JGTC S2 Round 4 Race + Results

did my first race last night.

ouch, some major tire wear in the front.

really, i ran the whole race with the combo of RH/RS

that´s right, don´t think anyone had to do that, maybe VTracing, but it makes the balance of the car horrible. at least the tire wear is pretty even with this.

so i only pitted two times, but even with this, the race was forgettable. ended up 59 seconds behind the mclaren. and i don´t think i have much to gain. then i tested takata and RX-7. even with all his weight, curtis will easilly beat the AI (no mclarens for the takata) and pit only twice. the RX-7 races against that mighty mclaren, but can beat him

so, not much for me this round, also waiting to see what i can do in laguna. but i will rerun, i canpt get last place again, i´m going down in the standings 👎

just for an example of much i´m having understear: i can´t take the first corner flat out, only in lucky situations and with green tires. i know, that´s ridiculous. my pit crew is working on a solution right now...

My car burned out the fronts heaps faster than the rears too. But I hate mixing tyres, makes the car feel funny. I could probably get away with going RH/RH and just changing the rears every second stop. But as there are 4 pit-crew-wheel-change-guys, you're really not saving any time.

That's really bad if you can't take the first corner flat-out all the time. I can take that flat with red fronts, although maybe your car is going alot faster. The RX-7 doesn't seem to have alot top end speed.

In my best race (my first one), I didn't have the McLaren. I had a race yesterday with it, and it just got in my way and was a general pain...

drafting the mclaren, i got 301Kp/h one time.

without draft i can´t get 280 :yuck:

yes the car sucks with mixing up tires, but a single pit is worth 35 seconds, or even more, so the gamble might pay off.

my strategy has to be drafting the panoz and the mclaren all the way, maybe i have a chance doing this

Havn't seen the McLaren in any of my races, just the GT-R. Ran two races so far, 1 with RH the other with RM, funny thing is the RH race was 1 second faster overall :yuck: . Just lapped the field on the last lap too. Will be running this a few more times this weekend.
Happy Holidays All :sly:

Managed to make my first race yesterday on RH/RH. It was possible to make 2 pit stops, but the last 2 laps (specially the last one) was made with red tyres in front, loosing 6-8 secs on that last lap and 3-4 on the previous one. I guess it pays off against a 3 pit stops strategy, but I'll have to check...

No Hollidays here, but for all of you on holliday (guess only in States...), have a nice Thanksgiving (not sure if well written... but the wishes are the best)

I'm kicking myself since I failed to get in on this program soon enough, so I'm sitting out this round, but I just wonder if it's considered bad form to give any input on "unofficial" participation.

The reason I asked is that I've run two rounds of the GT500 class, one using EV4L's Motul Pitwork car, with his exact setup, and one using Casio's RX7 LM car, with his exact setup, and adhering to all the other rules just as the official participants are required to do. In both races I had to deal with the rocketship McLaren, and I applied the experience of the first race in the second race, with very interesting results.

My personal opinion of the RX7 is that it is so good that it's almost a cheater. Not quite, but almost. Casio is so fast anyway that I might bet that he was actually a little bored during the 50 laps.

My own experience involved breathing so much of the McLaren's exhaust that I felt I needed some (virtual) O2 after the race.

But it was great fun, and certainly not boring. So now I'm intrigued to hear some of the 500 class guys relate how they figured out how to blow the doors off that "un-draftable, un-loosenable, don't pass him going down into turn three", little sucker.

hehe, i would love if you run with my car, my specs and tell me what do you think... nice to see if an complaining too much or i have a point...

curious to see what do you think. btw, welcome to the series, great fun here 👍

Ok, time for me to rant about my troubles with high speed tracks and the NSX's of doom.

First, I would like to say that I have been lapped yet again. Actually, almost lapped twice. Those NSX's are just way to fast for me to keep up with, and since I can only get about 10 laps on a RM/RS tire combo, and they can get 17 laps on a RM/RM combo, this is getting more desperate by the second.

