Knives, Swords, and everything in between.

There are legal definitions, but I usually use my own:

A dagger is just a type of knife. Typically straight and double-edged, but not always. Typically used exclusively for stabbing rather than cutting (so usage is the most obvious difference).

The definition of sword versus knife, I usually do by blade length. Anything up to around a foot is a knife, anything up to around two feet is a short sword, anything bigger is a sword. Like a dagger, a saber is just a kind of sword as far as I'm concerned.

Yeah, so, I recently lost my favorite (box)knife of over 10 years into the toilet bowl? I had nice WWII US Army shark face thing they used to paint on on this knife? Anyway, after that I still needed box knife for work, so I bought this fancier slide out box knife. It went missing within couple of weeks or so. Since then, I've been using this:

I think it's about life-size, actually. Don't laugh, but it's a cheapo($15) Jeep brand Chinese knife. I like it, because I can flick the blade out, making others roll their eyeballs. I do it a lot. :P

I also have Kershaw's really small folding knife. This one's actually really good quality, as if you know about knives, you know how solid of brand they are. I always keep it in my work desk drawer as my back up.

I am in hunt for real pocket knife. My coworker has one like this. I might get something like that. I also want a survival knife, survival axe, and a leatherman tool. Bottomless pit of needs & wants! :dopey:

That Jeep knife looks pretty nice actually. (Minus the word Jeep would be perfect). And not bad for $15. How well does it keeps its edge and how sturdy is its frame? I think I might buy that too. :dopey:

I just open boxes with it, so it's fine for that. Not bad for $15. I'd recommend buying a quality pocket knife though. I bet I'd have to sharpen it all the time, if I actually did real cutting with it. It's one of those cases, "poor people buy things twice". :P What I'm really liking on this Jeep knife though is the pocket clip on the back. I hate the smaller knives moving around in my pocket, but the clip keeps this one secure in upright position, right next to my wallet. :sly:

Ahhh haha I see I see. Seeing as is, I won't be using that knife for heavy duty jobs, but more so collecting them. :sly: Hopefully this week when I have money, I'm gunna ordering my SOG Flash 2. Should be here next week :dopey: Woohoo!

My daily carry: Cold Steel push dagger Safe Maker I. It feels and handles so great, I'm never going to carry an ordinary knife again.

Pic just to get an idea of its size, I do NOT carry it like that.

Daily carry? Like, to the store?

Sorry for my tardiness, I had spray-painted the handles a bit and it was feeling icky, so I left it in the garage to dry and air out before bringing it in.

Death Scissors (see Devil May Cry), about 6 ft tall. Made of Steel Tubes and 12 gauge sheets.

Sorry for the generic pics, I just cba to break out my camera. lol There are other things that I'm interested in, but have yet to get them. These include a replica of the knife from Rambo II. Found this the best knife of the films since I prefer the black on silver contrast.
Also the Atlantean sword from the Conan the Barbarian film would be awesome to have.

I can't believe somebody made a 6ft. scissors.👍

Cold Steel katana is shocking. Aren't real katanas painstakingly forged? Do you guys think Cold Steel katana would be any good? I know they make some nice knives. Been wanting a decent Cold Steel knife since I was a kid, but I'm just now getting around to shopping knives.

Jebus Christ, death scissors! I kinda though by "expect something big" would be something along the lines of Cloud's Bustersword. Lulz.

And Cold Steel katanas are shocking... Let alone the Cold Steel Tanto knives. That company is a god at making high-quality knives/swords.

Cold Steel makes their blades out of stainless steel and they hold up well to normal tameshigiri (practice cutting). I wouldn't touch one but that's because I'm a blade snob. If it's not traditionally made, with proper nakago, yasurime, patina, hamon, boshi, etc., I have no interest.

when it comes to japanese swords there are those interested in them for their cutting ability and those interested in them as works of art. rarely is there cross-over even though the blade is both.

IMO, A sword with function is greater than a sword of pure aesthetics. The beauty of the sword shines from its performance, just like how we dig racing cars though they don't have the same level of beauty as super cars for example.

On the katana(or speedy might refer to them as 日本刀, as I did in Japan), I agree with you two. If I'm gonna buy a sword, I want a fully functional one.

Incorrect.

Swords crafted properly are works of art that also function at the highest level.

You can craft a functioning sword that is a turd to look at.

OK, so is the fact my Katana is by Cold Steel a good or bad thing?

OK, so is the fact my Katana is by Cold Steel a good or bad thing?

It means it's not a real katana.

J/k. it's good if you want to use it just to hang on your wall or cut something. it's bad if you want to claim it is a real katana.

I myself don't prefer katanas, I'm more of a concealed carry type of person... Never know when shiets going down, and ya need something to protect yourself with :dopey:

EDIT : Hizzuuuh!! Got my knife! Will take pictures tomorrow! :D:D:D Plus an unboxing video!

Finally got it! Pics ftw :D

What the heck is it? Looks really cool.... Is this the SOG you mentioned few days ago? What kind of metal is it made out of?

AUS8 seems to be very popular. Does it have the spring mechanism to assist flicking out the blade?

Indeed it does. And yessir, it is a spring assisted. It's (S.A.T.) is SOG's very own Spring Assisted Technology. Meaning they designed the spring assist themselves, and by god I love it.

If you guys wanna look into further details or what it looks like in action, I have a video showing the unboxing and review. As far as I've seen, I'm the first to do an unboxing and review of the tanto version of this knife.

I checked out the video. Its SAT thing's nice. I'd definitely consider it. 👍

Wonderful! It's a very nice knife indeed. Tell me what your opinion on it when you receive it! And be warned, once you flip open the knife, you won't be able to stop closing it and re-opening it:nervous:

I already do this with my cheapo Jeep knife. I rolled at least three sets of eyes at work today. At least! It's just too much fun.

:lol: I hear ya :dopey:. But the spring on this SOG is unbelievable. It's a quick deploy and it locks firmly into place. I just love the sound/feel of the knife when you whip the blade open. 👍
