JGTC S2 Round 9 Qualif + Results

Nice work Casio, and to everyone. This was one of the closest qualifying sessions I think, with the top 6 in GT500 within 1 second.

I am very proud of my lap too, I reckon it's one of the best laps I've ever driven in GT4. I was sitting on a 1'12.303 for a while, knowing that there was more time to be found and fiddling with settings. Eventually I put everything back to where I started, pumped myself up a bit, hit start and pulled that lap out cold...

The RX-8 is a dream around this track. It's so stable (some people call it understeer :p ) and seems to have a lot of downforce, so you can just turn it in and it will hold a good line through the long corners. I've yet to try it in race setup, but I think I'm going to have to moderate my style a bit to save the front tyres in the sweepers. No tyre squealing allowed.

Congrats to all the podium getters. 👍

Story of my life!

My roommate always laughs at me when I beat my lap record and then exclaim, "There's no way I'm beating that!" Because when I actually do it, I genuinely feel like there's no way for me to go any faster. But then I take a break and come back and beat it the first try.

I'm convinced it's all about visualization and letting your subconscious mind do the work for you. I always come back after a break and go faster.

Settings? Race setup? :odd: You mean fiddling with your top speed setting?

I ran that RX-8 today...

That thing is unreal...After 5 laps, I had 1'12.4. My very first lap was a 1'12.8...

It's actually got 10mph more straight line speed then my RX-7....

Stop reminding me, as a rotary fan (and because it's ) I wanted that car but VTRacing was higher in the lottery than me :(

:dunce: :dunce: :dunce: :dunce: :dunce:

interesting to see if i can get a good pick in season 2, i think i know all avaliable cars right now...

and casio, you liked the RX-8... and its +7 on the weight... imagine with 0... but your mazda is also great... not only in real life, but also in the game, i´ll take a RX-7 over a RX-8 anytime...

so you´re lucky...

guess number 1, 2 and 3 - you drive a RX-8 in real life.

they are both high performance cars, i just think the RX-7 is more of a sport car while the RX-8 is kind of a laid back, calm sport car...

but i´m yet to drive one of those, so you should know better...

lucky guy, i only have a modest 1998 corolla in real life...

I've been away, but never out. Love this JGTC Series.

As for next season, You can always count on me. I'll try to bring at least 2 more portuguese pilots (Thurzo and Tm1) to form a Team or 2 (maybe with a third pilot). Presently, they are racing in the Portuguese JGTC season I'm hosting.

It has been a pleasure to race among such a pleasant mix of host, pilots and season structure. I'll be here for the next ones.

And @ Soyfu, don't be worried. I'll only break the team if you want me to or if there's a possibility to form 2 portuguese teams; but always with your permission :sly:.

Let's see if I can be fast enough to disrupt some winning perspectives on these two final races...:)

Yeah the RX-7 is a beautiful car, although I never drove one in RL. I wouldn't call the RX-8 "laid back" though...she's a beast when you open her up

cool, so that would make two franciscos in one series... what are the odds of that happening?

i know they are both great drivers, so it should be nice to the series.
i´m glad everybody is aiming to return for next season. we will only have a break of a week or so and then ready to roll again:tup:

The RX-7 that I'm driving in this season, is alot more tail happy then that RX-8.

The best example was the first corner that I tried today. On R2s, my RX-7 just wanted to bring the rear around and 360. Where the RX-8, just cornered perfectly flat.

I hope we have more than a week break between seasons...2-4 weeks would fit perfectly into my travel schedule (nudge nudge) :D

Yes, and also with different tyres front and rear. I've picked up tenths in qualifying before by testing with 310, 300, and 290 top speed settings. It's not always as simple as aiming to hit the redline at the end of the longest straight. Sometimes you may get more benefit from being in a different zone of the powerband coming out of certain corners.

And I also usually try running with RSS/RS front and rear. As Casio said, the RX-8 is very stable and corners flat, but sometimes I want the tail to come around a bit.

In terms of race setup, usually RH/RM is the best choice for tyre wear reasons, but at some tracks (like at SSR5) the extra understeer it causes negates any tyre wear advantage. So I have to test different tyre combinations.

EDIT: And lucky you for owning an RX-8, that's a sweet ride...

that would be true. i set my lap with 370 gearing... taller gears are better for most nissans... i also change from RSS/RSS to RSS/RS all the time...

as for the tail ending, i saw so much understear this season that i would even consider a yellow bird, just to feel what the word overstear means...
