Just a reminder everyone, do a backup right after any GT5 game updates, i don't know how a 2.03 restore fares onto a 2.04 version, for example.

Yes, by far the best solution to not backing up data that you care about properly is to spend £250 on a different console. What happens if you lose data on that one too? Wii?

How are they supposed to provide a backup for your gamesave? It's your data. If you only ever backed up to a USB stick, when you last backed up you will have overwritten a good save with a corrupted one (and corrupted saves are cause by interrupts in the save process).

If it was, you'd have a file to restore and there'd be no problem at all.

Remember - data that doesn't exist in at least three places separated by 7 miles doesn't exist at all. Back it up to a flash drive and put that backup in its own folder on your PC - then you have a whole library of saves to restore in case you somehow corrupt your savegame and then back that up onto your flash drive.

Spending £250 on a different console isn't the solution to losing data. Looking after your data is the solution to losing data.

As I said all data was backed up the thing that is most frustrating is I've had to delete everything now and I'm sat here at 23.03 having to download all the updates ( this was advised by a ps advisor) and then see if a backup from June last year works any races money etc will have gone I never had this problem with my original 60gb model that's for sure

Rinse and repeat.
Play game/ update game.

File corrupt on mem card 3.
Use mem card 2.. not ''June's'' backup.

Of course you'll just write a paragraph of words with no individual sentences telling me ''it was backed up'' right? Maybe some people get what they deserve? No, that's too harsh.. but maybe you'll learn your lesson at least. Maybe.
edit- After reading your ''no sentences'' post again, I'm not sure I'm on your side. Man that is irritating.

I'm so glad I backed up my save, my Ps3 got the yellow light of death a couple days ago and I just bought a new one today, still downloading the 14 updates but hopefully my back up save will load with no problem, and I used my same account so I can redownload all of my dlc for free.

It should work fine but you'll lost pics and replays not exported to XMB before YLOD.

I did a HD backup before getting new PS3 (warranty repair) and I lost some pics and replays because I had to reinstall game even though I had a total HD backup. Didn't lose much as I had lot's exported anyway.

You need to do your backup every time you finish playing, Daily I do mine it takes a few seconds.
Its not the PS3 fault either, this is a problem since since game launched and has been reported thoudands of times.
The main reason game save is lost is because of shutting down incorrectly while its saving. The other known reason is updates, now if you did a save last time you exited the game and it goes tits up you will be fine, Reinstore the save.
As ive said do a backup evey time you exit the game you wont have any problems then.

I don't know, there was no DLC when I went through that. I'd just get game going again with your save file, all up-to-date, then worry about DLC.

The thumbnails were in the old GT Data file and were lost with any pictures or replays that were not exported to the XMB.

Press triangle on one of the cars and refresh the thumbnail. You can also refresh all, but depending on the number of cars in your garage, it can take some time, so be patient and let it finish, if you do refresh all. 👍

Your problem is that the thumbnails are missing. To fix this just press triangle on any car in you garage and go for Create all thumbnails. This will take about 1 hour for both standard and premium cars.

LOL- When I did it, I had to update all thumbnails individually!

It was before the patch that gave you option to update them all at once. I have almost 1,300 cars now, had over 1,000 then. It took me forever!

Only in a freak accident, it won't work. Your data will be ok. Your replays and photos won't be there, but you can still save them from within the game, then onto a hard drive to later be able to restore them.

Also lost the entire console with unrecoverable System file corruption for same thing. Console would not restore from last good backup because of EA's protected Game save files, so had to reload everything from scratch, why I make it a point to never look at anyone's messages in-game anymore, way too dangerous.

Just a comment on the thumbnails thing, I lost my game save due to the FAULTY EUROPEAN PATCH (still angry about that). When I restored my backup, although I had all my cars and DLC and everything else intact, I had lost many of my car thumbnails even though my backup was seemingly fine. Found that strange, however things could have been much worse because of that FAULTY EUROPEAN PATCH...
