Alright guys big update:

I got my car! From the choice between the Optima & the Mazda6, I chose...

Mazda6 '15

It's clean for sure. I dunno how much those go for though. But it's an Automatic. You sure? I haven't heard any horror stories from older Nissan owners, but hey if the car speaks to you, who are we to say no?

Let's see... the owner made the smart decision to tint the windows dark to hide the scarlet interior.

BUT the wheels are stupid...

Meaning he is probably an idiot...

Meaning he has likely not taken good care of the car.

The car was built in the middle of the dark age of the auto industry, but it looks like one of the few cars from that time that turned out somewhat good.

Would I ever drive one? Heck no.

Or because it's hot and it blocks UV rays and reduces cancer, or because window tinting is sick
Do you expect the stock rims to last 35 years?
Most Nissan drivers are idiots
Engine bay looks pretty clean.

I got tint to hide my vinyl seats, or "pleather" steats, as I like to call them. Horrible material.

Not all aftermarket rims look that idiotic.

I say if you can't decide on a new wheel style, just get some that look like they came of a NASCAR. Black, Silver, Chrome, any color will look good on just about any cheap car.

I'm assuming it's RWD, but it has an automatic. Instant fail.

Also, I know nothing about what engine it has in it, but suspect a serious lack of horsepower. How much does it have?

I actually really like that interior.

But needs a V8. :D

JK.

It's got a 2.2L Inline-4, that's all I know about it. *shrugs

Since it's older I can't imagine it has much more than 100 horsepower. But hey if it's clean and low mileage it probably has some oomph to it =P

It's got 118,000 miles, not sure to say whether or not that's good for a car that old

Just found out that the 1980 200SX produces about 103 HP.

That would be the Z22E, which had a blistering 103 HP. That's already dangerously slow with a manual, and this has a 3-speed torque-converter automatic circa 1981. Just walk away.

Hmmm... Well, If there's something wrong with the engine I'm sure you can source a nice V8 from a junk yard :D
That either means:
It's been sitting for a LONG time
Rarely driven but city miles
Very rarely driven but highway miles

None of those sound good...

True... Those could be a possibility.

Or an Inline-6 haha

Seeing as how this could potentially be a bust, what are some good (or better) alternatives, if any?

With 116k on it, I'd say horsepower has dropped to about 80 at best and that's if you wind it up. At 2krpm where most of your driving is done, you'd probably have may 1/4 of that. Gutless car, I wouldn't waste my money on it. Especially if it's an auto.

I don't know.

I don't know what your budget is, or exactly what you're looking for. I don't know what cars were sold in the Philippines, and may not know much about any that weren't sold here. Maybe if you mention some of the other cars on the list it'll give me a general direction to think in.

Probably 70s-Early 2000s Japanese sports cars... I'll edit Top post with what I'll find.

Also I'm living in the US, forgot to change my region, sorry about that "^^

If you're getting a first car, I wouldn't recommend something older. Older cars tend to...well break down. I'd say a Nissan 240SX should be fine to start with, it's got all the creature comforts like A/C and Cruise Control, and it's a blast to drive. Or a Mitsubishi Eclipse or something. I'd say go 90's Japanese cars, they tend to have the bulletproof reliability along with the modern engineering to keep it strong. :)

Any possibility of going to see it and going for a test drive? It'd be nice to see if it's as gutless as it sounds, or if it has enough charisma and adequate power to win you over.

^ This.

Don't just buy a car. Go see it first and give it a test run, you don't know if something's wrong with the car unless you drive it and see for yourself.

As asinine as it is to claim a 100hp car is "dangerously slow", I still have to agree with W&N, you probably wouldn't like one with an ancient dim-witted automatic. But if you've got the cash and the motivation, a manual swap could result in a unique and fun ride. It does look quite clean!

You could pull the motor out and put something else in but that would probably cost a decent amount of money. I guess you have some point.

Swapping the engine is the easy part. Its having the drivetrain behind it that can hold it all.

But I you do your homework you can save serious money.

I've seen one over here with a sr20det swapped in it was making about 250hp
It had nice interior and a 5 speed manual for ~$5200(us dollars)
But the exterior was terrible
The one you posted looks really good so it could be a good deal

With that engine, it's not worth it unless he wants to get outrun by a tortoise and have a hard time getting up hills.

Ford 2.3L. Reliable. Tons of cheap go fast parts. Good gas mileage. Easy to work on. Bajillions of them. Cheap to buy. Win.
