Korean car firm Kia is conducting a feasibility study into entering a brace of cars in the British Touring Car Championship next season, according to Motorsport News.
The company says discussions are at a preliminary stage but the plans centre around a two-car team that would commit to the series in a multi-year deal.
A spokeman for Kia Motors said: "We have talked about this. It is something we are looking at to see if the time is right for us to go in this direction.
"We have talked to some of the teams and we have had a chat with the series organisers to check out the viability of this kind of project.
"We're not in detailed negotiations. We look at the viability of activity in this way from time to time."
The firm could run its Rio or the Cerato models should it decide to enter the BTCC series.
