I like it when if you crash you can keep your foot on the brake so that your car goes automatically into reverse - can this be done in GT5P as I'm finding it slow to press the reverse button on the wheel?

No. What car goes backwards if you keep your foot on the brake. How do you brake if your car goes backwards with your foot on the brake?

I hate that in a game.

well as soon as you take your foot off the brake (when reversing the car would stop or as soon as you press the accelerator.

I see what you mean though about it being un realistic but sometimes when i need reverse and I'm playing at night in a dark room it takes me some time to find the triangle button on my steering wheel especially if the wheel isn't at the straight ahead position.

thanks for the prompt response though mate.👍

If you need to use reverse during a race, then your race is over and any further time lost trying to find triangle isn't really going to make any difference.

I'd prefer it if it was possible to downshift when in first gear to pick reverse. I really hate having to let go of the wheel.

Besides that, you can remap the reverse button to something easier to find in the options menu. Personally I'd much prefer to go down another gear from 1st into reverse but as daan said, whatever the reverse button is, you race is probably over if you find yourself having to use it.

It would appear that you have a great mind. :).

Auto Modellista used such a system. And while Daan's poins is valid on the fact your race is already over it's a small annoyance to have to shift down all the way through the gears to get to reverse. It's not like a H-shifter when 5-1 can be skipped.

NO,NO, NO!!!

GT5:P is supposed to be a simulation, not an arcade racer. I'm am perplexed though, as to why PD have not given us the option to have reverse on the gear shifts. Maybe they will sort it for GT5, then again pigs might fly!

Pushing a button to get reverse is how sequential gearboxes get reverse and, unless you're using a G25's H shifter, a sequential gearbox is essentially what you're using.

AFAIK paddle shift gearboxes do not go down through neutral into reverse.

So how exactly do you go into reverse in a real, say, F430 or a GT-R?

Dunno about the new GT-R, but most others use buttons.

Evo on the Gallardo
evo is yet to drive a paddle-shift that really satisfies the way a conventional manual can, but I've been hearing good things about this one. There are two paddles residing behind the steering wheel, one for up, one for down, together with a reverse button on the dash.

The [430's] shift paddles are fixed to the steering column in tried and tested Ferrari tradition (right-hand paddle to change UP and the left to change DOWN) but reverse is now selected by a button on the central tunnel for greater ease of use

Hi everyone.

To me the problem isn't so much the way you enter Reverse.
I just hate the way it feels to keep pressing a button in order to drive backwards.
It's obviously quite ok for someone using a controller, but when using a wheel, it completely kills any sense of realism.

Let the user decide which way he prefers to enter Reverse.
But I think it's a must in a "real driving simulator" to have the speed controlled
by the pedal. Just like in real Cars.

I really don't understand why it isn't set up that way.
Does anyone see a reason i am missing?

I remember one of these Lotus 7 chassis that included a Hayabusa engine had a lever you moved to engage reverse and could actually go through all the gears while in reverse.

Yes, I totally agree. I don't mind pushing a separate button to go into reverse (especially if that's what you do in a real Ferrari :) ), but throttle should still be controlled by the pedal.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but even on cars where you press a button to go into reverse, you still use the pedal to move. You don't hold the button and have little to no control over how fast you were reversing. I think if however they let you engage reverse, using the accelerator to actually ove would be a lot better.

Yes, you push the button in the real car to engage reverse. The throttle and brake are then used to maove and stop the car. At no point have I indicated that you press the real cars button to move backwards.

And to make a further comment on the point Tom made, CVT gearboxes are capable of the same speeds in reverse as they are going forward.

i dont really find it dificult taking my hand off the wheel only needs one hand it can only be a little tiny problem if im using H shifter.Id sugest geting grip with the wheel, I used to suck with the G25 not being able to shift correctly etc or handle the ff

Sorry, I didn't mean to indicate you suggested otherwise. I was simply making sure of the fact having never driven such a car nor questioned the operation of one in this regard.

👍

I suppose that would make sense, thus reducing the chances of accidental shifts to reverse while downshifting with the paddle.

But no, no, no to brake-pedal reversing (usually seen with auto-tranny in arcade games and even other console racing sims).
