Is using triggers on PlayStation controller alright?

I'm playing Gran Turismo 2 on PCSX2 emulator (beacuse I don't have PS2). I rebind controls, I'm using R2 and L2 as gas and brake instead of X and square on the PlayStation controller. Is it okay? I suspect on X and square I could be faster. People say better to set triggers for Xbox controller but what about PlayStation?

Nevermind. I switched to X and square and yes, I am definitely faster

On a game that does not support pressure sensitivity, much less triggers, just don't. Go for the joysticks, or use the buttons.
