I just heard. He was a legend. I loved his song Burning Ring Of Fire, it was simply amazing.

I knew he was in poor health because of his diabetes, and heart problem, and the death of his wife several months ago must have really taken its toll, but it's still a shock.

That MTV video of Trent Razor's song was amazing. You really felt the heart and soul of that man, and all the things he has accomplished in his life.

Heart felt sympathies for his family and friends. He will be missed.

BTW, John Ritter from 3's Company also died. Sad day for two reasons. I loved that show growing up.

Both will be missed. :(

I've been meaning to buy the albums of covers he'd done recently. Guess they'll be popular now.

I think I saw him live when I was about 8 or 9 - my late father was pretty heavily into him in the '70s.

Most people liked him in the late 60's, to early 70's. He was bigger than most Rock Stars. He was also an actor. I just saw the episode of Columbo he did. He was a great entertainer.

Fark a duck, only read today in the newspaper that he just got out of hospital, and now hearing (reading) this

Sad news, lost a great entertainer here

R.I.P

Wow, I didn't know he was from Arkansas. I've lived in central Arkansas the past 15 or so years.

This is mildly depressing, but I think we all (Cash fans) saw it coming rather soon.

Very sad. But it was expected and all with his health problems. But John Ritter on the other hand, that was very unexpected. Both will be very missed.

Johnny Cash is the only man to get inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame, The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and The Songwritters Hall of Fame. What an amazing feat.

I remember growing up hearing him on my Dads LPs. I know most of the words from much of his biggest hits because of my Dads albums. The original Man in Black.

Anyway, For a day or 2 I will change my avatar in his honor. I hope no one is offended by it even though it is uncharacteristic of me to put one up like this I think it fits him.

Gods speed JR.

I was never a huge Johnny Cash fan, but he did make some great music and the world has definetly lost a great man with the death of Johnny Cash.

Thanks for posting this, vat_man. Somehow I never got around to it, because I figured it wouldn't raise much response. I'm glad to hear all the different folks here recognizing what an important man he was.

I just bought American IV about 10 days before his death, with a number of great covers on it and some good originals. There never was another songwriter who could put his most personal thoughts so directly into his music.

R. I. P., Mr. Cash. I hope you got to meet your God.

RIP, the Man in black.

Belated condolences from this here newbee.

reason for posting this : new doubler out. "Unearthed", kinda part of the series: 'American Recordings' . And since the Man in Black has moved to the big never ending poker game in the sky, this box is a final tribute by produer Rick Rubin, the man who made the final series since '94.

This ain't no meaningless country shicken ****, but this is the real, blackest Cash stuff you ever find. Check it out.
