....and loving it. It feels weird to be able to drive alone, though. Three day weekend, too! What great timing.

I was driving alone illegally for 5 months and got busted. Yeah! 👍

Congratulations Zrow. Obey all posted speed limit signs. :)

Do you have a license to die?

Because you just know someone is going to make you cry blood because you posted in a year-old thread.

cry blood...god that makes me laugh when I hear it....just like " gonna rip off your arm and beat you with the wet end "

Lmao. Some funny replies then.

Quick_Nick, just a suggestion. Don't bring up threads like that to post something pointless. In fact, you need a good reason to do it.

Hey, my thread. This really is old, I've had my license a year and have already gotten a ticket, not to mention been rear-ended.

Haha. Lucky YOU got rear-ended, and you didn't rear-end someone else, for insurance purposes.

I want my 'P' plates. Bad.

This is kinda funny because I just got my license on sep 3. and one month later I already have one accident under my belt. It was my moms fault though, she was following me and there was a back up on the exit ramp to the highway that was blind so I had to put my foot through the foor to stop and my mom wasn't so quick, lol

I got a new car out of it though, a 2003 SE-R sec V

nobody got hurt and it was kinda funny if you were there....well no it wasn't but now it is funny looking back. It is healthy to be able to laugh at your **** ups.

It was just a joke! I didn't think you would get so pissy over nothing.
Well, jokes go in the Comedy Corner. Bringing up year old threads like this isn't a joke. It's annoying, pointless and childish.

This is just a lesson.

Hilarious! Man I would kill my mother for even putting a smudge on my car (when I get my car that is :(). It's funny that she wasn't quick enough. All those driving lessons she probably gave you for situations like people braking quickly in front of you, and she couldn' even do it!

Well… just because she's older doesn't necessarily make her the better driver. My mom's been driving for over 35 years now, and I believe (I could be wrong, but I do try to be objective) that I'm already at least up to her level of driving competency (I know I'm nowhere near my dad's, because he can read the road like no other). Granted, I have to give her credit for being a lady who doesn't mind driving a stick shift everyday – And those who know me know I'd be angry to have to drive an auto everyday! :D

Quick_Nick – FYI, bumping up old threads "for the heck of it" is frowned upon at GTP, if you couldn't tell already… however, this has sort of taken a new life, so I won't reprimand you for it.

Well some people need Auto's, especially driving for long distances on jammed up freeways. I rather an Auto, seeing that I'm too lazy to be bothered with a Manual.

Also, why is it that Dad's always seem like the best drivers in the world? I think my Dad is an awesome driver.

You're very lucky Quick_Nick.

Been there, done that, and I'll admit that it's a royal pain in the ass, especially since all three times that that happened to me, it was always on one section of freeway with a very, very steep uphill grade – which means you have to spin the engine even faster just to get the car moving, and slipping the clutch a great deal. Two of those times, I cooked the clutch, so during the last mile or so of the jam the car was shuddering the whole time. Still, that's all easily made up for being able to drive a stick 99% of the time… I'm a control freak, and it gives me peace of mind to know that I have control over the connection between the engine and the tires. In the few times I've driven an auto (only during driver's training sessions), I was really uncomfortable, because it felt like I was driving the cars with a remote control.

Well, my dad drove alone by the time he was 14 (he could get away with that, being the mayor's son), so that might be a part of it. I think he's just a lot more relaxed about it though, while my mom over-thinks every aspect of driving.

Wow, I just came back from driving lesson and I find this ^^
To any experienced driver, is 2 hours of total driving time good to go onto a multilaned busy road?

My mum overthinks, but also speeds. It's a horrible combination some days, but some days she can be a great driver. Other days she's rough with the car. My Dad's calm, but seeing that personality-wise I'm a very calm person, especially in tough situations, he can't out-do me there. Some guy on a round-a-bout sped off instead of waiting for me, and he was probably millimetres off my car. My Dad had a heart-attack, where as I just raised my eyebrow and kept going.

Fine by me.

Try livnig here. Every day on the way down to Sydney, we hit a traffic jam, and on the way back. My Dad loves manuals, and he would rather that 100 times more than an Auto, but it would be absolute hell driving to work for him. Plus, it's a 1 hour drive without traffic, so it can get long in traffic jams. Auto is the way to go if you drive that way and back to work every day.

Well almost every driving lesson I do is 2 hours, but still good nonetheless. :D

Where did you drive?

Oh, mine's the same – she'll gladly fly at 80-85 mph (which roughly equals 129-137 kph) on the freeway, which really unnerves me.

Trust me, my dad knows the feeling. ;) His commute was also about an hour (past-tense, because he just retired), he always drove a stick, and he had to travel on the 405 freeway, which is listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the busiest freeway in the world (and having the longest traffic jams). Freeways aren't very kindly to motorists here... in the past 20 (or 30?) years, California has expanded its freeway network a mere 2.5%, but traffic is up 232%, and you can guess how awful that is.

It wouldn't unnerve me with my Dad, my Mum on the other hand. She travels at around 80 in a 50 zone. (Km/h)

Yeah, I've heard of that one. I feel for him even more, since he's driving a manual.

Why are statistics so over the top in LA? Lol. I mean the crime and murder rate, etc. It does contain Hollywood.

See driving a stick in traffic really doesn't bother me, I have about a 40 minute drive every day to school because I go to a private school in Miami and I live in Fort Lauderdale but anyway I find that I pay attention alot more with a stick and that makes you more likely not to ram into your son :), anyway you just wait for about 4 to 5 car spaces then pull up. Might make the people around you mad but do you really care ;)
