Well, it isn't just on the V6s, it is also on some of the new V8s as well. I don't think GM has a special name for it, as it is generally refered to only as VVT, but the way that it seperates itself from some of the competition is that it is being used not only on their few DOHC engines (such as the 3.6L unit we share in the US and AUS), but also the new OHV V8s such as the L92 6.2L that is seeing duty in the Escalade and Yukon.

In that case I take it, its just a cam phasing VVT?

*EDIT* Just checked and yes its only cam phasing, better than nothing though, and good to see it on a pushrod engine. :)

Nah.. we're americans. We're supposed to be complacent.;) Wanting better? what's that?

I can't believe this hasnt been mentioned yet...(unless it's that VW engine, but I don't think it is)
The first Modular engine - aka Overhead cams? just a thought, as they've already pretty much replaced the pushrod design

I'd say that VW's flat four is the one. yes, it's bit thirsty for a fourbanger, but still, if VW sold over 22 million cars with that engine it has to be good.

...I think they literally just stopped putting the old flat four in production vehicles in Brasil, as the last Beetles rolled off the line a few years ago in Mexico.

So that would mean the flat-four has been around since the mid 1930s, meaning that the engine was in production for nearly 80 years, not including the aftermarket ones that are still being made to this day. That would mean that GM has another 30 years to catch up with the small-block!

Yep.. 80 years.. Wow! Does any other motor come close? Not even the stovebolt and it's successors can match up to that.

The Stovebolt was introduced in 1927, but was changed in 1962, and the 250 lasted until the early 90s? That's only 60 years.

Innovative?

How about the one that started it all, the Daimler internal combustion engine?

But Herr Diesel invented the IC engine in 1876. 10 years before Karl's 3 wheeler. ;)

Gottlieb did invent the motorcycle, in 1885.

Granted, it didn't have a spark plug, and ran off of soybean oil, but that's not the point. As IMAdreamer said, Herr Diesel's little toy is what's keeping the world moving today.