So, I am only just as fast as they are in a drafting position, and I can only run almost half of what they can run. There is no way I can possibly beat them.

Another thing these NSX's do is run together. Two of them pit earlier than the other two, and the two that pit earlier run together for the whole race. This adds about 2 seconds to thier laps times, because they draft with each other. By the end of 50 laps these two had almost lapped the other two NSX's.

To wrap this up, I feel way too underpowered for these high speed race tracks(HSR and R246), but when we go to lower speed tracks with more turns, my car will be much faster than the rest of the field. What should I do? :boggled:

If by turn 1 you're referring to the whole banked turn including the sharpening kink at the end, then I can't take it flat out either. I always have to lift ever so slightly (drop about 6-10kph) on the entrance to the kink to get the car to turn in, otherwise I'm gonna be eating armco for dinner :)

I've never seen the McLaren in my races, which might tell you something about how balanced the field is overall. My biggest rival is the Nissan Skyline GT-R Concept, though not at this track. I ended up lapping him this time around, I usually struggle to beat him at other tracks.

But I second fasj6418's comment...you feel like doing some runs in my Skyline? :D I just don't have the time to run comparitive tests.

Well that's how it often works in RL racing, some cars are better suited to some tracks, though I do think we might have a bit of an unbalanced field this season in GT500. My Nissan is about mid-field I think, fast but not a monster, with solid handling marred by a bit of understeer. I guess just try to make the most of those tracks where your car is fast and hope for a better draft slot next season ;)

hmmm, dont wanna critisize ~ because you are all good drivers

but for the first corner, your guys lines might be wrong?

stay high untill you know you can dive in

Some of you guys think you'll end up with the win on each round, just forget it. Once you've got a win in the season you should be satisfied with that. :sly: Hell some past years I know JGTC class winners who never won an actual race the whole year and get the championship (I'm talking real life). The fact that we have so many different winners this season makes it ten times better, almost every round it's a new car shining through...and that I must admit makes me happy. I don't like domination and repetitive winners, so I must admit I have a big :) so far on how things are going.

Well, apart from VTRacing and his RX-8s amazing qualifying ability....

But it is good how we have only had one clean sweep of a round in each division, brings things nice and close. Now if only that clean sweep of both divisions weren't in the same round, on the same team.....!!!:dunce:

I feel your pain, well, a quarter of it, the NXS in my race only pitted twice, once on lap 18, and then again on lap 36. It's kinda hard to beat him when he only pits twice.

race day ~ 11am green flag drops

pitted on lap 17, 33

no penalties ~ super clean race

Times submitted...no penalties, no hits, no errors.....also no first place! Oh well I'm just getting my feet wet this week. Good Luck everyone!!

After all, didn't have time for another try. My job didn't allow for it.
So, I'm going t send my first and only try.

Maybe next race I won't be so busy.

Craptacular time submitted. 👎

Only had one shot at the race this week and i messed up the pit strategy. Hopefully i will lose so weight for laguna next week.

Ahh. More weight gone for next week. I think I'll put alot of time into next week, and I have no school on Friday, so I will run lots then.

damn 2 penalties D: - 2 stops however
no time for another try.

Time submitted.

Unfortunately I know of at least two cars that can run this race faster than I did, (I know because I did a full race test with one of them) so if I get on the podium here I'll be lucky.

It's frustrating for me because these two rounds (tokyo and HSR) should be the best for the RX-8 in terms of race result, yet I'm still struggling to overcome the tyre wear.

My best hope for the championship is to keep trying to rack up points for pole positions, because the next couple of races will be tough.

Time submitted.

I only had time for a single full run this week, but I think it was solid, so we'll have to see.

I went to the final round of the Australian V8 Supercars at Phillip Island yesterday. Some very awesome racing there. These Aussies have really figured out how to make big heavy sedans fly ;) Lots of support races too, including a Lotus Elise/Exige formula, very cool!

