Eagle, my best guess would be "Sports ACTIVITY Vehicle. It's mentioned all the time in the BMW X5 and X3 commercials.

What's a SAV?

Sorry to be picky but Grammar rules dictate that you should have used "An" here...

A little known grammar rule that means if you are using an acronym and the first letter sounds as though it begins with a vowel... in this case "ES" then you use An.

As you can see when you say it back to yourself it flows a lot better saying "What's an SAV?" than "What's a SAV?"

Anyways... back on topic...

[rant]I don't really like "SUV"s as I see them pointless and needless in todays society.

Why exactly should you drive something that resembles a truck, eats petrol and drives like a tank when you could replace it with an estate car that it so much better to drive, uses less, petrol, looks better and costs less?!

The people that annoy me the most are the people that buy SUV's for taking one child to school... Just buy a shopping trolley... it'll do the same job twice as fast, twice as comfortable and for half the price.[/rant]

and more to the point - pointless and needless in GranTurismo ! ! !

..and take-up less road space and use a lot less fuel, and anable drivers of regular cars sat behind to be able to see through the rear & front screens and therefore more of the road ahead.

A fellow hater of SUV's then!!

Excellent!

Lets start a petition to ban them from our roads!!

Banning them from GT4 will be a step in the right direction!

^ c'mon we need them in for several reasons.
1) we need to broaden the market base for GT... soccer moms should be able to drive their durango's in the virtual format, besides it'd be a lot safer if they learned to park them in GT than ramming in everything in site in the real world
2) we need the gangsta wannabe's drooling to bling up their navigators with big rims so we can bait them into racing our tuned on steriods little Spoon Civic Type R's and watch them cry as we blow their doors off.

Interesting rationale.

Thanks for the grammar lesson that I'll never remember or care about 👍 I work off the premise if there's a vowel starting the word, it gets a 'n', I wasn't aware this was like French with silent vowels. SAV to me shouldn't get one, but who cares.

Screw SUVs.

McLaren'sAngel said something like this: "GO HEMI ENGINES!!!" Well, don't forget that it would make wonderful assets to include the Viper-powered Dodge Ram SRT-10. But the answer to the question "that thing got a Hemi?" would be... "hell no! It's got a better motor, though." The Dodge Viper. So dangerous, there should be a warning label that says "beware of snake. Will bite and inject venom into its prey."

To go a different route on this topic, let me say this. I mean, never mind that the Silverado, Lighting, and Ram are heavier than some luxury cars. Forget that some anti-muscle car people consider them more of tanks, only heavier. I think if a few trucks have a shot at getting into GT4, it would have to be the Silverado SS and SRT-10 Ram. I'm not sure, but the respective trucks have Corvette and Viper engines. Both the Corvette and Viper are revered more as pure American sportscars no matter what people daresay. To say these performance trucks don't belong in a game that's looking for more than cars would be a bit of a crime. As much as Utes are popular in Australia (I'm not knocking Utes. I love them), we have our own performance trucks here in the States. If you want to stir the pot, bring on the Toyota Tacoma, Toyota Tundra, Nissan Titan. Personally, I'd love to see the Toyota Tacoma from Pikes Peak. Even though it beat the Suzuki Escudo back in 1999, the Pikes Peak Tacoma is one bad ass machine! When I seen it race Goodwood, I was blown away. Saying stuff like "damn!" "Holy crap!" "Good grief!" It cleared a lap there in less than 50 seconds. If it could do that at Tsukuba, Rod Millen would be a bigger name to fear than any other. As far as trucks go, it would also be nice to look into Dakar machinery. Trucks do more than haul, kids. I say bring them on!

Yes lets have trucks in GT4 - but only to tow proper cars to the circuits!

Well, there could be something like Craftsman truck series trucks, if there is to be on-road truck stuff. Besides, if there can be Prius races, why not SUVs?

Still, I'd most like to see Baja trucks.

The Craftsman trucks arn't trucks at all - they are purpose built race cars with a truck 'style' fibre-glass body - unless i am very much mistaken.

Lets leave the trucks in the dirt where they belong - there are enough bad or uninspiring handling motors in GT as it is.

That's why I say only Aussie utes should be included as they are solely based on a standard sedan or car. They basically handle like normal sedans with a loose feeling in the back end. But this means the Chevy SSR which is in GT4 is to me a similar design to our aussie utes so why not. For the bigger "trucks" as you americans call them 4x4 Evo 1 and 2 is probably your best bet and hopefully if they make a 3rd game they could maybe try including a similar number of trucks as GT has cars. Also I see no reason why SUV's can't be included as GT4 already has the Scion Xb and Nissan Cube which are kinda more like vans so why not.

