It's. A. Federal. Law.

We're not allowed to have members under the age of 13 without express, signed parental permission. Not. Allowed. To. If we allow people aged under 13 on this site, knowingly, we are breaking a Federal law and all the consequences of that are exactly as you imagine they'd be.

It's called "the Child Online Privacy Protection Act" (or COPPA).

It's rare that we don't find out - but the better question is why these people keep insisting on putting GTPlanet at risk. It's quite selfish.

Forgive me for questioning; but how can you possibly find out if someone is lying about their age? Without them stupidly saying so themselves, that is.
 
That usually covers it. There are other ways that I won't cover (stalking 12 year olds on the internet is generally a Bad Idea), but there's quite the hit rate of people who put in their actual birthdate (as they should) or later mention it on the forums.

No.

COPPA is designed to prevent personal information about under-13s being held by websites. Certain sites are COPPA compliant - by virtue of not retaining any personal information about its visitors. Forums - which hold e-mail addresses and IP addresses as a minimum for registered members - are not. We could permit under 13s on the site as COPPA users, but they must provide us with signed, parental permission and it is a colossal pain in the arse.

And when you tell them no, it's like talking to a brick wall as they just keep on going. Ugh.

I know how you feel, if I do race they tend to lose and start crying about it.

I'll vouch for some of those people. Because it's really annoying when you join a shuffle/race; and the host just does nothing. Doesn't start the race, doesn't move, Doesn't speak. So you're stuck in a dead Free Run lobby.

THEN I will happily start a 'vote-to-kick' rally. :p

Oh yeah, I definitely hate that. You join a room ready to race, and then nothing happens cause of the host.

I have raced with a few kids that I found pretty cool, but others that get booted pretty quick..
 
I have a 10 year old on my Friends list. He cool and not annoying while others that i play with are so annoying and they always start arguements and dont drive good.
 
Am I the oldest here or what? I am going 26 this year. It's the first time I hear read that you have been asked how old you are when playing a game online... Are those people looking for a date or what? :lol:
 
GTRufus, you are not the oldest. I got ya. I also tend to run online with a group of guys double your age (I take the "kid" ribbing a lot).