Anyway, good luck to everyone!

Does the NSX have amazing tire wear or something. Thats how long the 01' JGTC NSX's would last on RM. What tires were you using? Actually, I think it would be cool if everyone posted how long there tires lasted and what-not, since EV4L doesn't actually post the pit stratigies(does he?).

hotboi would have been running some combination of hards to get 17 laps.

As for myself in the RX-8:

RH/RM pit lap 13 (fronts very orange)
RH/RM pit lap 26 (ditto)
RH/RM pit lap 38
RH/RM to finish.

I found I had to drive very carefully to make the tyres last for 13 laps, minimal squealing of tyres and extremely smooth steering inputs. Driving the same way with the RX-7 I could get 17 laps at nearly the same speed (ie 0.2-0.3 per lap slower).

So that means that I couldn't do the race with less than 3 stops, while most other GT500 cars could manage 2....and that's 35-40 seconds I have to make up on the track with faster lap times.

But that's been the story the whole season.

EDIT: Zeratul, glad you enjoyed the V8s. They're quite impressive aren't they?
600hp, skinny tyres and 1300kg =

17 LAPS! I assume you're talking about my RX-7, no way in hell could I get 17 laps out, even on Hard tyres. I had more or less the same pits as you, (13/26/39), except I was running RH/RH. By lap 14 my front tyres would be completely shot. The only thing is that I was driving like a mad man to make up my extra pit stop, and drifting the 2nd corner most of the time. But that would kill my rears rather than my fronts.

Maybe I used the wrong gearing or something :nervous:

ran a race...not too good as i lost focus a few times and turned some really crappy laps, but no time to redo it so sending in

pitted 17 and 34

hopefully my drafting stint with the AI will reward me a good best lap :)

best of luck to all

Update with the teams.

Saleen Man pulled out of full-time racing for team Shxxxt! in GT500
MisterWeary pulled out of full-time racing for team Cus-trol Team Australia in GT300

So we have Soyfu (GT300) and ls2_297 (GT500) left to form a team. Either you two decide to keep Shxxxt! or Cus-trol Team Australia for your team name.

Nah dude, I got the right line, but at full throttle on hard fronts there is no way my Skyline will turn in enough to clip the apex of the kink, except for about 1-2 laps per stint when the tires are just right, and even then I don't dare risk it because I'm more practiced with my lift-off approach, so when I do try the full throttle turn-in if I get it wrong I'm in the wall on the exit.

However, I think this might be one of those situations where the DS2 helps you, since it's possible to time a "hard turn" (pressing the D-Pad all the way and holding it) with more stability than with the DFP. With the wheel if you turn a bit too far or don't get the angle right, quickly, the fronts scrub and you've had it. Haven't tried this turn with the DS2 in my car though, so I dunno, maybe it's just your car :)

Dude, what are you complaining about with tire wear then? That's the same story for me. I could push out to 14 laps if I were VERY cautious, and that lap would end with bright red fronts (well right-front). I think your tire wear is pretty comparable then, plus you have more power. I want my RX-8 back ;)

600hp, skinny tyres and 1300kg =
Yeah, I'm particularly fond of the impressive jets of flame from the exhausts on downshifts, they're really managed to fine-tune that aspect :D Do they run production-size tires? They aren't too skinny, but I recall they looked to be about 235's...

Surprisingly the Chrysler 300C pace car sounded a whole lot better than the race cars accelerating out of the corners :) Hemi fans will agree I'm sure.

I did 13 laps on RH-RM, 14 pushing it to the limit with bright red tires up front.

Hmmm, well I could definitely get 17 good laps with Casio's RX-7 but only by not sliding at all. And by doing that I got a race time 12 seconds faster than mine.

How about this, I'll give Zeratul his RX-8 back if I can have Casio's RX-7. :p