We don't need NASCARs disguised as pickups... in Gran Turismo you actually have to make several right hand turns, besides exitting the pit, so they wouldn't work anyway :sly:

now Baja trucks for Rallying... now we're talking!

Although they do a pretty good job at Sears Point

But in recent times, NASCAR Trucks (as well as Busch) wussed out from road courses. Hell, I can remember Busch going to Lime Rock and stuff. NASCAR trucks raced pretty damn good course- Heartland Park Topeka. When I played that track in NASCAR Racing 1999 Edition, that track was tough. But NASCAR feels that in order to keep ratings up, they have to stay on ovals. I'll talk more about NASCAR going to Infineon Raceway (Sears Point) in a future topic.

Anyhow, if you can't have trucks road racing, then rallying is a wonderful consideration. I mean, what if you can take on an Impreza Rally Car against one of Toyota's trophy trucks, or the Nissan that raced Dakar this year? It would be incredible! I do have a fantasy Ford truck that would make an interesting road racer (with tuning). I'll tell you about that one in the future.

And here's maybe one more reason to put them into GT4... Enthusia Professional Racing (which MAY flop) will have SUVs and such. So why not take them over?

Yes, I'm looking forward to driving the Ferrari motorhome.

I score bonus points for finding a legitimate way to turn yet another thread into a "Ferrari should be in GT4" discussion :D

If we are going to include utility vehicles in GT4 - lets have some Lamborgini Tractors as well

How about a JCB?

- i suppose we already have a truck-engined car in GT - the Viper - nice to look at - crappy interior - engine sound, in reality, is so dissapointing

Last I heard a viper in the "flesh" (at Castle Coombe) it was so bassy it made the ground tremor...

I thought that it was amazing!!

I suppose that was a racing version? - i heared a couple of road going ones driving in the paddock at silverstone a few weeks back - they are no TVR when it comes to tick-over rumble!

Not sure... It was doing a slow parade around the track with all the other cars...

I suspect that it was only doing about 2-3k revs... which was probably what made it so beefy...

I was overtaken by a DB9 in Coventry the other day!!! Now that sounded mega sweet... It was cruising past us then dropped the hammer and the revs rose like a dog barking and then it was gone!!

At the same Silverstone meeting i was at, there was a Ferrari owners club stand, with amongst others, an Enzo and two F40's - one of them modified by Michelotto. I was walking past at the end of the day when the drivers got in to drive off home or to their hotels, so stopped to have a listen, again they sounded very diappointing at lowish revs, a lot of mechanical and electrical noises from the Enzo, and typical 'flat-plain' crank sounds from the F40's (the michlotto's sounded a little better with its moded exhaust)

What about this beast. It's a burnout/demo truck. It has two V8s, two superchargers and four turbos. No, the flames aren't coming from the engine. The driver can press a button to spray fuel onto the exhaust and this is what it looks like.

About the Dodge Viper... I'll admit. I like this car, but the inside is pretty dull looking. Especially the ones in the 1990s. I don't know if this decade's Viper is any better or not.

No, no Viper discussion. This is about trucks in GT4 and the possiblity of them in it. That SSR would be very interesting to have in GT4. Maybe a Ford Willys from 1932 would be nice as well. Maybe even the red Ford truck in the classic "Sanford and Son" series would be nice.

I was just suggesting the Craftsman trucks as an example. I, myself, despise oval racing. That's why I want Baja trucks.

Although, what would be really fun, are some mudding trucks. It'd be cool, in a very redneck way, to go spashing through murky lakes and mudpits in a jacked up bronco! (Or maybe I've been watching too much Trucks! on Spike TV! :D)

This is an argument i've seen all the way back to the GTF.

The fact is, if you think trucks are bad for racing, you haven't got your facts straight.

I think they should add the Ford duelie diesel trucks. Those things can move.

The only Chevy i will accept would be the Syclone (Or Cyclone? Whatever.). The rest suck, i think.

I think this is John's shortest post ever! :sly:

SSR is in ... wouldn't be surprised if we see the cyclone or lightning SVT... i think with the other minivans and suvs seen at test days we'll probably get a handful included in the 500+ cars.
