The side view isn't that bad (but also not anything special).

The front however is a disaster. Looks worse than a dumpster fire cybertruck.

IDK, This looks slightly better than Cybertruck. This looks like a result of designers trying to be hip while Cybertruck looks like a result of 4 year old with a crayon.

But still both looks bad IMO.

What design language are Jjaguar going for? Brutalism in auto design? Continuing the Bauhaus movement? Jaguar says it’s fearless and free from convention. Seriously, no dad jokes, Jaguar need to do more than making big blocks of hard pastel.

I’m going to let up a little and see where they’re going. Hyundai are embracing their Eighties nostalgia with the Hyundai Ioniq and 74. BMW are calling on their E30 years with their current line of cars. Jaguar haven’t designed any squarebiz cars. So, it’s a new adventure for the brand. Wonder if they’ll ever go GT racing in the distant future.

Looking better then the Cybertruck is not exactly the highest bar to clear and from what I can tell, this car seems to at best contain only 4 more polygons.

I think this and the cybertruck both belongs to a new kind of design language, with extremely simplified naive geometry for the purpose of provoking negative response, which as we all know maximises the exposure of the brand. They want you to talk about how bad the new Jaguar is, because that means you're talking about Jaguar.

Edit: Perhaps this new style should be called "meme-ism"? Purposely creating something so ugly that it becomes a meme.

Well, to be honest Jaguar needed to do SOMETHING, they have basically been a dead brand for a long time and at least people are talking about them again.

The design is really not my cup of tea though…

Not really sure I agree with the Elon Musk tactic of making extremely questionable decisions in the desperate search for relevance.

Was wondering why the new Kia K4 looked familiar.

Not being funny, but it's like when Marvel hired people to make their Disney+ shows. People who had not read any Marvel comics about the characters they were given to write about.

Why the ad agency and not whoever penned the actual car?

If the car looked fantastic - or even not just totally awful in every way, then the adverts wouldn't have been so derided.

'Jaguar man' is in his 70's and 80's now. 'He's' not going to be buying many cars going forward. It's clear that Jaguar needed to modernise their image. That should of started with an amazing looking concept, but it didn't, instead we got this... thing. And it appeals to no one of any generation.

So they can blame the consultants they hired, instead of the people at Jaguar that told them what they wanted ;)

Turns out completely disregarding and disrespecting your history to push yourself towards Bentley territory and ending production of all your current cars without a transition plan was a bad idea

For what it's worth, it IS planned to be several magnitudes more affordable than the Spectre and (likely) whatever Bentleys gonna throw at us. I guess it's still a Jag in that sense.

Wait... did you think they were still hoping to sell cars despite not making them anymore?

I kinda thought from the ad campaign that they might be planning to pivot into a fashion/lifestyle brand that also happens to sell luxury cars, but given how poorly that was received it's not too hard to think that if there were any potential plans for that, they'd be quickly scrapped and now they have no idea what to do next.

I don’t get how Jaguar is so bad at building cars people want to buy. A brand with that legacy, it should be easy!

Get back to the drawing table, design a new E-Type with slightly more modern design but with all the classic traits intact. Price it well below the 911.

Build a beefed up and cool XJ with retro styling and premium interior with lots of leather and wood.

Go HARD on the legacy thing, build cool cars that reminisce of the glory days and build the best interiors. Give them an attractive price compared to other luxury brands.

Easy 😎

Exactly the G-Type thing. Coupe and convertible to keep things simple. Keep SUV board members far away.

How they market it is a separate issue. The fact remains that they announced years ago they'd be stopping production before introducing new models - which is where they're at now. Whether or not the re-brand has worked for them, or if they pivot again, is nothing to do with the current sales figures.

Anywho...
