Japanese PS2 games on PS3

Hello, I hope I have this in the right area. Can someone tell me if a Japanese PS2 game will work on a American PS3 ? Thanks.

Nope. On a backwards compatible PS3, PS2 discs continue the region locking that they had on the original systems. Ditto PSX discs on all PS3s.

Ok thanks. That's really a shame. The Japanese get good games that we don't.

But what about Japanese PSX games downloaded from the Japanese PSN? I want to get LSD, but... I am lazy. And I don't want to buy it to find that I can't play it.

You can play it as long as your tv supports it. I have a few EU PSX games that I downloaded from PSN. They work fine on the console, but my tv doesn't support PAL.

The should work fine though the Japanese games they have are not great from what I've seen so far. It really is a shame there is such a small selection of classic games on the PS store though considering they took away the backwards compatibility.

Man, I've watched a few videos of the gameplay and that game is scary!

Anything bought off PSN is region less, and that includes PSOne Classics. As F1Fan aptly pointed out, as long as your TV can play those games, then your golden. Though, Japan and the US share the same standard(NTSC, or 480i) than PAL (580i).

Cool, thanks. I just made a Japanese PSN account to have a look at what they've got on there, there's a lot of PlayStation Classics but barely any PS2 games. LSD is indeed on there, as is Vigilante 8!

Thanks for checking though. I don't like how they region locked ps2 games. I know you can get around it, but I'm probably not going to go through all that work to do it.
