killzone was actually made on the dev kits

This has already been mentioned in the gamers info thread. Check in there to find out why thats missleading.

That doesn't mean the PS3 CAN'T do that at 30-60FPS, hell we saw just as impressive stuff being done in real time in the Sony conference.

Don't count on it, every console has it's limits, as thoes get pushed, the FPS may drop, also they may drop when the dev's are getting used to optomising the code for the PS3. I'm not saying it will run at 30FPS, I actually said it doesn't mean the PS3 can't run the demo at that. Set you're sights lower and avoid dissapointment.

5fps... weak.
Nice way to trick people.

Well, it's certainly better than "CGI", ain't it? Fact is, that dev kit was rendering each frame of that video at 1280x720 in 0.2 seconds. Which is several thousand times faster than it could have been rendered in a standard CGI package. That's nothing to sneeze at.

We also don't know where the bottleneck is.. we don't know WHY it was running so slow. Whatever's causing it will probably be gone in the final PS3 hardware, and the code will be far more optimized than it is now.

Actually we do know where the bottlenecks are.

Cell Processor of Dev Kits: 2.4 Ghz, 75.% of the final Cell speed.

No RSX, but two 6800, which are extremely different in architecture and power.

The GPU's have extremely limited bandwidth as they are running on PCI Express, which is amazingly slower than the 35Gb/s that the RSX and Cell enjoy.

So they aren't "tricking" anyone, however, with that limited power, you have to improvise to guess for your final product, but given final hardware, these will render loads faster, rather than 5fps. It's a completely realtime trailer, but on limited hardware could not run to it's full potential, so it was sped up.

Well said. I don't think ANYONE outside Sony knows just what the PS3 is capable of just yet. I think we should wait for the TGS for a better indication.

Well, we certainly know where the limitations in the dev kit, but only the programmers at Guerilla know exactly why the game was running that slowly. The memory bandwidth could definitely be a really big bottleneck, though. We'll know as time goes on, as the system and the game get closer to launch. I don't think the game's a launch title anyway, is it?

Not a clue Jedi, newer dev kit's will be released though when the RSX is finished allowing developers to use the PS3 more effectively.

dev kits obviously dont quite reflect the end hardware product. but 5fps is dissapointing. they arent going to get another 55ish fps from the upgraded hardware. but the fact they were able to produce that either way is good news. everyone knows the difference between the 1st gen ps2 games and this latest.

so if they are able to pump these(or close to it) out now, its a good sign.

I'm pretty sure that even two 6800's combined are not capable of 1.8tflops of computing power.

I believe the only crippling factor in the Killzone trailer was the particle effects, and having 25% less processing power, and lacking the muscle of the RSX and the bandwidth required are more than enough to cripple the engine. I have no doubts it will run at a bare minimum of 30fps. I can see 60, but with slowdown when scenes like we have seen come up.
