Hello, GTPlanet.

Here is a question for people who want meanness in their rides and can haul more than a$$. So what am I talking about? Trucks, fool! The "778 CARS CONFIRMED!!!" had me interested. What if trucks were to be put into GT4? I mean, the Escudo Pikes Peak is based on the Grand Vitara here in the states, and the Grand Vitara is a truck. Subaru had the Forrester in GT2 (and can be race-modified). So, what if some of the bigtime pickups get a chance to shine in GT4? Now, I have trucks and vans to be mentioned, although I want to have trucks only to be mentioned. This would be a nice topic for Blazin to answer, since he's a mini-trucker. If they were to be included, what considerations would have to be made? I'll begin.

Now, I won't begin with my commentary just yet. Instead, I want to do something people may not like me to do. And that is, refer to a few truck examples based on "778 CARS CONFIRMED!!!" and what I seen in past games:

CHEVROLET
El Camino
SSR Concept 2003

DAIHATSU
Midget D-Type

DODGE
RAM (all variations, including the SRT-10)

FORD
SVT Lighting

HONDA
Odyssey

INFINITI
FX45

RENAULT
Espace F1

SUZUKI
Cultus Pikes Peak
Escudo " "

Some GT fans wouldn't want trucks for the same reasons why fans of non-American cars dislike American muscle cars. These reasons include heavy weight and "tank-like" handling. But when you think about it, the Chevy trucks, the Ford SVT Lightning, and the record-breaking Dodge Neon SRT-10 are all capable trucks. If they don't have the handling of their sportscar counterparts, they have the horses to make things happen. And if you don't want to road race, there is always rally. But even then, your truck may be too bulky to handle effectively unless you can acutally configure it to corner off-road.

Would you want trucks in a car-dominated game? Reply now.

1st off. How do you write such big posts?

2nd. You missed the most important ute/truck of all
The HSV Maloo ute. Now that will haul more than a$$.

It would be good to have a ute/truck catagory. Just something to mess around on.

Although I'm not a big fan of any form of American car, and I yet to drive a truck "pickup", I think it would be nice having all forms of vehicles in GT4. There is nothing wrong with a bit of vareity. Indeed it is nice to leave the fast cars once in a while and have a go in something a little more...dare I say it, ordinary.

If PD really wants to make a great racing game for trucks, they must include the GMC Syclone, and Typhoon, the Chevy 454SS, the Dodge Sidewinder concept.

Trucks would be cool. Imagine if they had a Baja-style rally, with jacked up trucks flying ofer sand dunes!

I reckon you should be able to roll it. Imagine the crashes you could have when the AI pile into you. Or if you hit a barrier. Hilux's and all of those types of utes should be included too.

Yeah, Holden utes are the best!

I have to say, that I really would like to see the AM General Hummer in GT. Not the H2, not the H3T, but the original Hummer. If R: Racing can get it, why not Gran Turismo?
The Hummer also has the basics necessary for a competent racing machine, good weight balance, independent all-round suspension and four-wheel drive. Well, why not? It may be a little overweight, it may not know what aerodynamics means, but it would be a heck of a drive when racing against other cars.

I don't mind other offroaders and utility vehicles either. Here are some I would like to see (in addition to those all-ready in-game and on John's list):
- Bowler Wildcat
- BMW X5 4.6is
- BMW X5 4.8is
- Mercedes-Benz G55 AMG
- Mercedes-Benz ML55 AMG
- GMC Typhoon and Syclone (yes, both, they behave differently because of different aerodynamics)
- Toyota Tundra Sidestep
- Ford F100 Concept
- Ford Supervan I, II and III
- Ford RallyTransit

I'll stop there, before I turn my reply into a wishlist.

There are some trucks that I'd want to see, and some I really don't want to see.

The Ram SRT-10 and the Rams with the Hemis would be a good start to the pickup category. Some good SUVs to include would be the FX45, Cayenne Turbo, and others I can't think of atm.

