I remember when I first played GT, I was like 'whoa you start off with one million credits that's a lot!' then I realised that a racecar cost 50 million. In the Japanese GT3 you start off with the equivalent of 15,000, but in the PAL version you get 18,000. Also some of the cars are more expensive in the japanese version, but only slightly.

So does this in any way change the release date for PAL? Or will they still have all of the language conversions to deal with?

Great news, now I'm beginning to understand the large influx of GT4 info and pics, right after a slight dip in new sightings, PD was trying to keep some things under wraps at least until they announced that the game is finished.

yay! just in time to cause me to fail my exams

Donbenni: They still have to do the language conversions. So far, the game is only about a week ahead of schedule (and no word if that'll mean a change of release date for North America), so I wouldn't expect any major change in the European release date.

What's wrong with releasing a PAL version that's identical to the NTSC one? American isn't too dissimilar to English and nearly all of Europe can read English and probably would prefer the game now than in 4 months time. Obviously they'd have to release the version with all the languages too, but at least release an English PAL version now!

No it's the conversion from NTSC to PAL format that will take a while - I'm not sure what they stand for ("Never Twice Same Colour" ... think it's a joke) but I do know that the formatting on Japanese and American TVs is different to everyone else. That's why you can't play NTSC games on a PAL TV unless you have a chip.

Yep even PAL conversions shouldn't take too long. Hell I know you can patch games with NTSC/PAL selectors & they work perfectly fine. I have even myself converted a NTSC game to PAL using some tools for my PSX ages ago. Of course its probably a bit more complex for a retail game, but they could still release an english only version. 18 languages or whatever is a lot, but most games have 5 or 6 major languages which they should have atleast done.

No reason why they couldn't do a PAL english version for xmas, but I doubt their gonna bother.

BEST NEWS OF ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Van Halenからクラシックまで収録されたサウンド
"From Van Halen to the classic the sound which was recorded"

Van Halen on the soundtrack!!!!!!!! What else could you ask for??????????? Wow!

I'm not sure what the difficulties are for an English version, since you're correct.. it would be nearly identical to the American version, except for speeds in KPH and display in PAL. The only difference between NTSC and PAL is the way it's displayed. NTSC is 720x480, 60fps.. PAL is 720x576, 50fps. As noted, PAL games can be played on NTSC systems, and vice versa. I don't think it would take long to fix the coding, since it's just a few tweaks to the display parameters.. the higher vertical resolution is compensated by the lower frame rate, so there's no power issues in the PS2 that I'm aware of.

Sony has officially stated that the translations into the different languages is what will cause the delay. Apparently, they feel the need to have each country's version in it's native language (French, German, etc). Why they're choosing to release them all at once is unknown, since, as mentioned above, the version for England would be nearly identical in language to the American version. A few words changed here and there at the most. They can do it with books, now that I think about it... the latest Harry Potter book was released in the UK and US at the same time, and I recently became aware of just how many little changes were done to the translation to American ("trunk" instead of "boot", things like that).

As I recall, NTSC stands for "National Television Standards Comittee" that created the fixed standard for U.S. television technology when it first started out. It's remained largely unchanged since then, until very recently with the wider distribution of high-definition technology (HDTV).

I agree, They shouldnt have any problem releasing it in UK, Australia and New Zealand as well.

HEY! Quit yer whinin'! At least YOU guys have Prologue and Concept and the 1 Series demo to keep you busy. All WE got in North America was the crappy Toyota Demo, so SHUT IT!

(note: don't take that offensively. I'm just making a point, and I exagerated my mood.)

Do you race?
Well it's damn ugly ... looks like a shoe with hoolahoops for wheels.

You think thats ugly you should see the Shox that come with it. I have a pair of Nike Shox and the look 1,000,000x better!

Sooooooooooooooooooooo this means December 14 for us in America is now a reality???????????????
Don't get your hopes up just yet, PD only announced it was finished, they didn't specify a release date. After the bug fiascos in previous games, if I were PD I'd sit down and take a good long look at GT4 before I released it to make it absolutely, honest-to-goodness, totally, completely, utterly, 110% beyond reasonable doubt perfect. Long-winded explanation, yes, but for GT4 to be the most comprehensive and realistic (minus endorsements from major shoe comapnies to produce shoe-shaped cars) diving simulator in the whole freaking universe, PD will want to make sure there is nothing in it that will make GT4 less than my description (I'm sure Kaz holds a similar view).

i'm sure they've passed the test phase already. they're not gonna just finish the game, not test it, and throw a finish party. programmers test code every coupe of lines, or in this case, game testers were testing from the beginning- and as they added more stuff, they did more and more testing- so the probability of serious bugs is slim.

I wonder how long it'll take Sony's quality control team to test the game...the game is so long that even if you play 24 hours a day, it'll take like 2 months to complete...

Worried.

As Cobra S has stated, that would have been done already.

If he says its finished, then Its finished.
