using traction control cheating. Driving without aids is definitely more efficient, but unless it's not legal, I think using a dab of TCS is okay, say if you're having issues with keeping a vehicle under control, whether because it's unstable or has a lot of power. There's really no right way to play. What matters is that you find a setup you're comfortable with, and if you feel you need traction control, that's okay. But I prefer to go without aids if I can. I generally find traction control to slow me down too much.

Short answer, NO! Real cars have real driver aids. Most (but not all!) of the fastest drivers in real life prefer them.

I personally like the feel of a car with only ABS at 1, nothing else...but when the going gets tough, I turn them on. It's rare, but it happens. Some cars are really meant to be driven with TCS, for instance, and for DS3 users become borderline un-driveable, at least with any sort of speed.

TCS is cheating? nope.
TCS=noob? Nope, it's a choice, deal with it.
SRF is off in that event(rally TT matterhorn), if you manage to switch it on? that's a cheat (or a glitch).

But to compare it with reallife, let's bring in Topgear, the three stooges only switch off tcs to get a drift.
For fast times they hand it off to "da stig", now that's cheating.
So you only cheat when you share your account settings with an alien that drives the event for you.
You only cheat when you alter your savegame to apply other carsettings to your used car.

I always thought it was used because people can't drive.

Can't manage power? Here's an aid.

Can't steer? Here's an aid.

Can't save a skid? Here's an aid.

Don't forget 'Can't brake? Here's an aid'. :p

thing is that every modern car in the west practically has TC and DSC and ABS as standard that cant be turned off

i want to say that all aids off is realistic but it isnt

i think for realism i reckon abs 1 tc 1 and stm on is more representative of the modern car, even the modern race car

if you want to drive old muscle cars then all off is realistic

These aids (TC & ABS) are deemed as necessary safety features for a family car in the modern day market, and are rightly available for use (at leisure) in the game.

If it's allowed then it's not cheating.

And that's about the shortest and simplest answer to the question. 👍

But this is what lies beneath the surface:

Whether you're better driver or not when using driving assist is a different topic.

Because:

I've just been accused of being a cheat by someone I thought was a friend, for using TC ............................

- what SVPSkins 'friend' was saying here was that he was a better driver. He probably didn't win. If he had, I doubt he would have complained. :sly:

I always thought it was used because people can't drive.

Can't manage power? Here's an aid.

Can't steer? Here's an aid.

Can't save a skid? Here's an aid.
No they are created for people that go way beyond their limit. Those aid's were for safety. And are now also used in games.

IMO you are only cheating yourself when you use TCS. it just depends on how serious you are about "sim" racing. all it takes is a little practice with smooth throttle control and shifting to the right gear. then when you learned everything after awhile its pretty much a muscle memory reaction u dont really think about. kinda like learning to shift by ear
but the Same exact argument goes for ABS users...
but the main thing is.. is that you have to challenge yourself and learn new, harder techniques to develop your own unique style that works for you. you just don't get that kind of progression towards being faster when using aids.

use TC is not cheating.... Tc can be good and bad .... with tc you can go on the throttle before those who dosn´t use TC but you don´t win much time with it .... So it can never bee cheating .... so those who say so is only afaird of loosing a race

No, it's not cheating. That's a fallacious claim that's been made by certain self-serving parties for the past 3 three years, as they sought to control how everyone else played the game using peer pressure and specious claims of cheating.

Personally I try to aim for realism. If a car doesn't have TCS or can have it disabled, then I don't race with it. If it has TCS which can't be disabled then I leave it on. Same with ABS.

No, it's not cheating. All it is is a matter of taste. Some like to race with it on all the time, while others would never use it. Whatever setting you're faster with, go with that.

Fair enough. Same as me overall, except that I use ABS as a fine tune control for brake pressure, since PDI's implementation of brake adjustments is so primitive and coarse.
