Well, im considering joining the British army, and after watching this DVD im considering it even more, its too good an oppurtunity too turn down. My question to GTP members is, do any of you have any experiance or Army life of any kind? Post what you think here! :D

My dad was in the U.S. Army/Air Forcefor 12 years. I don't know about the British Army but the U.S. Military has you moving alot. We moved 6 times in those 12 years but it did supply free medical insurance. I didn't hate moving that much so I didn't really mind having a military life.

In a few years I plan to join the Air Force and mabey purse being a fighter pilot because my vision is still within range to be one.

In the british army you move alot less but it does depend on what divison of the army you join. My dad was in the british army for 17 years and even though he tells me its the best fun hes ever had he also has told me to never join but he doesnt mind me joining the RAF. I was considering joining the RAF as they would pay me a decent wage for my age and train me up as a engineer all for free leaving me with a bundle of money to just spend on cars. But then I couldnt really bare of the thought of not living near london (they might have posted me up north) and so because I personally think anywhere outside of london in the uk is a bit poo I decided not to join and just do a aprenticeship instead. Maybe the wrong decision as im 100% sure that I would have heaps of fun in the army or the RAF but I didnt really want to leave civilization and my friends behind.

All I can say is what do you dream of becoming when your older and how would the army fit in to your plans?.

I kinda want to join the army, but I think it's just from watching all those war movies. Which really isn't a real good reason to join. Plus I'm in Canada, the only enemy we have is our 100 year old equipment. And I'd rather not die in a beat up british sub.

Haha thats so true.

Canada never goes to war nowadays, so it might be a good idea to join the army for university education finances. 💡 I wouldn't join though. I hate real guns. I'll stick with FPS games.

Do you honestly think that after inventing the CanadArm that our army's equipment is even over 30 years old? The subs and a few planes might be, but our gear is cutting edge, along with the training.

And what the hell do we need subs for, anyway? The Americans have so many damn tridents out there we might as well just save a couple hundred million dollars.

i know in england there is some thing called ACT Air Cadet Training if you wanna join the army that will give you a taste of what its all about suposedly

I wonder who the world experts in submarine rescue are...

I'm planning on joining the RAF and I've done some Army challenges through my school.

One thing though, the rations while taste nice, lack any fibre... As me and my mate found out a day later.

During the winter months of pissing rain, and the summer months of being taxed for breathing, we Brits, a melancholy race, prone to casual violence and binge drinking, come up with all sorts of engineering solutions to wierd and wonderful hypotheticals.

If we weren't so perpetually bored, we'd never solve anything.

Oh ye because your 16 your going to have to go in the cadets first till your 17 I belive. I heard the cadets arent too much fun. if I was you I would not join untill 17 and just see if untill your 17 you might have found something else you want to do.

Or is it that we export so many of our old submarines and need to cover our asses when things go wrong?

Well, we recently rescued a Russian-made DSRV (which was itself used in the recovery, albeit ultimately fruitless, of the Kursk)...

Ash, are you stilling going to go through University?

They can give you grants (RAF £5000 @ Southampton) and also you'll go in with a higher pay and will have a degree so you can hit Civy street when you leave.

You will probably need to do cadets in Uni.

I know about that, I might be 15 but I do keep up with the news.

I was going to join the United States Marine Corps, but I failed the physical do to a constant heart problem of mine. So well at least I tried to join up, I really wanted to enlist but just couldn't. Oh well there are other things that I can do to serve my country.

I don't believe that they are cutting edge, weapons wise we are above average. But our men have the most fire power per person. Other countries have too many men and can't equip them like we can. Our solidiers equipment isn't much compared to the US. Tanks and such are improving, actually Canada had been using it's world war 2 vehicles since about 2 years ago. Now they use mercedes g-wagons.

Our army is really really small with only 56,000 men and women. But all this is really irrelavent. Canada is a peacekeeping country, we don't need firepower, it's a respected nation that doesn't pick fights with other countries. We had one of the most powerful armies in the world, just look into ww1 and ww2. Keeping the peace.

Im not sure, see how it is after a few years or 4 (minimum commitment).

I can get a lot of qualifications at the army, NVQs, Btecs etc, as well as all my driving licesnes, hgv, ocv, car, bike etc, plus be fully trained in a number of sports! :D

First though, medical and fitical, medical is what im dreading, im perfectly healthy, but you need to stand naked while they check your privates (private:D). Fitical, 1.5 mile run the press ups and sit ups. After that for combat it will be 24 weeks training, then il come back and do whatever before going back for minimum of 4 years. Il lose a lot of GTP time.

1.5 mile you should ace if your doing footy.

Yes you can get alot of qualifications via the forces but if you have a Degree you can enter as an officer.

So... Your goal is to become a person that drop bombs to kill people?
Americans need to get a grip!

Uh you realize if you are a fighter pilot, when you get out of the air force you can make a ton of money flying passenger planes? I think joining the Air Force is a great idea.

Yes he's just going to kill people . No idiot he's serving his country.

I had a 4 yr stint with the us marines, even served along side british royal marines in iraq.

Their tough, real tough, and bloody perveted! we were taking a group photo and he rested his package on my shoulder!

you have to be REALLY dedicated, as if there is no reason to stay in the normal world. If its to get away, there couldnt be a better thing, thats what i did.

now im hotpoo

I have 7 years of service in the South Carolina Army National Guard. I'm in a communications unit. D Company 111th Signal Battalion. I have served in Iraq (along side some british army blokes, those guys were a trip) and almost went for a 2nd tour (not on the list this time). Soldiers from my unit leave next week for the 2nd tour. Any military service is an experience. Some of it is great some not so great but its a unique experience none the less. I joined for one reason, to pay for college. My service will be ending in January and i will definately miss all the guys that i've been working with the past 7 years. Some are my close friends and i'll still see them all the time though.
