I could see the FIA leave the pole grid slot empty to honor Jules at Hungary.

They done the same for Senna and Ratzenberger at Monaco by leaving the first row empty.

I always wondered if there are pictures from this tribute? I was born in '91, so way too young to have seen it myself and so I never really could find anything on Google or Youtube.

What about the VSC?

As mentioned over the last few pages; there's a rumour that the VSC will be deployed on lap 17 in memoriam. Personally I think it's without foundation but, as somebody else just noted, we'll wait and see.

On a grumpy aside, as tragic as the course of events has been, I can't wait to see the turd-jam of awful Photoshop "tributes" to end.

Such a Grumpy grump grumpster.

Unfortunately, since it's F1, the largest possible group of semi-motorsport fans want to jump on the bandwagon, so I kind of agree with you.

Yeah... In the end it just ends up as a pissing contest on who can generate the most feels, rather than actually pay tribute.

With regard to the suggested VSC on lap 17 - I don't think a tribute to a racing driver should be to temporarily prevent racing from happening. I can't imagine Jules, or any other driver, would be happy with that.
NASCAR did a silent lap 3 but no safety car after the death of Dale Earnhardt during the 2001 season.

Perhaps all of the commentators can remain silent on lap 17 to pay tribute.

I see there are now spreading news reports about the minute's silence at the Hungarian GP and, as reported in this thread, the "retirement" of #17 from driver numbering. No news at all about a lap 17 VSC - the complete lack of a suggestion outside Facebook or this forum (as far as I'm aware) leads me to think that it was never a concrete proposition.

If anything, I think the use of a VSC on lap 17 would be cruelly ironic considering it was Jules's fatal crash that prompted it being brought to F1.

The earliest mention I can find of it is here in this thread when someone suggested it.

I think that a minutes silence or a minutes revving on the grid, followed by a single formation lap by the cars holding french flags would be sufficient. Maybe a silent lap from the commentators on lap 17 too.

Nothing that could change the outcome of the race.

Bianchi's funeral is under way, as expected a number of F1 drivers are attending.

It's actually the only place that I've seen it... I just mentioned FB as the original poster of the idea claimed to have seen it there.

That would seriously affect the outcome of the race. A still F1 car is a dying F1 car.

Hamilton, Rosberg, Vettel, Massa, Hulkenberg, Vergne are all also there.
Grosjean, Massa, Vettel and Vergne were pallbearers too.

I have seen some people on Jalopnik with the photo of JEV wearing a blazer with the Ferrari logo on it. Sadly many peple have forgotten that Jules was in line to drive for Ferrari. He had a best time at Silverstone earlier in the year when Kimi crashed out during the British GP race. Jules was also part of Ferrari driver academy and was loaned out to Marussia to make his way up the chain as they say. Pretty sure mention already, that if Kimi had left Jules would take his seat or if they went to a 3 car team Jules would get car number 3. It saddens me that people do not complete full research into what is going on.

Yes I mention the VSC during lap 17. I have not seen anything else for it online outside of FB post I saw. If they do it or don't, so be it. That what I had the note about I will remove it if not true.