But we definitley don't need minivans (excluding the Espace F1). They are possibly the most useless cars to include in a racing game.

And there's me thinking you're talking about these:

Since when is the Neon considered a Pickup truck?

I hope you mean the SRT Ram.

You missed some of the "confirmed" truck/vans that are already in the works in GT4, they were caught testing in Japan:

-Jeep Wrangler 2.5 Sport
attachment.php

-Land Rover Dicovery Series III HSE (right beside the Volvo V40 on your left)
attachment.php

-Land Rover Range Rover 4.5 HSE
attachment.php

-Misubishi Space Wagon

-Suzuki Escudo/Grand Vitara [not the Pikes Peak version], and 1st gen Toyota Harrier/Lexus RX300 (behind the new Opel Vectra)
attachment.php

I don't know if you can consider this
-Volvo XC70 Cross Country
attachment.php

And the Range Rover Range Sport. This is only truckxs in the 778 car list or so I believe, but now were extending it to confirmed trucks as well, no Lambo is confirmed let alone any of the LM00's.

opps i forgot to say i hope they mite for some reason put them in.

i thought that i heard that PD or Sony or whoever got the licsens for Lamborghini (Pardon my spelling i havent had enough soda yet  )

Just rumours, nothing has been confirmed on that front yet, and forget the sodas, you need some Murphys down your hatch.

Before I read the rest of my already-big topic, Let me make a quick comment. As it relates to Dodge, the SRT-4 is the Neon and the SRT-10 is the Ram. Okay, keep on trucking, folks!

Oh, before I forget, I also saw the Dodge Dakota 5.9 R/T while they sound testing the Viper SRT-10 on one of those DaimlerChrysler wherehouses.

That reminded me of the racing versions they have of those. Racing tractor-trailers would be a very interesting addition to the GT4 lineup.

Ok I think your getting a bit Truck Crazy there, a Grand Vitara is not a truck either is a Forrester. Your really talking about 4wd/SUV/Utility type vehicles more than 4Wds.

In that case I wouldn't mind seeing a small group of 4wd offroad type vehicles like the following:

Holden Adventura

crewman-cross8-1.jpg

Holden Cross8 Crewman

Holden Crewman

Holden Jack8

Holden HSV Avalanche

Holden One-Tonne Ute

Nice looking Isuzu Bighorn/Trooper (aka. Opel Montery & Acura SLX) there...oops, I mean Holden Jackroo. :D

I tell you. I will grant Holden credit. The Utes are as much of an addition as the Tickford in Gran Turismo 3. Holden is has some better cars than their American counterpart. I mean, if you don't want beastly trucks in the game, have some stylish Holdens. Someone mentioned Lamborghini. To me, no. I know they are trucks, but I don't really think the Lambo LM002 hasn't been perceived as a serious truck (or prove me wrong). Porsche Cayenne would be cool, granted that Porsche and Ferrari are in the house for GT4.

Now, I mentioned vans. I still haven't found one online, but I seen the Yokohama Honda Odyssey in a mag. I know it is basically a van that is slower than it looks, but it would be nice to include it. American vans now... I heard the Caravan did 0-60 in 6 seconds once. If that's true, imagine how many family men would want to haul more than kids or groceries. It can't beat the Espace F1, but it would make a nice challenge.

On the pickup side, the SVT Lighting and Dodge SRT Ram are agile and capable machines. I think they can make for some nice on-road machines. If you are in the Sunday Cup with your daily driver being a truck against five other daily-driver cars, then why not push the truck to the max. If they don't have handling prowess, they do have power most of the time. Yes, even I think horsepower is cool, as long as you're not overly b*tching about your "Honda-killing" motor.

So anyhow, keep on truckin! One last note, a NASCAR truck perhaps? Hell no. A Baja trophy truck from Toyota? With Ivan "Iron Man" Stewart, hell yes!
